BOOM ! Superb Dynamic Syndications 4yo mare AFRICAN DAISY resumed from a spell on Monday at Scone and starting a $2.25 favourite our ANNABEL NEASHAM trained mare proved a class above her rivals in winning in a slick time of 1:22.57 over the 1400m trip.
AFRICAN DAISY competed in Race 4, the “INGLIS, WHERE WILL YOU BE IN 2023” CLASS 3 1400m Handicap.
On weights and measures our Dynamic mare may have appeared to be in this race upside down.
She had been allotted 59.5kgs Top Weight in this Class 3 event, yet she was only a Class 1 mare herself.
She had to give the runner-up Ella Te Ama a Class 2 mare a 3.5kgs weight pull, and Sian, who ran third who was a Class 3 5yo gelding carried just 56.5kgs.
It’s a big effort to give weight to males, be a Class 1 horse and give weight to Class 2 and Class 3 horses, lump top weight first up from a spell, and give her peers a cold as she whizzed by.
However, there is no substitute for quality and AFRICAN DAISY has come back bigger and stronger after her break. Being by this Champion racehorse and sire AMERICAN PHAROAH (USA) out of a Stakes Winning mare CIGUARAYA (USA) she is now at her right age to show her true ability.
This race was more about foundation laying and confidence building than anything else.
We had her in a Class 1 at Wyong on Saturday but elected to go to Scone because it was a larger track with a long run home, and we felt that this would be the final building block for the preparation ahead.
The stable were confident that she would run well based upon her trackwork, and we were confident that despite being only a Class 1 and giving away weight to her male peers, she was still in the right race based upon her previous formlines and also she was a mare on the improve.
It’s nice when a plan comes off.
A happy jet pilot Andrew Adkins
Our jet pilot Andrew Adkins drove to Scone from Sydney to just ride her and he pulled off a pearl.
Jumping away cleanly as the gates flung back, our mare was full of running, sitting second in the early stages and the first 200m before Andrew took hold and checked out of the speed battle upfront, to sit two lengths back off a 3 wide line in front that peeled off two very fast sectionals.
As the speed started to settle when the field swung out of the back straight and down the side, passing the 800m, Andrew had bided his time stalking the speed, and was just watching things unfold. Then at the 700m, he improved a length and was in the one/one spot as the field thundered around the home turn and balanced for the run home.
AFRICAN DAISY moved up to eyeball the leaders at the 300m, and Andrew hadn’t let the brakes off. With the opposition under strong urgings, Andrew displayed his horsemanship skills and waited by counting to 10 before asking for an effort at the 200m.
African Daisy bounded away with such authority that after just two urgings Andrew was able to settle back into his lounge chair ride and coast to the post without ever being in danger.
As the camera flashed, AFRICAN DAISY posted a 0.76 length eased down win over Ella Te Ama with Sian 2.35 lengths back in third spot in the field of 11 runners.
