Two headline American Pharoah three-year-old colts made bold statements for their champion young sire.
Champion Racehorse (8 x Gr1 Winner) & Champion Young Sire - AMERICAN PHAROAH (USA)
On Saturday at Rosehill,
HEAD OF STATE became the
fourth stakes winner this calendar month, and the
23rd stakes-winner worldwide among
155 winners including another
14 stakes placegetters for
champion racehorse and now champion young sire AMERICAN PHAROAH.

Most importantly,
HEAD OF STATE is the sire’s first Southern Hemisphere Stakes Winner from just a small number of runners to date from his
first crop in Australia.
Head of State had put in a flashing light performance at his most recent start when runner-up at the Kensington track and looked to be crying out for more ground.
Stepping up in distance for the Group 3 ATC Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill, the
American Pharoah (USA) colt came into his own, scoring a determined win over the
2020 Magic Millions sale-topper and boom Deep Impact colt named
Profondo.
Profondo looked certain to have established a winning margin inside the final furlong until
Head Of State knuckled down to his task, hitting the line hard to beat his more fancied rival by a neck with nearly four lengths back to the next horse.
The two colts are likely to rematch in the
Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in two weeks’ time.
Trainer Waller stated,
"That's the plan. We thought he would take good progress from today's run in two weeks' time.
"Obviously, the second horse was very good, and he'll have a bit of improvement to come. I love the way they gapped the rest.
“I was fortunate enough to meet American Pharoah and what an amazing horse he was. I also met Bob Baffert at the same time, and it’s something I will remember all of my life.
“I’ve said to my owners, just stick with American Pharoah, he’s the real deal. They just need a bit of time. From their two-year-old year to three-year-old year things change a lot.”
Head of State sold for $850,000 at Magic Millions.
Head of State was the
most expensive yearling by his sire sold in Australia in 2020. He was purchased by
Tom Magnier for Coolmore at $850,000 from breeders
Brad Crismale and his sister Deanne Holland at the
Magic Millions.
He has the overall record of two wins and a second from seven starts with prizemoney in excess of $180,000.
Head of State is a half-brother to Group 2 winner
Man from Uncle, being the third winner from unraced Danehill Dancer (IRE) mare
Derelique, who is from the pedigree of the
Crismale family’s former star mare and
multiple Group 2 winner Shania Dane.
Derelique was bought by the Crismale family (Michael, Gail, Brad and Deanne) at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $80,000.
Unfortunately, she didn’t get to the races, but the mare has proven to be an
ATM machine as a producer, with her combined offspring selling for
$1.8million.
The Crismale Clan are well known industry participants. Many know
Michael as the
past Chairman of the ATC and he is a
current Racing NSW Board Member.
His son Brad has a huge passion for the thoroughbred industry and his goal of breeding elite stakes class horses continues bearing fruit.
Together the family have had great success over many years through the deeds of their horses that include: Mentality, Shania Dane, Danesty, Tavarnelle, Shalang, Amory Lane, Gliding, and many others and are terrific supporters of Dynamic Syndications as well having had success with various horses such as Teleplay, Mushaireb and Pleasantries.

Brad and Deanne sent Derelique back to American Pharoah the following season and produced a now 2yo filly named
Liberty State which Brad has retained to race and breed from in the future. In 2019 the mare missed to So You Think and last year she returned to
American Pharoah and as a result this year on the 29th August,
Derelique produced a colt by the sire. This season they have booked their mare to visit Wootton Basset (GB).
2) American Pharoah 3yo Colt Wins by Nine!
A three-year-old maiden winner at this time of year that scores a
win by nine (9) lengths is always going to warrant attention.
In Victoria on Friday,
KING OF PHARAOHS (3c American Pharoah x Miss With Attitude by Galileo) did exactly that, when eased down to a canter across the line, he saluted at Coleraine.
King of Pharaohs was luckless at his first two starts finishing third at Ballarat and then sixth at Sandown, but he made amends in no uncertain terms with a commanding victory at his third trip to the races.
Sent out a hot favourite in a field of 11 runners for a 1600m maiden,
King of Pharoahs was simply a
“mile too good” for his rivals.
Retained to race by his breeders after being withdrawn from Inglis Easter Sale in 2020,
King of Pharaohs was raised at renowned South Australian nursery Mill Park Stud and has a
pedigree typical of most American Pharoah progeny that suggests
longer trips will suit even better.
He is a half-brother to South African Group 3 winner Crown Towers and is the fifth winner from five to race from Group 2 placed Galileo mare Miss With Attitude, a half-sister to the dams of Group 2 winner Peltzer and stakes-winner So We Are.
King of Pharaohs became the 8th Individual Winner from the first Southern Hemisphere crop of the champion sire and looks to be yet another progressive three-year-old and stakes winner in waiting for
American Pharoah.
So, when you can’t beat them, you buy them!
