Smart 2-year-old colt Cannonball (Capitalist) put on a powerful speed display to lead all the way and breakthrough for his first stakes win in the Listed Redoute's Choice S. at Caulfield.
Capitalist (Written Tycoon) stands at Newgate Farm and brought up his
eighth Individual Stakes Winner on Saturday as
Cannonball (2 c ex Golconda by Snitzel) took out the Redoute’s Choice Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Caulfield. He is also the sire of
11 Stakes Placegetters with his oldest just
3yo’s.
CANNONBALL
Sent out as second favourite,
Cannonball led most of the way under Brett Prebble, defeating Eye Of The Eagle (Alpine Eagle) by three-quarters of a length with a length and a half back to Port Albert (Sooboog) in third.
A $975,000 purchase from last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale,
Cannonball is the second stakes winner from two foals to race out of Golconda (Snitzel) with her first foal being Rubiton Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) winner
Marine One (by Capitalist).
CAPITALIST at Stud
Newgate is yet to announce Capitalist’s stud fee; he stood for $99,000 (inc GST) in 2021.
Brisbane beckons for
Cannonball as co-trainer Sam Freedman is convinced that whatever
Cannonball achieves this preparation, he will only be better next time in and a trip to Queensland is potentially on the horizon after his gutsy win in the Redoute’s Choice Stakes.
“He was a high price yearling and he’s shown plenty of ability from the start,” Freedman said.
“His first campaign was full of promise, we took him up to Sydney for the Golden Gift, but he probably overdid it a bit in the blinkers. We had to give him a short break and it was probably the best thing that’s happened to him, he’s come back a lot stronger this time in. He’s a brother to Marine One who’s improved from his late two-year-old into his three-year-old season and this colt gives us the impression his next campaign will be his best.
He was there to be beaten today; we still think he might be best ridden with a sit. He showed good fight, he was there to be beaten and he shied at the winning post at the end there.”
Having his fourth start, he took control of the race early on and held a comfortable margin all the way to the line.
Bred by China Horse Club and sold by Newgate Farm, Cannonball looks a sprinter of considerable promise with jockey
Brett Prebble also very impressed by him.
"I think he's going to be a better horse finding a backside and giving him one to run down. He gave a good kick but then he floated off the rail and he really needs a bunny himself. He's going to progress through the grades, he's already taken a big step today," he said.
"He just oozes class. He did it with ease, and I had so much in hand." Prebble added.
Dynamic Syndications purchased at the Magic Millions this year a sensational Colt by CAPITALIST from the Danehill line mare SABOT (by Arena).
Our COLT - CAPITALIST x SABOT
Our COLT is also bred for early speed, his Dam
SABOT is the unraced
Full-Sister to REGAL CHEER -
Gr1 Coolmore Classic Winner, Gr2 Surround Stakes Winner and she is the
Dam of dual Stakes Winner KNOYDART.
SABOT is a daughter of REGAL CHAMBER – she won the Magic Night Gr2 and was 3rd GOLDEN SLIPPER.
CAPITALIST seems to do no wrong with 8 Stakes Winners & 11 Stakes Placegetters among 61 winners to date.
Importantly for CAPITALIST and even moreso for those
owners that buy his progeny, from these
19 Black Type Horses, 6 Stakes Winners and 5 Stakes Placegetters (Total 11 = 58%) are out of
Danehill line broodmares.
More Importantly - 9 of these 11 Stakes Horses out of Danehill line Broodmares are COLTS (82%)
This is the same way our colt is bred.
So, it’s obvious that the sire has a
wonderful affinity with Danehill line mares, and in particular,
Owners have a tremendous advantage to race progeny of
Capitalist that are Colts from a Danehill line mare.
If you can purchase a Colt by Capitalist from a Danehill line broodmare, that has passed a full veterinary examination including X-rays and has a Grade 1 Videoscope, the odds of quality racetrack success are very heavily stacked in your favour.
Add-in the skills and expertise of
the leading training stables around Australia, then the
upside is enormous. Whilst there are
never any guarantees in racing, this
set of statistical facts are heavily weighted in your favour.
Keep drilling where you find oil, keep digging where you find gold. It’s not rocket science – it’s due diligence.
