Congratulations to the Team of Dynamic Syndications Owners that
Own the lightly raced, and very promising 3
yo gelding TEXCEL (Exceed And Excel ex Timbourina), as our
CIARON MAHER Racing trained galloper, went to the barriers as a
$1.30 hot-pot and
won with ease, as the price suggested, when claiming Race 1 at Goulburn on Friday, the TAB Long May We Play 1600m Maiden Plate.
The horse in the pre-race parade looked like how $1.30 favourite should, such was the magnificent presentation the stable produced
TEXEL into the enclosure. He looked like an
equine Adonis and raced accordingly.
A big shout out to the Ciaron Maher Racing Team at Warwick Farm, led by competent horseman Jack Bruce and all his support staff.

TEXCEL defeated My Rizing Star by
2.23 lengths with Essential Sky finishing 3rd
4.96 lengths away from
TEXCEL.
TEXCEL was facing the starter for his 6th career start and was third-up here for the preparation.
His race record now reads
6 Starts: 1 - 2 - 2 and $40,330 including being
placed twice at Canterbury.
The only time he has missed out was in the big
$250,000 Magic Millions Maiden race, where he had no luck and was looking for further than the 1200m of that event. He was sent for a spell after that race in January.
TEXCEL became the
third Winner the
CIARON MAHER Racing Stables have trained for
Team Dynamic in the
past week, joining

SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE)
TEXCEL resumed over 1100m at Canterbury when an eye-catching 3rd placing, working home strongly over the short course. Then he went to a 1400m race at Hawkesbury and was the best of good things beaten when a nose 2nd to Twice On Sunday, who franked that form by winning again at Kembla on Thursday.
TEXCEL was dropped back here to a country maiden at Goulburn, and it was not a matter of accounting for his peers on ability, but to ensure in a smallish field, that rival jockey tactics of his peers didn’t bring him undone. Leading rider Blaike McDougall was aware of that and gave
TEXCEL the best ride possible and
TEXCEL responded giving Blaike an eased down, armchair ride to victory.
Being a son of the wonderful Stakes Winning racemare
TIMBOURINA, we have always known that once we got
TEXCEL out to a trip at 1600m and further, he would be far better suited than short sprints. Here at Goulburn, he had his first crack at the trip, producing a dominant win.
TIMBOURINA
TIMBOURINA won her races from 1300m out to 2020m. She won the
Gr2 Wakeful Stakes at 2000m and she was runner-up in the
Gr1 Canterbury Guineas 1900m, 3rd in the Gr1 VRC Oaks 2500m and
4th in the Gr1 AJC Derby 2400m.
Whilst
EXCEED AND EXCEL was known to be a speedster whose progeny are effective to 1600m.
Our 3yo
TEXCEL has the
conformational looks of his Dam combined with the
strength of his sire. He has taken a fraction of time to mature into his staying built frame, but he is well above average and surprisingly, he is still learning his racecraft because he still wants to look around and stargaze a bit in his races.
Here in this event,
Blaike McDougall gave him the gun run and it was all over after the first 50m.
Drawing out in barrier 6, the key was to get him out of the barriers evenly, and roll forward to take bad luck out of the equation. As the gates crashed back, the field flew out, and
TEXCEL landed straight onto the lead. This allowed Blaike to roll forward whilst another runner, the $21 chance named At Midnight, pushed up from a lower draw and took control of the fence with
TEXCEL being restrained by Blaike at its girth.
Then at the 1200m, the punter's despised $151 chance Scalper Tim ridden by Billy Owen decided to take off and put speed into the race 3-deep. However, it struggled to work pass
TEXCEL and Blaike grabbed hold of our horse as the field passed the 900m which allowed
TEXCEL to receive the perfect trail in the one out / one back spot in third place.
Passing the 500m Scalper Tim was running on empty, as the field started the turn into the straight. Blaike just angled out off the heels of that runner into the 3 wide running line as the field balanced up.
200m
In two strides,
TEXCEL was going so well that Blaike allowed him to have a little rein and
TEXCEL moved up stylishly to go to the front whilst still under a hold. Passing the 300m, Blaike asked
TEXCEL to accelerate and the horse responded, rapidly putting up a two length break over the pack. Blaike was travelling so well, that at the 150m he was in no danger, widening the gap on the rest of the field.
100m
50m
The eventual runner-up hit the line well from the tail of the field to finish 2.73 lengths ahead of the pack but was never going to get close to
TEXCEL who was going through his gears as if it were a trackwork gallop.
That was easy !
Obviously
TEXCEL with two city placing on his resume, is far better than a Goulburn class maiden and won accordingly, but our BOBS Eligible 3yo was running out of time to claim some bonus monies as that series concludes on 31 July and the racing calendar was limited with options. So, the
Team at Dynamic Syndications were keen to place the horse to advantage, to earn the $12,280 first prize cheque plus grab an extra $5,625 in BOBS Bonus money for his Ownership Team whilst we could.
