Displaying sizzling speed on a mud heap track at Hawkesbury gave
Dynamic galloper ESCAPED (Exceed And Excel x Se Sauver) an
easy first up victory on Sunday.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained ESCAPED had been setting the training tracks alight and it was considered by connections just a matter of turning up to win and that’s how the story unfolded when
ESCAPED won Race 5 the Julie Allnutt’s Birthday Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1000m on a Heavy 8 surface.
However, nothing ever goes smoothly in racing and that’s what occurred for
ESCAPED.
He was set to race at Wyong on Saturday in a Class 1 1000m event where tipsters had him pegged as the best bet at the meeting.
ESCAPED arrived on course but the race meeting was postponed prior to the start of the meeting due to heavy rain.
ESCAPED was placed back onto the float and returned home. So, it wasn’t a relaxing day for our powerhouse sprinter.
Fortunately, we had also accepted for this event at Hawkesbury.
Carrying top weight of 59.5kgs and ridden by
Adam Hyeronimus, ESCAPED gave his peers no chance, as he controlled the race from the front, running an incredibly quick 58.05 secs coming home his last 600m in 33.80. This time would be acceptable on a Good 4 rated surface, so to peel this off on a Heavy 8 track and for Adam to have the confidence to ease down over the final 25m, speaks to the superiority
ESCAPED was displaying against his peers.
ESCAPED has always shown connections above average ability however immaturity and minor setbacks have curtailed his race career to date.
With this win his race career now reads
4 Starts: 2 Wins and $52,230.
He debuted as a 2yo in the Lonhro Plate a Listed Race over 1100m finishing behind Bivouac and Cosmic Force. Spelled after that run when pulling up distressed, he resumed in a maiden at Kembla over 1000m which he won in a fighting effort in a slick 56.87 secs.
At his third start he was back to black-type level when running in the Rosebud LR finishing 3 lengths behind multiple stakes winner Dawn Passage.
Spelled again after that effort, when he returned to training, he suffered another setback.
He resumed training and was fitted up for this resumption race with two trials. First trial he was runner-up over 900m on a Heavy 9 to Best Stone followed by a dominating trial win over 1045m on a Heavy 8 defeating Signore Fox by 1.8 lengths and that horse won the Ramornie Handicap LR 1200m at Grafton during the week.
This form was certainly strong and on paper he appeared the leading prospect in the event however surprisingly the horse opened at $6.00 and then after scratchings was a $4.00 chance. He was backed into start $3.10 second favourite behind eventual 0.61 length runner-up the Hawkes trained Front Money.
Adam Hyeronimus stated post-race our horse was strong through the line and never in doubt during the run but 1000m doesn’t suit him as much as 1200m – 1400m will and he will be so much better when up in trip to these distances.
