Dynamic Syndications 3yo Filly IT’S A KNOCKOUT (Dundeel x Sport Chic) was a Magic Millions purchase.
We saw our Ciaron Maher trained daughter of Dundeel head to the sport for the first-time on the Randwick Kensington Track on Wednesday.
Thanks to a tremendous piece of horse husbandry, care, and attention to detail by the Ciaron Maher Team, they presented our filly in fabulous order, fit and strong.
Add-in an 11 out of 10 ride by jet pilot Chad Schofield, Team Dynamic and our awesome co-ownership group have been wonderfully rewarded for their patience.
Also, it was an extremely profitable way to kick-off her racing career when winning Race 3, the TAB Handicap, a Super Maiden over 1400m.
Winning this event our filly picked-up a $48,000 first prize cheque, plus our loyal team of owners intend to take the BOBS taking her tally to $59,250 + they will take the Double-Up Vouchers worth another $8,000, to earn $67,250 for her first effort on the track.
Taking on the older mares and the males, she was giving away vital racecraft experience and match fitness which was a big task. Especially as we were not well treated at the handicap being asked to carry 57.0kgs as a debutant against her male peers who were getting-in under the 2.0kgs weight allowance for the females. our filly responded as expected from the way she has been working in training.
She looked an absolute glamour in the parade ring and raced accordingly and was supported in betting from $14 into $9.50 as the field jumped away.
Tactically we would have liked to have held-up and slot-in following something into the race but having drawn awkward in barrier 6 of 7 runners, we wanted to take bad luck out of the equation.
We could see there was a genuine lack of speed in the event and the track was playing to sitting out 3-4 deep in the straight.
Dynamic Syndications Adam Watt advised Chad that we would like to be positive, and if no other rider displays intent to lead, we could take it up and, in that case, peel off steady sectionals and turn it into a sit and sprint affair from the home turn.
Chad Schofield rode the perfect race. Full of confidence heading into this event, having won Race 2 aboard a $201 hope, Chad had the adrenalin pumping.
As the gates crashed back, our filly IT’S A KNOCKOUT was quickly into stride, whilst the stablemate - second favourite Magic Shadow (3yo g 58.0kgs) came out quickly from gate 3, whilst Fangirl’s half-brother Wipeout pushed-up to hold the fence from barrier 1.
Chad quickly summed-up that the early tempo was still only moderate, so after the first furlong, he pushed the button and swept across the face of the field to take up the running heading into the first turn.
When he did that, the first horse to take hold was Magic Shadow (James McDonald) and then Tim Clark on Wipeout allowed Chad to roll to the fence, giving his mount the opportunity to follow IT’S A KNOCKOUT.
That proved a big mistake by both those riders as Chad was able to get IT’S A KNOCKOUT to settle beautifully into a rhythm, where our Dynamic Duo got away with soft sectionals.
Chad was able to lead on his own, a length and a half clear and peeled off very steady fractions, and without being pressured ticked 1200m - 1000m in 11.55 then 1000m to 800m in 12.10 and 800m to 600m in 12.18. Then a 11:88 from 600m to 400m and a 11:59 400m to 200m gave our filly a valuable breather mid-race and achieved our desire to turn the event into a sit and sprint.
Rounding the home turn Chad let the brakes-off and dashed 2 lengths clear, with the three other fancies all giving serious chase.
Passing the 100m our filly was starting to get tired, especially the last 50m, but determination and class rose to the fore. Despite all the negatives that she was giving away as a first start filly in this field, and being poorly treated against the sex allowance, she would not yield.
The pack was chasing and our filly was on fumes, but the early initiative, the perfect ride, and the brilliant condition our filly was presented in, all clicked together, and our filly despite yielding ground late was too strong for her peers and gripped-on for a sterling effort to claim victory by 0.29 length over Wipeout ($4.20, 3yo g. 57.5kgs, Tim Clark) with Magic Shadow (3yo g, 58.0kgs, $3.40, James McDonald) third just ahead of Fakhra (4yo mare 58.5kgs, $3 Fav, Nash Rawiller) 0.52 length fourth.
On a Soft 7 surface IT’S A KNOCKOUT ran a Time: 1:25.65 with a Last 600m off the front of 35.51 making it mathematically very difficult for the chasing brigade who could not answer the challenge.
It has been a difficult road to date for her owners after the filly suffered a bad injury in early training that a lesser horse would have succumbed too and been retired.
However, with excellent veterinary work and horse husbandry and care, our filly has returned the faith put into her by her ownership team.
CONGRATULATIONS to her Dynamic Team of Owners: Dynamic Syndications Racing, Mr S R Freeman, Dawn & Kaz, Mrs K L Harliwich, Mr L Harliwich, Mr P A Craig
