3yo Filly NOTIONS (Press Statement / She's Sirius) recorded her
third (3rd) WIN from 7 Starts when proving far too strong for her peers at Goulburn on Friday afternoon.
Trained by
Dynamic father and son combination Richard and William Freedman, and ridden by the
“Wizard From The West” Willie Pike, our Dynamic Team combined for an exciting victory in Race 8 the
DIVALLS EARTHMOVING Benchmark 66 Handicap over 1300m.
As a 3yo filly and a Benchmark 67 rating NOTIONS was asked to carry the steadier of 59.5kgs against the older horses but despite the impost she had too much class for her peers.
Sent out an easing
$3.60 favourite having been as low as $3.10 before the jump,
“Pikey” was given strict instruction to find cover with our filly who is a natural hard going type who seems always to be in a hurry to get to the front.
NOTIONS resumed from a spell at Rosehill two weeks earlier and took control of apprentice Ellen Hennessy who simply couldn’t hold her fierce going mount.
Today was different with
Pikey gaining control of our filly and ensured she showed some manners.
As the field was led out of the parade ring to head to the barriers,
Pikey found out why we wanted to get cover as our filly took control of her rider and as she saw daylight she wanted to bolt her way to the machine.
The camera footage showed the horsemanship skills of
Willie Pike who was able to get
NOTIONS to settle down and he kept her calm behind the barriers.
Standing calmly in the barriers as the gates crashed back,
Pikey was quickly into stride, however we were concerned about being trapped 3 deep but as long as we had cover and a horse to follow that would be fine.
After 200m
NOTIONS had settled 3 deep in fifth spot and our rider was restraining our filly. Then a couple of riders from wide on the track came across and
Pikey had manufactured the perfect spot in transit, one pair back 3 deep but with cover.
NOTIONS appreciated this and the Dynamic Duo stayed in this position until turning into the straight.
NOTIONS was angled out from the horses in front to wider than the middle and pushed their way clear to give chase with 200m to run.
Spotting the leaders 3 lengths, and despite carrying the heavy weight,
NOTIONS began to respond to
Pikey and the class prevailed as our filly rattled home hitting the front with 50m to run and went on to victory under a soft hold to record a 0.75 length margin over the dead-heating pair My Snow Queen and Green Reign. The track had been downgraded to a Soft 7 and she ran a time of 1:20.80 with a Last 600m: 0:36.85
Pikey reported to
Will Freedman and the owners present –
“she was really good, once I had cover, she travelled really good, once I got out she was strong on the line and strong right through the line.”
Winning here today, she picked up $12,280 plus a BOBS Bonus.
NOTIONS has taken her career record to 7 Starts: 3 Wins and 1 Second and $70,015 in earnings.
