FRECKLE ROCK – our 4yo gelding (
Fastnet Rock ex Freckle Face) faced the starter for the
third time of his racing career and
won with authority,
as a $1.28 favourite should, when claiming
Race 2 at Scone on Tuesday, the
CALYX @ COOLMORE AUSTRALIA Class 2 Handicap (1600m).
“BIG FRECKLE” under the silky-smooth horse husbandry and training of
CIARON MAHER RACING has taken his career record to
3 starts: 2 Wins – 1 Second and $33,545 with the promise of far better race victories to come.
Congratulations to Jack Bruce who heads up their Warwick Farm stables and the terrific team that do such a wonderful job with our Dynamic horses.
FRECKLE ROCK looked amazing in the pre-race parade and matched his magnificent looks with a solid foundation stone race win, as we looked to create a good base to launch out at better targets over further ground.
He is
very unlucky not to be 3 wins from 3 starts after coping interference first-up this prep, when a close 2nd, having been the recipient of a skirmish over the last 50m, we protested but our objection wasn’t upheld.
Here at his third start at Scone, and second-up for the preparation, there was no reason to worry for connections and punters alike who took those tomato sauce odds.
Ridden a peach by our go to
jet pilot Christian Reith, from the moment the gates crashed back to the time they smiled for the camera passing the winning post, there were never any causes for concern.
Jumping quickly,
FRECKLE ROCK rolled forward before a 100/1 hope named Wiseman put the speed on and dashed to the front. Christian let that runner set a fast tempo, where our Dynamic Duo sat a half-length off the leader, whilst the second favourite Underboss, sat third the fence with that runner having the luxury of a 4.0kg claim.
It was a muddling run affair, the dash for the lead saw the second and third furlongs run in quick splits for a mile, being sub twelves. This got the field spread out a little and then passing the 1000m to the 600m the leader dropped anchor, peeling off two slow splits at 12.4. As the field bunched for the swing into the home straight, Christian kept his cool, keeping the eventual runner-up and second favourite locked in a pocket until the runners had balanced for the run home.
Christian knew he had a lap full of horse underneath him, so passing the 350m mark, Christian pushed the go button and
BIG FRECKLE bounded clear by a length doing that with ease.
200m
100m
From the 200m to the 100m Christian gave our horse a shake-up and his margin extended to such a comfortable lead that Christian had an armchair ride the final 100m, allowing
BIG FRECKLE to coast to the line in no danger of defeat.
50m
Underboss tried hard but was no match to
FRECKLE ROCK and Wiseman held on for third paying an incredible $23.90 the place.
Christian Reith & Freckle Rock Return to Scale
Christian reported that "he did that with ease, he's still learning, he got a bit keen in the early part, but came back and relaxed, and when I went for him he extended lovely, he was never going to get beaten. He had improved significantly from his first up run and whilst he is still learning his trade, he's going to win a few more yet."
