$2.3 million for FASTNET ROCK Brother To Merchant Navy.
Champion sire Fastnet Rock set the sale ring alight at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when his stunning colt from Legally Bay sold for $2.3 million on Tuesday. This proved to be the second highest price paid for a Yearling at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sales in 2019.
This also equalled the third highest price ever paid for the progeny of this Champion Sire.
A full brother to Royal Ascot hero and dual Group I winner Merchant Navy he was offered by Segenhoe Stud with AQUIS FARM securing the prized youngster.
"I'd seen the horse a couple of times at the farm, seen him through the prep and obviously I've seen a fair few Fastnet Rocks in my time (working) at Coolmore, he was the pick of the horses here and the pick of the horses I'd seen all year,'' said AQUIS’ CEO Shane McGrath.
"Tony and Justin Fung (AQUIS FARM Owners) have been here all week and they loved the horse too thankfully. You saw when that horse walked into the ring that all the big players were on him, it was just a question as to where it stopped really.''
Ciaron Maher, who also trained Merchant Navy, will train the colt.
"He was a standout colt from the day he was born. You bring him to a sale like this, we knew he'd sell well but we didn't envisage he would make those numbers,'' Segenhoe's Peter O'Brien said.
"A lot of credit needs to go to Inglis for getting all these people here. Everyone is here and for a vendor, that's so important.
"This horse, he has a temperament like his brother, he's just bombproof and has a great action, a beautiful mover. Ciaron's training him so we're off to Ascot again!''
He is the tenth foal of Group 3 winning Snippets mare Legally Bay, who is also the dam of Group 2 winner Jolie Bay and stakes-placed Zara Bay, who are also by Fastnet Rock.
Legally Bay is now back in foal again to Fastnet Rock, who had another seven figure yearling with a filly from Port Augusta fetching $1million for Coolmore Stud.

ANAHEED Wins $1 million Percy Sykes Stakes Gr2
Right there with the best two year-old fillies this season, blue-blooded filly Anaheed (2f Fastnet Rock x Rostova, by Testa Rossa) was a deserving winner of the $1 million Group 2 ATC Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Anaheed had won the Group 2 ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes, was fourth in the Group 2 ATC Reisling and then a last start sixth in the Golden Slipper when not suited by the heavy ground.
Back on top of the ground, she showed her class when leading all the way after jumping from a wide gate for Tim Clark and hung on to win the 1200 metre dash by a nose over Godolphin runner Flit.
“She went good in the Golden Slipper when she was never happy on the ground so we expected her to run well,” said Tim Clark.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore Stud, Anaheed was retained by breeder Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and has won over $950,000 with three wins from six starts.
She is is the third winner for Group I winning Testa Rossa mare Rostova.
Rostova is in foal again to Anaheed’s sire Fastnet Rock.
MILLARD REACTION 2nd in South Pacific Classic LR 1400m
The best of good things beaten, the connections, Trainer: A J Edmonds and Rider: S Clipperton must still be crying after the bad luck Millard Reaction (3g Fastnet Rock x Miss Jakeo (Unbridled's Song (USA)) received when a sensational runner-up in the Agency South Pacific Classic LR 1400m at Randwick on Saturday.
The race went the way of Fasika who fell in after having a charmed run whilst Millard Reaction and Wild Planet both had flashing lights on them when finishing in the placings. Trying to secure a run through the field, Millard Reaction was chopped out twice and still flew home to miss out by just 0.1 length.
This was just his 3rd race start. He had won both of his first two starts and looks set for a big Brisbane Carnival. This son of Fastnet Rock looks very promising and one to follow.
AVANTAGE finishes strongly to claim third place in Gr2 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint 1200m
Classique Legend (3g Not A Single Doubt x Pinocchio (Encosta De Lago) was a deserved winner of the Arrowfield Sprint however the efforts of third placed AVANTAGE (3f Fastnet Rock x Asavant (NZ) (Zabeel (NZ)) for Trainer: J W Richards and Jockey O P Bosson was awesome. Getting away well and traveling in a forward position she finished strongly to just miss out on being runner-up.
Remember the Run of UNFORGOTTEN?
Without doubt the run of the day for a horse that didn’t win was that of UNFORGOTTEN who powered home in the Coolmore Stud - Legacy Queen Of Turf Gr1 1600m at Randwick.
Unforgotten (4m Fastnet Rock x Memories Of You (IRE) (Galileo (IRE))
Trainer: C J Waller and Rider: J B McDonald got back to last over the mile and then was the widest runner in the straight, powered home to record the fastest last 400m and 200m to claim third in the Gr1 event. Set an impossible position in the run the mare unleashed her run in race full of the highest quality competitors and covered more ground to finish just behind Kenedna and Dixie Blossoms.

EVERYONE LOVES FASTNET ROCK !
Dynamic Syndications purchased a fabulous Colt by
FASTNET ROCK
from
FRECKLE FACE
at the 2019 Magic Millions for
$190,000 + GST
and despite the fact this is the
“MOST EXPENSIVE”
horse we have ever purchased and offered for syndication, in light of the deeds of his sensational sire and the massive demand for yearlings by FASTNET ROCK, he now looks a
sensational sale-ring bargain
.
Our team at Dynamic Syndications knew the Colt was being offered under a Foal Share Agreement between
Coolmore Stud and Dr Denis O’Brien
who is based in Queensland.
A Foal Share Agreement
is where the resultant yearling created when a mare owner has a high quality, commercial broodmare, is offered the use of the stallion by the stud farm however instead of paying the advertised Service Fee, the stud waivers the fee however is entitled to 50% of whatever the yearling brings in the salering. The yearling must be offered for unreserved sale.
This is an obvious advantage because Foal Share Agreement horses are there to be bid upon with confidence, as the horse is on the market from the opening bid and won’t be passed-in.
There is little doubt that in our opinion, if the colt we purchased in January was sold through the wrong sale which was to our advantage.
Had he been offered at Easter where he deserved to be, he would have sold for significantly more.
With the
Inglis Easter Average at $459,911 and the Median at $325,000,
the Colt we purchased is a
well above average Colt on type and commercial pedigree
.
He is bred to be a Classics Contender as a 3yo, to aim at races such as Guineas and Derbies.
Those horses belong at the
Easter Sale
– not at the Magic Millions where the emphasis is on precocious 2yo speed.
Horses bred to be Classic Contenders tend to be over looked or discounted in January however those are the horses in demand by professional buyers at Inglis Easter.
FRECKLE FACE
Our Colt is from
FRECKLE FACE
(by Haradasun – a son of Fusaichi Pegasus).
