The ups and downs of racehorse ownership were on display at Newcastle on Saturday, when Race 1 went to
our promising middle-distance prospect OUR FUN (Dundeel x Funzero) after the 4yo mare scored a
well-deserved victory, taking her report cared to
7 starts: 2 wins, 2 seconds, 1 fourth and claimed she her
second BOBS Bonus when taking her career earnings to
$58,130.
OUR FUN scored with ease in track-record time
Last start at Gosford over 1600m third-up,
OUR FUN had
zero luck when caught in the middle of a 3 way photo finish.
Coming home stronger than the winner and runner-up, there was no doubt she would win however over the concluding stages, the winner on the outside Dancing Rachel (Louise Day 53.0kgs) was laying in narrowing the gap, as the runner-up on the inside Terroir (Jeff Penza) shifted out abruptly checking
OUR FUN (Rory Hutchings 56.0kgs).
The squeeze stopped
OUR FUN in her tracks and Rory couldn’t ride her out the last 20m and we crossed the line in third spot beaten 0.19 length.
Rory lodged a protest but the interference was attributed to Terrior who had run second, so she was elevated into second spot but the winner kept the race at our expense. Oh well,
“that’s racing!”
However, on the roomier Newcastle track there was no likelihood that
OUR FUN would get caught in the same predicament and the mare won with ease.
Race 1 was named the Love Hcp a Benchmark 64 event over 1885m with 9 runners and
OUR FUN was untroubled when winning by 1.51 lengths over French Response with the third placed Bells ‘N’ Bows finishing a further 0.78 length away.
She ran a slick 1:55.96 which is a Track Record for that distance.
In fact - OUR FUN smashed Group 1 Winner FUNSTAR's track record.
FUNSTAR set the previous track record when she won her second of
4 straight wins.
From here she went to Brisbane and won the
Gr2 Roses and then the
Gr1 Queensland Oaks.
FUNSTAR won at the track and distance a benchmark 68 over the 1885m on the
28th April 2018 when defeating So You Merge and Miss Shanti. She stopped the clock at
1:56.87 to create the new track record.
OUR FUN winning on Saturday stopped the clock at 1:55.96 taking a massive 0.91 secs off the existing mark.
With approximately
7 lengths = 1 second that relates to approximately
6.2 lengths faster!
OUR FUN is trained under the “FREEDMAN BROTHERS” banner of Richard and Michael Freedman and Richard’s son Will.
She is based under RICHARD and WILL’s care at Rosehill.
OUR FUN on her way to the start
Adam Watt made the perfect call to grab
outstanding young Irish apprentice Tom Sherry who claims 3.0kgs at the provincials, which meant that
OUR FUN would drop from 56.5kgs to just 53.5kgs in this event and under weights and measures, it looked on paper an absolute certainty.
However, they don’t run races on paper, they run them on a track and there are always variables that come into play.
OUR FUN walked into the pre-race saddling enclosure like a movie star, thanks to the horse husbandry skills of the Freedman clan and went to the post as a $2.10 favourite and according to tipsters and
Sky Channel’s Gary Harley she was the
“Best Bet of the Day.”
Then aided by an 11 out of 10 ride by young gun
Tom Sherry, OUR FUN was never troubled in a
dominant win.
Instructions were simple enough; we are a go forward style of mare that likes to sit handy but can lead if no one else wants too. However, we would prefer to track up into the race.
The race panned out as we had hoped. 20/1 shot Scotty Be Gotti rolled forward after the jump and
OUR FUN scooted across after 150m to sit at its girth, as the field swung into the back straight and passing the 1600m mark.
Then Lousie Day aboard $6 third favourite Fuji Fury, who had been trapped 3 deep, did a lightning move to go around 3 deep to sit outside Scotty Be Gotti. Tom aboard
OUR FUN saw her coming and pushed up for 50m, making Fuji Fury work hard to clear and cross over which got Scotty Be Gotti fired up to keep the lead.
Then Tom on
OUR FUN took hold and got the perfect trail one pair back with cover one off the fence as Mister Hootabell pushed up to claim the fence.
Tom had ridden the perfect race and had manufactured the prized one out / one back spot.
The field stayed in this position until the point of the home turn where Scotty Be Gotti dropped out and Fuji Fury hit the front with
OUR FUN angling off its heels to give chase, 1.5 lengths off the leader at the 400m.
By the 300m, the race was all over as
OUR FUN swept to the front with none chasing able to respond to the turn of foot our mare showed.
Then at the 250m with blinkers on and no horse chasing her,
OUR FUN started to stargaze as if the job was done, so Tom just gave her one reminder and the mare accelerated away under hands and heels and allowed an easy time over the last 100m, the
Dynamic Duo still posted a widening 1.51 lengths on the line.

Tom Sherry & OUR FUN return winners
Thank you to Tom Sherry who may be an apprentice but can outride most seniors and has the benefit of a claim.
And most importantly a big thanks to
OUR FUN.
There are no reasons why there are not more wins in store for this lightly raced mare.
This is only her second race preparation and she is just getting up to a trip that suits her.
In her first race prep, she won on debut over 1400m at Kembla but then a series of training set-backs, niggling issues and immaturity, all combined at her next 2 starts and she was unplaced.
We spelled her and gave her time to grow into her frame. This time in the maturity has really been between the ears and in her appreciation of the feed bucket, where she is coping with the training regime so much better and enjoying her racing.
This preparation, she has raced well when building her foundations.
We took her down the line to Goulburn for her first two runs back at 1400m where she ran second and fourth over the unsuitable trips with genuine excuses both times. Third up we thought she would be very hard to beat at Gosford over 1600m and had she not copped the interference; she would have won.
However, its swings and roundabouts because that allowed us to run here at Newcastle, as only a Benchmark 59 mare and allowed us to beat the handicapper.
The 1885m was done with ease and there are some lovely races coming up for her at 2000m and further.
OUR FUN recorded Dynamic Syndications 618th Race Win, our 21st Race Win for the current racing season and our 55th Race win for the 2019 calendar year.
Importantly to our Team at Dynamic Syndications, its another success story we have experienced with Richard, Will and Michael Freedman.
We have developed a
terrific strike rate with the stable and our horses are racing superbly and we have had
many trips to the winner’s circle already and this will
continue to grow as we
continue to supply their stable with quality horses.
This win by OUR FUN was the 10th Race Win the team have trained for Dynamic Syndications in this 2019 Calendar year.
They have been: Witches, Mushaireb, Our Fun, Elaborate, Elaborate, Aloneinabaa, Hotel Amour, Hotel Amour, Hotel Amour and Our Fun.
A classic example of our belief in the stable is that we have given the team two (2) of our recently purchased European Imports to train for us. The boys received GREEK HERO (GB) (Sold Out) and RECONDITE (IRE) 75% Sold.
Join us in this incredible racing prospect.
5% Shares are $8,850 and the horse is now here in Australia and ready to head into the stable at Rosehill.
There is no guess work with the stable and
we are rusted on to their horse husbandry philosophies and racing views and easy to work with horse management and there is certainly no guess work with
RECONDITE (IRE) as a racehorse.
RECONDITE (IRE)
Join us as we set our sights on the rich middle-distance prizemoney with RECONDITE (IRE) and Richard, Will and Michael Freedman.
