Dynamic DAMBULLA Records Number 51 as our Half to WHOBEGOTYOU Breaks Maiden

Royally bred DAMBULLA (3yo g Fastnet Rock x Temple Of Peace) is a 1/2 brother to Champion Australian 3yo and dual Gr1 Winner WHOBEGOTYOU - a true cult hero and it appears DAMBULLA may have inherited genuine potential as a middle-distance racing prospect, after cruising to victory in Race 1, the Grange Hotel Maiden Plate over 1600m at Gosford on Thursday.

Facing the starter for just his second career start off an impressive debut run, finishing runner-up at Hawkesbury over 1500m a fortnight earlier, the Dynamic Syndications powerhouse galloper looked a treat for the CIARON MAHER / DAVID EUSTACE stable and raced accordingly, under the control of jet pilot Blake Shinn.

DAMBULLA Racing Career 2 Starts: 1 Win – 1 Second and $29,515

Starting a $2.00 favourite, Blake had to guide DAMBULLA over from the outside gate to gain a forward position. Initially caught wide when competitor Nodeel (Jason Collett) rode a deliberately wide course into the first turn and then, Dominica Rose (Christian Reith) tried to push up to keep DAMBULLA deep, the coolness of Blake Shinn kicked into gear and once that battle relented, Blake took DAMBULLA across from 3-4 deep to go forward and sit at the girth of the leader, which was the $31 pop Nodeel.

Blake then allowed DAMBULLA to settle into his rhythm as they ran down the back straight and around the top turn. Upping the ante as the field passed the 500m mark, on the point of the home turn Blake had DAMBULLA full of running.

The second favourite who had a 4.0kg pull in the weights and off an easy mid-field run, briefly raised hopes of its supporters at the 300m but its rally was short lived as DAMBULLA, ridden hands and heels, coasted to the post and the further they ran, the better it was for DAMBULLA as he posted a 1.2 length Win over Zenardini with Not A Biggie a further 2.97 lengths away in third.

Returning to the winner’s stall, Blake Shinn was interviewed on TV where he said:

“He’s a nice horse on the rise.

“He’s a progressive horse, he’s obviously a staying type and he’s got an action like he’s going to get over a lot further.

“He improved obviously from his first run and over a little bit further today and I can just see him developing further with racing. He’s going to get over further and he’s going to keep getting better.

“He wanted to baulk at the winning post, he changed his lead (leg) at the 150m mark but he was uncomfortable getting around the tight Gosford track, so a bigger track would suit him. He was wanting to get away from winning post all the way up the straight but ….. nice horse – he’s going to keep getting better and he got the job done today.”

This was yet another Dynamic Syndications winner - taking our overall tally to 210 Individual Winners from 225 Individual Runners = 93.3%.

DAMBULLA recorded our 51st Race Win for the 2018-19 Racing Season and our 593rd Race Win since our first runner was a winner on the 22nd October 2005.

Dynamic Syndications purchased DAMBULLA for $150,000 NZD at the NZ Bloodstock sales in 2017.

Offered as a yearling by Hallmark Stud (As Agent), originally he had been a $400,000 weanling pinhook purchase by James Harron Bloodstock at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale but by the time the NZ Bloodstock Yearling Sales rolled around 6 months later, the colt had gone through an awkward, gangly growth spurt and he looked “all legs and belly” but the timber (bone) was there.

Dynamic Syndications took the view that he would develop nicely into an athletic middle-distance with a bit of time and on his pedigree, he was a 2400m type. After all – he’s a half-brother to WHOBEGOTYOU - a winner of 10 races and his Dam – Temple Of Peace won 3 races in France from 2000m to 2900m and was stakes-placed.

However to buy him for $150,000 represented a massive loss to the pinhook buyer of $250,000.

Good middle-distance horses can be very lucrative so it fantastic that DAMBULLA came out today and won the way he did. Ciaron Maher Racing have done a wonderful job with him and the future looks bright as the horse continues to learn racecraft and develop with maturity.
