Thoroughbred Industry "Guru" and Magic Millions Owner GERRY HARVEY has purchased a “leg” (25%) in a Colossal COLT to own and race with Team Dynamic.
Yet again, it appears “Uncle Gerry’s” astute business acumen and his "uncanny knack" for achieving racetrack success, has zoned in on a hot target.
OUR New COLT with Gerry Harvey's famous brand on his near shoulder
We have a New Season 2yo COLT that Gerry Harvey bred at his famous BARAMUL STUD which Dynamic Syndications purchased at this year’s MAGIC MILLIONS.
THE PROCESS EVOLVES:
Gerry Harvey had owned a mare named
RATTLED by MORE THAN READY who was magnificently bred.
RATTLED was the
Half-Sister to Gr1 Winner ~
SNOWLAND by Snippets (9 wins -
Gr1 Galaxy;
Gr2 Up & Coming;
Gr2 Todman Slipper Trial)
Also the Half-Sister Gr2 Winner ~
PORTILLO by Red Ransom (3 wins -
Gr2 Surround S.;
Gr2 Magic Night;
LR Gimcrack;
2d
Gr1 Flight S.; 3d
Gr1 Golden Slipper) - She is the Dam of 4 winners inc:
GHISONI by Lonhro (
Gr2 Surround S;
Gr3 Glenlogan Park S.)
And a Half-Sister to LR Winner ~
SNIPPETSON by Snippets (4 wins –
LR Eskimo Prince S;
LR Maurice McCarten S; 2d
Gr2 Challenge S).
Because
RATTLED was so
beautifully bred,
Gerry Harvey paid a Service Fee of $330,000 in 2008 to send
RATTLED to be covered by the
Absolute Champion Sire REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
The result of the mating was a
filly named DARBY’S BID.
Gerry loved the filly he had bred, and decided to
retain her to race by himself. Sadly for Gerry,
DARBY’S BID didn’t make it to the racetrack after a
paddock injury at
Baramul Stud prevented her getting to the sport.
Not to be deterred, Gerry put his
valuable filly DARBY’S BID -
the daughter of the champion sire straight into his elite band of broodmares.
REDOUTE'S CHOICE - CHAMPION SIRE & 3 x Champion Broodmare Sire
Since then,
REDOUTE’S CHOICE has advanced to be Australia’s Champion Broodmare Sire on 3 occasions with last season being his most recent title success.
ADAM WATT - DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS & GERRY HARVEY at the sales
Gerry is a clever horseman and breeder and is a deep thinker about his mating selection. He understands as well as any other top breeder in the country, the
importance of genetics, as well as
conformation of Sire and Dam in the vital sire
selection phase of breeding.
It was here GERRY HARVEY seems to have pulled off yet another masterstroke.
On the 29th October 2019 he sent his mare
DARBY’S BID to
Arrowfield Stud to be mated by
SHALAA their impressive son of
Invincible Spirit. The same sire of
Australia's Champion Sire I AM INVINCIBLE.
SHALAA - excellent young sire standing at Arrowfield Stud
This was the stallions third season at Stud having produced
113 live foals in his first crop and
99 live foals in his second crop. Based on the types of foals
SHALAA was siring, and a
brilliant genetic match of
INVINCIBLE SPIRIT (the sire of SHALAA) over REDOUTE’S CHOICE > DANEHILL line broodmares, the balance looked to be a
near perfect cross for his attractive daughter of
Redoute’s Choice boasting a terrific female pedigree.
Gerry’s instinct here that the cross would work has already been proven correct with
three (3) of SHALAA’s Ten (10) Stakes Winners to date from Danehill line mares.
These include:
SEVEN VEILS ex a daughter of Redoute’s Choice;
SHAQUERO ex a grand-daughter of Redoute’s Choice,
NO SPEAK ALEXANDER ex a Danehill line mare.
Importantly on a genetic rating score, the resultant mating was an A++ 3900%
Geographically in Australia, the rating score was an A++ 4169%
Geographically from the USA, the rating score was an A 461%
Geographically from Europe, the rating score was an A 151%
Whilst the Genetic Quality Rating score was a very high Q7 and 79%.
Whilst this is important in the mating process recipe,
“the proof is in the pudding” and
DARBY’S BID produced a
Colossal COLT.
OUR COLT
Near perfection in every aspect, this colt ticked all the boxes.

