Outstanding horseman JASON DEAMER has produced
yet another Winner for
DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS Owners when our promising 4yo
SAVABEEL stayer SAVVY CROWN out sprinted and out lasted his rivals to claim a nail-biting victory over 1450m on a Heavy 10 at Muswellbrook on Friday afternoon.
Ridden by Dynamic Dylan Gibbons, the boom apprentice rode his
79th career winner with a well- judged effort aboard
SAVVY CROWN and the use of his 1.5kg claim plus an excellent ride undeniably proved the difference in a tight finish.
SAVVY CROWN won Race 6, the Magic Millions Class 3 Handicap, where he was allotted 60.0kgs and after the claim carried 58.5kgs to defeat SALSA MAN (60.0kgs) by
0.26 length with OAKFIELD TARGET (60.5kgs) finishing a further
0.64 length back in third spot.
Sometimes in racing there can be unexpected results that lift your spirits and for the Owners of SAVVY CROWN today was one of those occasions.
Apart from the love of their horse and their loyalty to him,
SAVVY CROWN was resuming in a race where he was not suited by the conditions. Fortunately,
nobody told SAVVY CROWN he couldn’t win, and our dynamic galloper went out to battle and did his thing, pulling off what to many was
a surprise win.
First-up again, off two lacklustre barrier trials,
SAVVY CROWN had been first-up twice previously, and hadn’t bothered the scorekeeper with two duck eggs – an eleventh at Scone beaten 7.09 length and a 4th at Taree beaten 1.95 length from those assignments.
He is carrying more condition to start the preparation this time round and 1450m without a race start since February 10, was a hard ask.
Then to carry
60.0kgs less the claim against
Class 3 horses with talent, over the
sprint trip also didn’t suit.
Our pre-race intention was to be
conservative and the way the track had been playing all day, you had to be on speed, and be in a race to the outside fence when the field swung into the straight, which was never going to suit
SAVVY CROWN because he hasn’t displayed any gate speed.
Turned out in glamourous condition by
JASON DEAMER and his team from their
Newcastle stable, on looks alone there was a nibble in the betting, with the horse firming from $11 into $8.00.
As the gates crashed back, connections couldn’t believe what we were seeing as Dylan fired
SAVVY CROWN out of the machines and the horse took himself straight over to sit at the girth of the leader, as the field spread out over a dozen lengths.
SAVVY CROWN was fired up and wanting to go faster, and it was a
“cool” ride by Dylan to not fight him too much, but keep in under control, because
SAVVY CROWN had his mouth wide open passing the 800m and was tugging for more rein.
As the field swung to the 600m and started to get onto the home turn, Dylan slipped a little more rein and
SAVVY CROWN cruised up to eyeball the leader and this move gave our horse the perfect track position.
However, at this stage, our connections were accepting that the damage was done and our horse simply must run out of gas on the bog track.
This is where racing can offer up strange results.
To the surprise of the trainer, jockey, connections and most owners, SAVVY CROWN kept digging and digging and digging. He was running on fumes the final 75m, and his big heart and tenacity kicked in, as he refused to yield.
The runner-up SALSA MAN had the best run in transit, and hadn’t spent a penny, then a gap opened and he dived through with 100m to go and he looked likely to claim us, but he simply wasn’t good enough.
This is also where the
advantage of Dylan Gibbons ride kicked-in. Dylan’s balance and poise in the saddle kept our horse going straight and then with 30m to run,
SAVVY CROWN was all out and started to wobble in towards the runner-up. Dylan stopped his hard riding, put away the whip and straightened our horse in two strides, keeping momentum up and stopping SALSA MAN from getting on terms.
Flash! the camera went off and SAVVY CROWN crossed the line 0.26 ahead of the field.
Stable representative Samantha Clenton representing Jason Deamer on track in an interview said:
“It was a slow tempo early and he was a lot further forward than we actually wanted, but it counted, and we got the win on the board, Obviously Savabeel’s love the wet too. Also, thanks to Dynamic Syndications for supporting the stable. They are a great team Jason and Dynamic and they are really getting the results. With this his (Savvy Crown) 4th win from 11 starts and obviously the trip today was short of his best it’s promising.”
Jockey Dylan Gibbons was then interviewed and said:
“The intention was to be back, but he stepped like a sprinter and just tugged me along outside the leader, but that’s just him, he’s a bit awkward going so he wasn’t really going against me as much as it might have looked, and he always travelled terrific. When the sprint went on I thought they might have me here, being first-up looking for further, but it come down to fitness and toughness and that’s what all of Jason Deamer’s possess. That’s what helped him today and made him come out a winner. He will improve out of that and the further the better as he just runs all day.”
So, surprise, surprise, a win that wasn’t expected, certainly it was hoped for – but not expected.
The biggest things we take away from this are:
(a) Our horse has courage and talent
(b) Dylan Gibbons is a terrific young horseman and
(c) Jason Deamer as a trainer is first class.
Jason only has 17 boxes in his stable and most a filled with Dynamic Syndications horses.
Also, a big shout out and thanks to the team that work with Jason as well, because commitment and attention to detail is spot-on.
SAVVY CROWN has taken his career to: 11 Starts: 4 Wins – 1 Second and $63,730.
He won his Maiden over 2012m at Port Macquarie, he won a Class 1 over 1600m at Hawkesbury, a Benchmark 64 over 1850m at Newcastle and now a Class 3 at 1450m.
