Kyneton saw the emergence of
a classy 4yo UK import progressing through the learning curve of what racing is about in Australia when going
back-to-back with
stylish wins.
Light on his feet ! SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) romps in at Kyneton with John Allen aboard

SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) was purchased by Dynamic Syndications / Dean Watt Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Horses-In-Training Sale and brought to Australia for a
loyal and terrific group of Dynamic Owners.
After this victory SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) career now reads 10 starts: 2 – 5 – 2 and $43,915
At the time, he was a stylish looking individual but still very raw.
SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) when we purchased him in the UK
A young horse who was a maiden class galloper but had displayed enough racing talent in England to support our investment in him.
At his first preparation here, he only had the two starts. His first was at Wyong when he missed by a nose when after his long layoff, fitness just got the better of him in the final few strides.
Then he went to Canterbury and started short in the market but failed and pulled up with injuries out of the run. He was immediately spelled and allowed time to heal and it also allowed further time to acclimatise.
He has been sent to Melbourne to avoid what was at the time, very wet tracks in Sydney.
He is now as a more relaxed individual and responsive to our riders and pattern of racing, and as a result, he has been
impressive.
He resumed over
1200m on the April 16 when his
trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace suggested that they should take him away for an easy, confidence building run out to Swan Hill where the track has such a long home straight. Sent to the barriers that day as a
$1.55 favourite, he couldn’t match the early speed over 1200m but was allowed to get into his rhythm before not much more effort than trackwork over the concluding stages, to win by a widening
4 lengths win carrying 59.5kgs.
SAINT OF KATOWICE - Swan Hill Maiden Win
The handicapper in Victoria then
whacked him, making him a
Benchmark 61 rating for a Swan Hill
maiden win.
At
Kyneton on Monday 3 May, he faced the starter for the second time this preparation in the
Bendigo Service Centre BM58 Handicap. He was stepping
up 250m in trip to 1450m, and
up in grade from a Maiden to a
Benchmark 58 event. Due to the fact he was made a Benchmark 61 and he was running in a Benchmark 58 race meant the handicapper gave him
63.5kgs to carry which was
1.5kgs more than his closest peer.
There were
14 acceptors for this event being 10 runners and 4 emergencies. At 7:30am a total of
8 scratchings were recorded, bring the field back to just
6 runners. At that point, our ratings had us priced as a
$1.10 chance and betting agencies had him priced at a prohibitive
$1.15 - $1.18 quote.
At the 100m
At the 75m
Our horse slowly drifted in betting to just before they jumped, he got out to
$1.65 before firming back to $1.55 as
mug money came for two horses to beat him home. This was a luxurious price and our horse under the steering of
leading jet pilot John Allen didn’t work up a sweat in yet another display of arrogance to his peers.
In full flight
As the field jumped away, these small field sizes can sometimes be run in a tactical way, which can cause an upset. However, there was no way John Allen was going to let that happen.
Easy does it !
After jumping cleanly from barrier 2, he went to roll forward however pressure from out wide resulted in
SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) landing in third spot on the fence.
It was here that you see the mastery of a leading rider at work.
Returning to scale
Saint of Katowice returns a winner
The second favourite
Cyclone Sally ($3.80) was over racing behind us on the fence and John angled our horse straight off the paint onto the back of the horse
Mauser who was sitting at the girth of the leader
Compardy.
This ensured three aspects; firstly, he was one out, in the running line and taking away the possibility of being boxed-in. The second ensured that the horse on his back wouldn’t over race and gallop upon him behind, and thirdly, allowed John the opportunity to keep that runner in a pocket on the fence if he needed to do that as the race panned out.
Approaching the 400m,
SAINT OF KATOWICE hadn’t spent a penny, and was tracking-up under a stranglehold. At this stage, the field began to swing into the straight, John angled 3 deep to ensure he had clear galloping room.
As the field balanced in the straight, the brakes were let off and
SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) bounded away, dropping his peers in what was nothing more than an exhibition gallop under hands and heels. Passing the 200m it was all over as the white flag was being waved by those chasing. This afforded John an armchair ride to the post to record an
eased down 3.25 length win over second favourite Cyclone Sally (60.0kgs) with Mauser (62.0kgs) in third spot 5.5 lengths behind us.
Saint of Katowice gets a well deserved pat from John Allen
Congratulations to our Dynamic Owners of SAINT OF KATOWICE (IRE) as your horse appears to have a bright future especially when getting out to 1600m.
