Congratulations to our
Owners of
Dynamic Debutant FRECKLE ROCK (Fastnet Rock x Freckle Face) on your horse’s
sensational 3.06 length debut win at Scone Race Club on Monday afternoon.
FRECKLE ROCK (57.5kgs) trained by
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace for
Team Dynamic and our
tremendous Ownership Team, was simply
“far too good” for his peers when
winning Race 3, the SARDOS COFFEE Maiden Plate over 1400m.
Ridden a
pearler by our
top team player CHRISTIAN REITH, FRECKLE ROCK stopped the clock in a very slick 1:22.53 rattling home 34.27 secs.
Sent to Scone just to have a day out and finish off his education experience, before heading off for a short break, before targeting some nice races later on, we knew from the time that our breaker
Shane Rose at Bimbadeen Park finished
FRECKLE ROCK’s education, our horse was well above average but just needed a little time to mature.
Then as soon as he went through the tutelage system with the
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace Team and then they threw a saddle on his back in a barrier trial, we believed our horse would prove to be exciting when he went to the races, but immaturity and wanting a trip would see him only have only the one start this preparation.
The plan was to give him a couple of barrier trials and then a
softer, confidence building race that he could win before easing up on our promising middle-distance galloper.
A $190,000 Magic Millions purchase offered by Coolmore Stud (As Agent for Clairden Racing: Dr Denis O’Brien and Mrs Claire O’Brien), he was a raw, angular type of yearling that we believed with time would develop nicely.
He has continued to go the right way and furnish into his lovely big frame and is now,
a magnificent looking individual (
especially for a Fastnet Rock) and the way he lengthened stride down the long Scone straight, gives us a terrific guide to what the future may hold.
A dual acceptor holding entries at Canberra on Sunday and Scone on Monday, once we reviewed both fields and knowing we had the luxury of the magnificent surface of Scone, the decision was made to head that way. Christian Reith was booked for both assignments and was happy to go wherever the horse went.
As per our anticipated race tactics, the race panned out beautifully.
The speed map had one horse named Inducement ($3.30 fav) go forward and lead, whilst we thought we could position up on speed. We wanted to be positive and go hard from the barriers to cross the field and then, if Inducement wanted the front, he would have to work double-time to cross us.
That’s exactly how the race unfolded. We jumped out disputing the lead and after 100m, Inducement put the after burners on and sprinted hard to cross, whilst Christian just pushed up a bit, making Inducement work hard before it could cross us and in the process, it peeled of a 10.37 sectional from the 1200m to the 1000m.
Christian allowed
FRECKLE ROCK to balance and get in a rhythm, sitting one off the fence, tracking the leader by 2 lengths, as the field ran out of the back straight and down the side before pushing up as they ran past the 600m mark.
As the field swung into the home straight,
FRECKLE ROCK was eyeballing Inducement whilst Tough Case having tracked up behind
FRECKLE ROCK, eased out at the 300m to give chase.
Patience is a virtue and Christian showed his class, when with a lap full of horse underneath him, he waited until the 250m point before pushing the
“go button” and our debutant blasted away from those chasing him, putting up a one length, then two lengths, then three lengths gap, to have the luxury to be eased down at his first competitive assignment and still record a 3.06 length margin over runner-up Inducement (57.0kgs) with Blue Velvet (57.0kgs) working into 3rd beaten 3.33 lengths with Tough Case (59.0kgs) 3.66 lengths in fourth.
What a fantastic effort by our horse whom is destined to be running in much stronger grades when he comes back next preparation.
After his second trial,
Nash Rawiller gave us the
vital feedback that, if we placed him on a big, and importantly a dry track, over 7 furlongs on debut at provincial level, he would be very hard to beat.
So, with that knowledge we looked for an easier assignment to ensure the horse and owners gained confidence.
Job Done!
