On the back of a true red-letter day for
hot sire SO YOU THINK which saw him have
6 winners resulting in the top-class sire catapulting into fourth spot on the Sires Premiership,
SO YOU THINK keeps on producing affordable, high-class progeny off his realistic
$38,000 Service Fee.
When you're hot, you're hot, and timing is everything.
That's the takeaway from
Super Saturday where Coolmore Stud stalwart
So You Think started the day as one of many stallions with potential upside.
For his part, the dual Cox Plate-winning champion proceeded to make almost every post a winner – his progeny proceeding to put together 5 city wins and a runner-up, including victories in the
$1 million Inglis Sprint (
Rocketing By),
Gr2 Autumn Stakes (
Poland) and
Gr3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (
Peltzer – 5 on the trot at Randwick).
Miss Siska also ran second in the
Gr3 Carlton Cup, and Group 1 class
Regardsmaree won at Caulfield, as did
You Make Me Smile at Eagle Farm.
We had spied when the catalogue was produced, a yearling filly
LOT 118 by this tremendous sire.
Bred to be a superstar, the filly had been sent across the Tasman by leading thoroughbred nursery
CAMBRIDGE STUD on a
one way ticket to be offered for sale at the Inglis Classic.
Offered by BHIMA THOROUGHBREDS (as agent for CAMBRIDGE STUD), LOT 118 is a daughter of the tremendous racemare
LOVETRISTA (by Rock of Gibraltar).
A Gr2 Winner and Listed Winner, she won 3 races between 1400m to 2400m and was Gr1 placed in the NZ One Thousand Guineas.
As a broodmare, she has been doing the job, having produced
four foals to race – all winners.
In addition to their winning ways,
LOVETRISTA has had
3 yearlings sell for $470,000, $240,000, $150,000.
Overall, her progeny are
averaging $286,666 in the salering.
From one of
best families in the
NZ Stud Book,
LOVETRISTA is a
3/4-sister to:
VIKING RULER, KEMPINSKY, DIAMOND LIKE (dam of
FOREVER LOVED, ZEPHYRON ),
Chimeara (dam of
DE BEERS – Champion 3YO), and Love Diamonds (dam of
QUEEN OF DIAMONDS). She is a
1/2 -sister to
Ardeche (dam of
MONGOLIAN MARSHAL).
LOVETRISTA is a daughter of
TRISTALOVE (by Sir Tristram) Head of the 1992-93 2YO Free H., Joint Top Filly on the 1993-94 Australasian 3YO.
She won a total of
11 races, 4 at 2 and was a
dual Gr1 Winner claiming the AJC Sires Produce and the Australasian Oaks.
TRISTALOVE is a full-sister to
ANTWERP (dam of
VISCOUNT, HELSINBORG), 3/4-sister to
DON EDUARDO, KAAPSTAD, PERUZZI (dam of
LUCIDA). As a broodmare she produced 8 to race – all winners including 4 stakes winners, a stakes placegetter and the dam of a stakes winner.
This cross of
SO YOU THINK over ROCK OF GIBRALTAR mares has been replicated with multiple success and is an
A+++ pedigree rating cross.
This filly is not the horse to buy to win you the 2yo 1200m Inglis Classic, this is
a filly purposely bred to achieve success in the feature blue riband races over 1600m to 2400m as a 3yo and 4yo.
As a broodmare when her time comes to retire from racing, she will be eagerly sought, ensuring her
residual value will be high. If she can be successful on the racetrack and earn black-type like so many of her relations, then this filly could be a very valuable asset.
That’s one of the reasons you buy such well related fillies, the lure of excellent residual value.
We believe this filly has excellent conformation, and when we re-inspected her with
our veterinarian Dr TIM ROBERTS and he gave her his stamp of approval and then, her X-rays were clean and she also had a Grade 1 perfect scope, this was a filly to target to offer our owners tremendous upside.
We spoke with
BHIMA Stud’s representative prior to the sale and he advised us that the filly hadn’t been sought as much by local buyers as other horses in their draft and she only had a handful of X-ray inspections. Because she was to be sold, they would be putting limited reserved of just $50,000 on the filly and let her find her way in the salering from there.
To our valuation she was a desirable filly with excellent residual. We valued the filly at
3.5 to 4 times service fee.
Off a Service Fee of $38,000, that placed this filly in the range of about
$140,000 to $160,000.
However being offered for genuine sale and not heading home to NZ if she was unsold, and with a low $50,000 reserve, we felt she may be able to be purchased at about 3 times service fee being about
$115,000 to $120,000.
We made sure we were on the filly early in bidding, and as she climbed past $50,000, and our bid of
$70,000 + GST was not challenged, this
attractive, gilt-edged equine investment was secured by
Team Dynamic for what is outstanding value.
Even if she was to never race, as a filly off the track on her way to stud duties, she should be worth this sort of value.
So that represents minimum downside and maximum upside on a filly both genetically and commercially bred to be a sensation with looks to match.
