The
TAB reacted swiftly to the
superb win of LOVE TAP at Goulburn on Friday afternoon, slashing his pre-market price in the
Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes into $6.00 equal favourite with
Mounga, after another he performed demolition job.
Dynamic Syndications promising 3yo staying prospect is a very exciting individual, and since “everyone loves a grey,” and the fact he is trained by “the people’s trainer” Richard Freedman at Rosehill, LOVE TAP is quickly developing a cult following having accounted for his peers in dominant fashion at each of his 3 race starts to date.
On Friday,
LOVE TAP (3yo gelding by TAPIT (USA) x SMOKEY’S LOVE (USA)) rose up the ranks again, this time to claim race 2, the Rumours and Runways Class 2 1500m Handicap.
LOVE TAP & NASH cruise to victory
As a three year old, he was asked to carry 58.5kgs top weight against the older, experienced horses and under the steering of
jet pilot Nash Rawiller, he was sent out a
$1.07 favourite, and he gave his peers a
galloping lesson with an extremely soft win, posting a
4.35 length winning margin over Hard Reality with Auburn Boy another 0.63 length away in third.
It was more an
exhibition gallop than a race, hence the short quote.
LOVE TAP showed why he is being spoken about by leading ratings men as being capable of claiming the 2020 Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m in 4 week’s time.
Jockey Nash Rawiller has a big opinion of LOVE TAP to such an extent, that
he drove to Goulburn to ride LOVE TAP in what was
LOVE TAP’s final foundation run before stepping up in trip.
This was Nash’s first trip to the Goulburn track, which speaks volumes for his views about our horse.
With
LOVE TAP in the race, there were some sidestep scratchings, bring the field back to just 5 runners and it was not much stronger than trackwork for our horse, as he ticked two more important boxes, being a win on a Good 4 surface and an easy win at 1500m.
LOVE TAP
Nash reported that
LOVE TAP was just a bit unsettled in the barriers before they crashed open which caused him to come out awkwardly, about three-quarters of a length behind the field however he quickly mustered speed to compete for the lead.
Then Adam Hyeronimus aboard the runner-up Hard Reality pushed forward to claim the lead on the fence. That was perfect and Nash just angled off the fence to sit at the girth of Hard Reality until the point of the home turn.
As they straightened, Nash was sitting quietly and slipped
LOVE TAP a little rein and our exciting galloper put two lengths on the field.
With 200m to go and in no danger, Nash gave the horse one reminder to keep him focused on the job and the Dynamic Duo dashed away, widening the gap to an eased down 4.35 lengths on the line.
What was super impressive is the
time they ran.
LOVE TAP was in cruise control throughout yet stopped the clock in
1:28.13 which is a new track record time, and he dashed home in
33.73 secs.
To give clarity to the time, the next race was a Class 3 1000m and was a competitive drive to the finish. In that race they ran
34.08 their last 600m.
Post-race
Adam Watt was able to chat with
Nash Rawiller, where Nash said:
NASH RAWILLER returns successful on LOVE TAP
“He was excellent. He was well behaved in the gates but just before they opened, he started to sit down a little bit, so he came our very awkwardly, but he mustered speed really quick, he travelled in a beautiful rhythm.
“It was a bit of a saunter along the back, I just let him start to quicken up from the three (600m) as I just wanted him to get something out of it, because it was no good coming down here for a canter, and I thought he went super.
“I’m wrapped with the way he felt, he’s getting more professional as he goes on and we are on track to the bigger races ahead.
“I don’t think the 1800m (Gloaming Stakes Gr2) will pose an issue. I have felt the whole way through he’s a 2000m plus horse later on, so I think we have a bit to look forward too.”
Richard Freedman and his team at Freedman Brothers Racing have done a super job with our
Magic Millions purchase and the future looks exciting.
RICHARD FREEDMAN
It’s a Team effort and their staff at Rosehill have been amazing with the care and attention to detail given to LOVE TAP and the horse is always presented looking in amazing condition.
Pre-race having just arrived on course
It was a
hard decision not to race him in the Dulcify on Saturday, where we felt he had a wonderful opportunity however being a gelding, we felt it was important not to put him under unnecessary additional pressure at his third race start against the colts who are desperate to earn black-type for stallion careers.
Especially since this was just a foundation stepping-stone race, and give him confidence with an easier effort to win and importantly, leave petrol in the tank as he progresses up to the
1800m of the Gr2 Gloaming at Rosehill on the 26th September and that will lay the perfect foundation for the
Gr1 2000m Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m on the 10th October.
We also wish to acknowledge and give special mention to industry leading rating expert and friend to Dynamic,
Dan O’Sullivan.
We value Dan’s thoughtful opinions and from our first race start at Nowra, Dan reported to us
LOVE TAP had the figures to be extremely competitive in the Spring Champion.
Then Dan advised that
LOVE TAP’s figures were awesome again when he ran over the 1200m at Goulburn at his second start on a Heavy 9 which he won by 4.28 lengths in a Benchmark 58.
So, we then asked Dan to review the last 15 winners of the Spring Champion and their ratings and how those horses progressed to win the race. The findings were interesting, and we have chosen to learn through history. We decided to race
LOVE TAP at Goulburn again, rather than at Rosehill in the Dulcify which is also over 1500m.
Naturally we were
tempted to race in better class races from the outset however this is a goal we have aimed at for many months.
To be patient and stick to the plan has been hard, knowing his ability, but we know where we are heading and what our aim is and how to get there. Just keep ticking boxes, building fitness and foundation, without placing him under too much pressure early and in that process, looking after his Benchmark Rating.
We have a terrific horse, trained by a top team of trainers, with the best jockey for our horse, who was committed enough to our team, that he agreed to travel to Goulburn to ride him. We employ the services of a terrific form analyst and we mapped out the right programme.
“The Future Belongs To Those Who Plan For It.” Whilst it’s no guarantee of success, if you don’t plan, you’ll never get there!
We won the Spring Champion Stakes with SAVABEEL in 2004.
He had run 2nd to Al Maher in the Gloaming before winning the Spring Champion and we then went to Melbourne to win the Cox Plate and we finished with a 2nd to Plastered in the VRC Derby.
Whatever the future brings, we are confident that
LOVE TAP can measure up to winning some nice middle-distance events in the future.
Winning races is a team effort and we leave nothing to chance by utilising the expertise of leading players to get the right results for our owners.
