The
“brilliant speed” of
Dynamic Syndications YAO DASH was again on display when the perfect plan paid off in a big way, as
“NASH and DASH got the Magic Millions CASH” with a
dominant display to
WIN the
$250,000 2021 Magic Millions Rising Star Class 4 Plate Colts and Geldings division for 3yo’s and 4yo’s over 1300m, on Day 1 of the Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast, and picked up a cheque of
$146,500 to the winner.
YAO DASH (Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott) ridden by Nash Rawiller 56.0kgs ($2.40 Fav) defeated RUCCA 57.5kg ($16) by 2 lengths with MARSANNAY 54.5kg ($12) 2.3 lengths third and THE ASTROLOGIST 59.0kg ($4) beaten 2.4 lengths into fourth.
Follow the leader ! YAO DASH leads them home in the Magic Millions Rising Stars !
None of Yao Dash’s rivals could match his superb acceleration over the final 200m.
Airborne ! Yao Dash is certainly light on his feet as he glides to an easy win
To give additional merit to the run,
YAO DASH on a Soft 5 surface, recorded an eased down time of race time of: 1:16.47 which was 0.69 sec faster than the Fillies Division the race prior which equates to approximately a 4.8 lengths superior margin.
YAO DASH is a 4yo Brown Gelding by SMART MISSILE from RAHY STORM (USA).
Yao Dash has a rare ability in the fact that he can change gears on demand and does so with authority.
This was a major factor to
Yao Dash being able to claim his third win of his nine-race career in the Magic Millions Rising Star.
Halfway up the straight, with seven runners spread across the track, to racing fans it was appearing to develop into a blanket finish, but once Nash Rawiller extracted our horse off the heels of those in front of him and asked
Yao Dash to go, the son of Smart Missile quickly crushed his peers, sizzling home in ultra-impressive fashion.
Yao Dash had put the writing on the wall when 0.7 length runner-up at his previous start in the Wyong Magic Millions 1200m 3yo and 4yo Stakes to Eleven Eleven, which he met poorly at the weights that day, under the Set Weights conditions and he franked this strong form by bolting clear to win by two lengths here on the Gold Coast.
Yao Dash was just a modest
$90,000 Magic Millions purchase for
Dynamic Syndications from the
Newhaven Park draft and has given his owners a great result winning three of nine starts.
His Race Career is now 9 Starts: 3 Wins: 1 Second: 0 Thirds: 2 Fourths & Prizemoney: $345,275
Yao Dash (Smart Missile) may now be ready to fulfill the potential he showed as a younger horse after a dominant display on the Gold Coast to claim the Magic Millions Rising Stars title in the male division. Jockey Nash Rawiller kept the leaders within his sights and when he pressed the button
Yao Dash lengthened stride stylishly to breeze on by and had 2 lengths on Rucca (Rubick) with the winner’s stablemate Marsannay (Snitzel) third.
Rawiller had been aboard
Yao Dash in his previous victories and said it was pleasing to see the horse show his true ability.
YAO DASH had struggled to regain form in his second preparation as a minor injury held him back and the horse developed a tag of being an enigma. However, he has been a headstrong individual.
He has plenty of natural talent but wants to get the race over and done with, so holding him up has been a challenge because he resented it.
This preparation has been totally aimed at Winning this Magic Millions Rising Star event and we achieved our goal.
To help him do this, it has been almost military precision battle-plan because we have been forced to keep him at the sprint trips when we truly believe he is a miler in waiting.
To keep him on the fresh side and to ensure we had the correct foundation to keep the sprint in his legs, we mapped out an audacious plan.
We chose to send him to Melbourne for his first up assignment on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington where he ran a close up fourth in the MSS Security Sprint LR over 1200m where he finished 2 lengths from the winner EXHILARATES but just couldn’t match the speed horses over the final 100m.
We kept him in Melbourne and ran him on the 21st November over 1400m second-up where he raced a touch flat that day beaten 2.3 lengths into fourth, however this was a much needed and vital stepping stone for fitness and progression.
The battle for the expert trainers was to keep him fresh enough to have him peaking into a 1300m event on the 9th January.
It was always our intention to then bring him back to Sydney and give him a few easy days to freshen-up and get over the trip to Melbourne and then, aim at the Wyong Magic Millions 3 and 4yo 1200m event run under set weights on the 16th December.
As a Benchmark 80 horse we met the promising Eleven Eleven and the speedy Spaceboy that day who were both Benchmark 87 rated horses at set weight of 59.0kgs where our true handicap weight would have been 55.5kgs against both those horses. We only finished 0.7 lengths off Eleven Eleven and beat home Spaceboy who was third by 1.5 lengths.
Eleven Eleven and Spaceboy franked that form by coming out at their next start and both running in the Christmas Classic on the 1st January, a 1200m sprint where Eleven Eleven only carried 54.0kgs and won whilst Spaceboy carried just 53.0kgs was a close 1.2 lengths 4th.
Importantly, for us this Wyong Magic Millions event was over 1200m and we have always believed that despite being a headstrong horse, he would be a far better horse wearing blinkers to help him concentrate. Wyong gave Gai and Adrian the chance to employ the gear change and the feedback from that run was all positive.