Magic Millions 2022 - Lot 902 Shalaa x Darby's Bid Colt (Parade Video) from Dynamic Syndications on Vimeo.
The only issue we found for
Gerry Harvey’s COLT was timing. The
LOT NUMBER he was assigned in the
Magic Millions Catalogue - LOT 902 which is not far from the end of the catalogue on the Saturday night session of the sale. This can be a
graveyard session for many vendors as the professional buyers have had a smorgasbord of selections over the previous 900 lots, over the prior three selling days, and many buyers have fulfilled their orders or quotas for the sale. This can be an area that is patchy due to diminished competition and can offer buyers with money still burning a hole in their pockets, a
tremendous opportunity.
This was the case with
Gerry Harvey’s LOT 902 the BAY COLT by SHALAA ex DARBY’S BID.
We had found him on our
first day of inspections at the complex, and had him fully vetted by our contracted veterinarian
Dr Tim Roberts who gave the colt the
green light as sound of wind and limb.
From the
TEAM DYNAMIC perspective,
we had the colt locked-in on our radar to buy him if he was to fall into our price range.
He passed inspection, was a
tremendous type physically,
perfectly bred genetically, from a
vendor that produced terrific racetrack results with his horses, coming off one of the
best plots of land in the Hunter Valley.
In addition, he would be eligible for the
MAGIC MILLIONS Race SERIES plus he was eligible for the
BOBS and BOBS Extra bonus prizemoney.
Doing our due diligence homework on market valuation, we had valued the colt to $120,000 + one bid to $130,000. As he was such an “Equine Adonis” and his genetics were so good, he was well above average, so we determined the colt worthy of 4-times the conception service fee of $30,000 + GST.
We had locked-in to pay this amount, a ceiling of $120,000.
We then made inquiry of the
Baramul Team as to the
reserve value Gerry had placed on his colt and were advised that
$80,000 was his reserve. This gave us comfort that the horse was fairly priced, and it was just a matter of how much over the reserve we would need to pay up to our ceiling price?
Due to the circumstances of the late lot number, and a sire who was still feeling his way but hadn’t as yet hit the real heights that he has achieved subsequently after the sale date, we were confident we would be in with a show at getting the colt.
We engineered our live bidding to ensure
we landed on the trigger price $80,000 bid to be holding the first live bid in salering combat. We were both thrilled and astonished when our bid wasn’t countered, and the hammer fell at our bid of
$80,000 + GST.
That was a $40,000 (34%) discount to his perceived true value.
Gerry Harvey is a commercial breeder and sells to ensure cashflow across his total crop of yearlings.
When it was
announced that
DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS were the winning buyer, we went around to take some photos of the colt for our website and social media.

Gerry asked whom we were intending to give the colt to be trained.
GERALD RYAN & STERLING ALEXIOU are training our colt from Rosehill
We told him we had
bought the colt specifically for Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou to train for us at Rosehill.
Gerry was delighted with our response and mentioned he would be happy to "buy a leg" (25%) back in the colt to race it with us.
DEAN WATT - GERRY HARVEY - ADAM WATT
We naturally said
“YES” as
Gerry has raced a lot of horses with Dynamic Syndications, and together we have achieved terrific success, and from our point of view,
you can’t get a better endorsement than when Gerry Harvey wants to buy back a sizable portion of a horse he bred and sold.
We asked Gerry if he would be able to "say a few words" to potential new owners to join him in the colt. He responded:
"Shalaa is doing a good job here in Australia at Arrowfield Stud, and his son SHAQUERO won the Magic Millions and the Breeders Plate last year and this colt is bred on the exact same cross and is a good sort.
"Redoute's Choice mares are the best broodmares and it was "stolen" for only $80,000 so you should go in it !
"He’s a beauty and at $80,000 he’s a gift. You can’t go wrong, it’s a wonderful deal." - Gerry Harvey.
Since purchasing this Colt, his sire SHALAA went on to have a great season as a Second Crop Sire in Australia.
He finished as Runner-up by Total Winners with 53/121 (43.8%) to Capitalist 72/184 (39.1%) and he was Fourth by Earnings to Maurice.
To start to this new 2022-23 season, which is just over 3 weeks old, SHALAA has already sired 8 Individual Winners to have him as Equal Leading 3rd Crop Sire and with earnings of $249,148.
Whilst our colt’s co-trainers Gerald & Sterling also had a terrific season in 2021-22, finishing well within the TOP 10 Trainers in NSW. The boys were 8th Overall, 8th in Metro area and 7th at the Provincials.

It appears yet again, GERRY HARVEY has bred himself another, well above average, racing prospect.

Watching the colt develop from a foal to yearling, Gerry knew what had transpired on farm and how the colt had moved like a gazelle across the paddocks, and that’s what the Colt has also shown our main players at Team Dynamic.
Our COLT back to the spelling paddock for 6 weeks at Gooree Park 22 July 22
We have given him a few weeks off in the paddock, and he has a couple of weeks remaining, before returning to work as we have a look at the rich Autumn 2yo races.
We invite you to join with us along with Dynamic GERRY HARVEY and Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou to race a colt bred on a very potent cross for 2yo success.
