Hawker Hurricane (by Deep Field) has won the Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise Classic at Ballarat and now heads towards the rich Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.
Hawker Hurricane trained by Mike Moroney was one of eight juveniles on debut in the nine-horse field in Saturday's 1000m race and made an immediate impression, finishing well to win the $200,000 event by 3/4 of a length.
Hawker Hurricane finishes strongly to defeat Chavert and Alburq
He finished full of running late in the race to overpower the highly regarded and expensive filly Charvet, while stablemate and early leader Alburq (by Rubic) who had lead until the final few strides before being grabbed in the shadows of the post was a blink back in third spot.
Moroney will now aim both Hawker Hurricane and Alburq towards January's $2 million Magic Millions (1200m) at the Gold Coast should they come through the race well.
"If they keep going the right way we'll head north.
"You can't dismiss what they've done. As long as they stay intact physically, we'll certainly head that way."
Winning rider Mark Zahra predicted a bright future for the son of boom first crop sire Deep Field after he came from worse than midfield to win Victoria's most unique race.
Mark Zahra was impressed by the colt who having settled sixth and was on then placed on the inside of runners turning for home before getting a split at the right time.
Zahra said "He's a nice horse and will improve a lot.
"He doesn't know what he's doing yet.
"He's a very green horse and it's lucky I drew well because I was able to save ground.
"I just needed a bit of luck and he got that.
“He showed a good turn of foot when he got clear.
"He's going to be a really nice horse in the autumn.
"I liked him in his jump-out and I just needed a bit of luck today and he got it in the finish.
"After a bit of bother early I managed to get into a nice spot and in this sort of race if you have a horse who can quicken underneath you it gets you out of trouble, which is what he was able to do."
Hawker Hurricane is by Deep Field was a $150,000 yearling at the Magic Millions.
Moroney's stable foreman Jack Turnbull said it was an exciting time for the stable to unearth their first pre-Christmas juvenile in over 10 years.
"It's nice to have an up and going two-year-old in the stable, long may it continue."
The win of Hawker Hurricane was a boost to his half-sister by exciting new sire “Super One” brilliantly quick son of leading Australian Sire I Am Invincible, who is being sold at the 2019 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Deep Field - First Crop Sire
Deep Field unveiled another promising performer in Spaceboy (trained by Gary Portelli) who despite running out of petrol on debut, still managed to run second behind the new Golden Slipper favourite Tassort at Rosehill Gardens. He had won a trial by 6 lengths leading into his debut run.
COSMIC FORCE ~ Deep Field's first winner
Whilst Deep Field had already sired his first winner two weeks before when debut winner Cosmic Force saluted at Newcastle.
DEEP FIELD progeny are the talk of the racing industry and the fact he has now produced 2 Winners and a Sydney Saturday runner-up from just 5 runners sets up an exciting future for the speed son of Northern Meteor.
Dynamic Syndications have an exciting 2yo filly by DEEP FIELD available at the moment.
She’s from the wonderful stakes winning mare PRINCESS MARIZZA.
PRINCESS MARRIZA
If anyone should know which are the better progeny of any sire to take an equity stake in as a yearling, it would always have to be the breeder who stands the stallion and has had the opportunity to see all the progeny.
Dynamic Syndications purchased our filly at the Magic Millions.
The ink hadn’t dried on the purchase slip when Henry Field (Managing Director of Newgate Farm, came over to Team Dynamic and said that in his opinion, she was one of the best fillies Deep Field had sired in his first crop and asked if Newgate Farm on behalf of his business partners, could buy a share back into her to race with Dynamic Syndications.
You don’t get a bigger wrap that when the breeder wants to buy into the horse and race it with you and naturally, we were delighted to have Newgate and their partners join us.