Gai and Adrian then had the time to give him a few easy days after this run at Wyong, before putting him on the truck to Brisbane.
He has been up at Eagle Farm where he was able to do an exhibition gallop last Saturday between races where Nash was able to give him a squirt along.
This proved decisive, because Nash reported to us, he felt
Yao Dash was a little flat and tired after the trip north and the gallop had been harder on him than anticipated. The wisdom of Waterhouse kicked in and Gai and Adrian backed off him in the week lead-up to the race, to keep the sprint in his legs and stop him from wanting the mile (1600m).
So, we arrived at the races on Day 1 to aim at our target race with the right foundation fitness but the luxury of being kept fresh and an increase in distance to 1300m. The conditions of the race being a Class 4 Set Weights Plate meant that
Yao Dash despite his high Benchmark rating was still a Class 2 and was thrown in carrying 56.0kgs and he had the blinkers on.
Tactically we had devised a plan to be positive but not lead in a race that showed good speed on paper. Because we knew he would relish the 1300m we didn’t want him over racing early and just be patient and as close as possible under restraint until the 250m when the go button was to be pushed.
The race panned out perfectly and the result was an annihilation of his peers.
No wonder he was sensationally backed around Australia as Form Students and Ratings Experts could see what we had achieved to get him there on the day. From
$4.50 in early betting he was backed into
$2.40.
Just cruising! YAO DASH canters to a widening 2 length victory
When the gates crashed back,
Yao Dash was fast away but Nash restrained him and he got into a lovely position one off the fence trailing the leaders. It got a little tight as the field swung out of the back straight to run down the side and then as the field turned into the home straight
Yao Dash was poised a couple of lengths off the leaders with 5 runners at that stage across the track and the race was on in earnest. At the 250m Nash angled to the outside of the horse he was following to give
Yao Dash a clear run and as they passed the 200m mark
Yao Dash was eyeballing the leaders with now seven horses across the track driving to the line.
However,
Yao Dash was just kidding to his competitors and Nash let the brakes off and pushed the go button and he destroyed his rivals to be eased down the last 40m such was the dominance of the victory.
Racecaller Josh Fleming bellowed: “At the 200m its Yao Dash over heels, and YAO DASH ….. YAO DASH has gone crunch, races clear, YAO DASH is brilliant, Rucca is second Marsannay is third in front of The Astrologist…...”
S
ky Channel’s commentator Michael Maxworthy said:
“So YAO DASH is back in a big way, he really dashed quickly in the home straight to beat Rucca and then Marsanny on the outside.
Co-commentator Bernie Cooper chimed in saying: “Yeah
Great Effort and didn’t he show
Dash, just as his name would suggest, the others were sort of battling it out and it was looking like a blanket finish until
YAO DASH has burst through and, Nash was very light on him too, Nash Rawiller didn’t need much effort at all.”
Michael Maxworthy then added: “He had some really good form as an early 3yo around YES YES YES and that crop of really good horses and we were expecting a lot more from him since then, but his runs this time in have been progressive, we saw him gallop between races at Eagle Farm last Saturday, and he has been clearly the superior horse there, there was no way any of the others were going to beat the winner. They were no match for Yao Dash as Nash gets up in those very, very familiar Dynamic Syndications colours.”
Bernie Cooper interviewed co-trainer Adrian Bott and stated: “Adrian, that would put a very big smile on your face, how impressive was YAO DASH!”
Adrian Bott replied: “Yeah he’s always promised to be a very good horse, he only had his third start in a Golden Rose (Gr1), so that showed the opinion of the horse we have always had and the ability of the horse he’s always had. It’s taken a little bit of time to recapture that. He can be a little bit of a thinker at times, and Nash gave him a nice ride today where he was always able to keep him interested, and we thought if he had something to chase today, he would let down strongly and did so, well.”
Bernie Cooper: “He was busting to let down at the furlong wasn’t he!”
Adrian replied: “Yeah we thought that was the key there, we thought if we could get the right run in behind them, we thought it would be a nice bit of speed there, and Nash let the race unfold and it worked into our hands.”
Bernie: And will he back up next week?” (into the $1m Magic Millions Cup 1400m)
Adrian said: “He will certainly.”
Thumbs Up ! as Nash and the DASH return to the Winner's Circle
Bernie Cooper then interviewed Nash and commented: “A superb turn of foot inside the furlong!”
Nash Rawiller responded: “Yeah he’s a nice horse, he always has been, he just, I don’t know, he went through a stage there where he just had no confidence whatsoever, He’s sort of got his mojo back again at the moment, and looks really well and the team up here have done a great job with him.”
Bernie Cooper said: “Its great timing to have your mojo back heading into next weekend.”
Nash replied: “
Yeah I rode him in a gallop last weekend and I said to Gai that I thought he was a touch flat and she said, oh I will give him an easy week then and he’s come out and blown them away today, so it was a good effort by all involved.”
Yao Dash was bred by Newhaven Park and is the first winner for imported Rahy mare Rahy Storm (USA), who was a metropolitan winner in Australia and is closely related to US Gr2 winner Rahy’s Appeal.
It's wonderful when a Plan come off and nobody was riding harder than Dynamic Syndication Adam Watt
