On Sunday the 1st of March, the Opening Day of the
2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale was conducted at Oaklands Junction.
Dynamic Syndications Adam and Dean Watt had been pounding the pavements since Wednesday morning, looking for a yearlings from the sale that we and our
vet Dr. Tim Roberts felt would value add to our already very pleasing and ultimately exciting eleven (11) 2020 purchases.
On a day when all key financial year-on-year indicators were significantly up,
Dynamic Syndications allowed experience to guide us, attacking twice in the first hour to secure two brilliant buys.
Often in the first hour it can prove to be successful pickings for commercial buyers if any lot ticks all the boxes because the market watches the sparring between buyers and sellers, as market forces dictate the strength of the sale and a median and average are determined in a slug-fest in the salering.
As our inspections finally played out, we had
83 yearlings on paper reduced to 24 yearlings based upon physically acceptable conformation (type) for us to refer to our vet Dr. Tim Roberts.
Then after Tim read each of these
24 lots x-rays and endoscope evaluations, only 12 survived. There were
8 lots of interest that he passed on Day 1 and
4 lots of interest that he passed on Day 2.
Of those that were removed from our list, some had poor endoscopes (restriction or defects in their throats reducing windflow) whilst others had significant x-ray issues or had previously had surgery which we automatically reject.
From our select dozen, Dynamic Syndications Dean Watt went to work as a Member of the Bloodstock Agents Federation of Australia, to determine each yearling’s correct commercial value.
Then it was a matter of waiting until each lot rolled through the salering.
We purchased:
Lot 6 a Filly by DEEP FIELD x ZARINIA (IRE) for $160,000 +GST and without doubt the way the sale heated up during the day, this was an absolute bargain.
Offered by Collingrove Stud as Agent for KIA ORA Stud, this filly is a nice type and has such a fantastic pedigree behind her, she will have very high residual value upon racetrack retirement.
