Congratulations to a top team of Dynamic Syndications Owners that own and race the beautifully bred 4yo mare
FRANKLY SAVVY (SAVABEEL x FRANKLY) who was facing the starter for the first time on a
bottomless Heavy 10 surface at
Canberra and
proved way too good.
FRANKLY SAVVY won Race 3 the
Jockey’s Celebration Maiden Handicap 1300m in 1:21.53 with a last 600m in 38.90 secs.
Despite being inexperienced, undone in racecraft and match fitness, the
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott “Bone and Muscle” style of conditioning came to the fore, as our horse
powered away to record an eased down and ears pricked victory by a widening
2.14 lengths over Mohahna (57.5kgs) with a further 2.55 lengths back to the favourite Namarari (56.0kgs).
This was the second winner this week for Dynamic Syndications trained by GAI & ADRIAN as we also won with ESCAPED at Canterbury on Wednesday
FRANKLY SAVVY's win was as much about the professional polish Gai and Adrian put on their horses as it was the class of the horse to win.
FRANKLY SAVVY at Tulloch Lodge on Thursday 20/8 the afternoon before her debut win - Gorgeous!
It takes a good horse to win on debut. Plenty try, not many achieve.
This race was over
1300m and on a
bottomless Heavy 10 surface. Our mare was
giving away weight to all bar one of her peers. We had jockey Lee Magorigan booked for the ride but were forced to find an alternative jockey late, after the rider was denied attending because a trainer held him to rides at the trials at Rosehill.
However, as fate would have it,
Winona Costin was without a ride. That played into our hands, as
Winona had been an apprentice to
Gai Waterhouse and knew Gai’s preferred "
take no prisoners" style.
Yesterday when we did our pre-race report, there were
16 acceptances in the race where the field limit was
12 runners and there were 4 emergencies. At 7:30am on Friday morning when scratchings closed, there were
8 scratchings recorded so the field had fallen away to just
8 starters.
7 of these 8 scratchings were from the
Sydney based trainers.
FRANKLY SAVVY was the only remaining Sydney based horse in the race.
This was a major assistance as several runners with strong formlines were among those that were scratched.
The tempo of the day was set in the first two races on the programme where the jockeys headed to the outside fence. Nobody wanted to get near the rail.
Winona rode FRANKLY SAVVY to the perfect GAI WATERHOUSE / ADRIAN BOTT style.
As the gates crashed back,
FRANKLY SAVVY was quick to muster speed and went forward to eyeball the leader and favourite Namarari on the fence, as another runner named Guiltless pushed forward from deep on the track to try and take the lead. Winona was having none of that and pushed forward to keep that runner trapped wide, as they passed the 1000m mark.
At the 600m mark
FRANKLY SAVVY had pulled her way to the lead as the field started their swing into the home straight. As the field balanced up, it was a race to the outside fence and Winona had
FRANKLY SAVVY leading and was the first to reach that important position.
By the 200m
FRANKLY SAVVY had dropped those chasing her and started to move away.
At the 100m
FRANKLY SAVVY was 2 lengths in front and was doing it so easy that she started to lose focus and wandered about, but Winona made her concentrate and straightened her up, ensuring she kept powering to the line.
