Dynamic Syndications Melbourne Premier Sale purchase AUSSIE PHAROAH (3yo Geld American Pharoah ex Lisson Grove) franked his excellent recent form with a dominant win to break his maiden at Dubbo over 1618m on Monday.
AUSSIE PHAROAH won Race 1, the MARK HUGHES FOUNDATION RACE DAY – SUNDAY 13 AUGUST Maiden Handicap 1618m.
Carrying Top Weight of 59.0kgs and giving weight away to all his peers, jockey Aaron Bullock rode a well-judged race on AUSSIE PHAROAH ($1.90) to claim victory by 0.83 length over Subscribe Me and Aero Nautica in third.
His career now reads: 6 Starts: 1 x Win – 1 x 2nd – 1 x 3rd – 2 x 4ths and $30,275.
He picked up $19,575 for this victory, being $13,950 first prize plus $5,625 in BOBS Bonus monies.
Bred to be at his best out to 2000m, AUSSIE PHAROAH has had a terrific preparation and was now out to a suitable distance.
He ran 4th by 2.44 Len over 1200m first up from a spell on 25 May, then was 3rd by 1.34 Len over 1300m on 9 June. Then out to 1600m on 18 June he was 2nd by 0.46 length, before forced back in trip to 1500m by an unfavourable racing calendar when 3.09 Len 4th on 2 July. Back out to a 1618m distance here, a trip he finds far more suitable, he never let his supporters down, as he raced away for a nice win on a Soft 7 surface.
The race turned out well for AUSSIE PHAROAH, his owners, and connections when the speed map lived up to expectation.
We had wanted to be positive and lead or trail the leader, which we expected Aero Nautica would jump and run and we would trail it into the straight and sweep past it.
As the gates crashed back, AUSSIE PHAROAH was well away but as expected, Aero Nautica took off and raced 6 lengths in front.
Aaron quickly summed up that runner was going too hard and let in run, allowing AUSSIE PHAROAH to settle into a rhythm in second spot on the outside of Bertie as they passed the 1200m marker.
As they came down the side of the course, the leader had shot way out in front, and Aaron asked AUSSIE PHAROAH to go after the tearaway leader and give chase, reeling in the big margin.
As the field swung into the home straight with 420m to run, the leader was full of running with a 6-length lead, but the early work was going to tell.
Despite us carrying top weight of 59.0kgs and spotting the leader 3.0kgs Aaron asked AUSSIE PHAROAH to respond and our 3yo answered. Stride by stride he ate into the big margin.
At the furlong, AUSSIE PHAROAH had reduced the margin to one length and was full of running down the outside.
He collared the leader at the 100m marker and stride by stride increased the margin.
When the camera flashed, he had drawn almost a length clear of his peers.
Aaron Bullock returned to scale and said to trainer Mack Griffith
“Yeah good win Mack! He began well as he always does, and I just got him straight into his rhythm. And at the mile, I just needed to put him to sleep for the first three-quarters of the race, and I just kept building from the 600m. It’s not ideal when there is a tearaway leader and you have got to bring the field up, but he enjoyed a bunny to chase, because as soon as he hit the front, he just pricked his ears late, so I am glad we had a bunny. He had to cart the field up, but it was too his liking having something to chase, so good signs as we step him out if we can get him there, because he is clean winded, and at the 8 furlongs he was much more genuine, and it was a good win.”
