The
first official two-year-old trials at Randwick each spring are always packed with anticipation and
Widden Stud young gun TRAPEZE ARTIST made his mark with a
heat winner and three placegetters from 4 runners.
TRAPEZE ARTIST supporters would be
doing cartwheels over the exciting start to his stallion career on
Monday Morning 19/9/22.
He had four (4) of his progeny head to the sport, and impressively, each of the 4 runners across the 10 Heats showed-up, to give breeders and owners who supported TRAPEZE ARTIST great encouragement.
TRAPEZE ARTIST (by Snitzel) the 4-time Gr1 Winning Champion 3yo, had his progeny contest four (4) Heats with the following results:
Flying Trapeze – Colt; Heat 5 = Winner
Snatchreilly – Colt; Heat 7 = Second
Sky Artist – Filly; Heat 8 = Second
Saroyan – Colt Heat 10 = Third
Competing amongst some of the
bluebloods of their peer group,
TRAPEZE ARTIST progeny more than held his own, showing that
his progeny can run both early and swiftly and putting down a line in the sand to say to his peers that
his progeny are well above average.
HEAT 5 – Colts – Flying Trapeze – 52.38 seconds
First Runner = First Trial Winner trial winner for Snitzel’s Champion son TRAPEZE ARTIST as
FLYING TRAPEZE showed good pace to cross and lead from an outside gate. Held together mid stages and then ridden along to find the line, he scores a win over the strong finishing Snitzel colt Empire of Japan.
An $85,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for his trainer Gary Portelli, FLYING TRAPEZE was bred by Bert Vieira the owner of TRAPEZE ARTIST and is the second foal of the mare Coromandel, a half-sister by Bernardini (USA) to Group 2 winner Toydini.
His trainer Gary Portelli anticipates the Colt will now head to the Breeders Plate, so he may well be the first race day performer for
TRAPEZE ARTIST, who stands at Widden Stud at a service fee of
$55,000 this spring.
HEAT 7 – Colts – Ozzmosis – 51.38 seconds
Second heat winner for Zoustar on the day, the Bjorn Baker trained colt Ozzmosis was under plenty of pressure being asked for an effort in this heat, and he responded to win by half a length with his trainer keen to get him into the Breeders Plate.
Running home stylishly with “flashing lights” for second was the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained dashing grey Trapeze Artist colt Snatchreilly.
It was back on the fence midfield, 3 lengths off the leaders at the 250m, and had to be angled 3 deep to give chase. Becoming slightly unbalanced, once he saw daylight,
he flew home under his own steam, not being pressured to improve whilst winner had to be punched out hard to maintain its lead.
HEAT 8 – Fillies – Just Gisella – 52.20 seconds
The Michael Freedman trained filly Just Gisella did a great job to give Justify (USA) a really good heat winner, as she had to overcome some adversity to grab the leader on the line. Just Gisella was held up on the rail and had to be angled out by Tommy Berry before he could ask her to lengthen.
When she got that clear ground, Just Gisella found her rhythm and hit the line well in a most encouraging performance to beat
another high-quality Trapeze Artist youngster in Sky Artist.
The runner-up did all the hard work leading the way but just felt the pinch over the last 30m.
No doubt that it will be fitter for the experience, the impressive aspect about
Sky Artist was the natural gate speed it showed. It was unlucky for connections that they ran into a very good filly in Just Gisella, otherwise the sire
TRAPEZE ARTIST should have won 2 of the four heats his progeny competed in.
Heat 10 – Colts – Tarabeau – 51.94 seconds
Brazen Beau colt Tarabeau, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, was a late addition to this heat and blitzed them, travelling a little deep and cruising away to win by more than two lengths over colts by Written By and
Trapeze Artist.
TRAPEZE ARTIST sired the third placed Saroyan, who had appeared to claim the runner-up spot but was officially third. The runner-up and third placegetter both hit the line strongly as the speedy winner was taking fairy footsteps the final 50m. No doubt
Saroyan will learn a lot from this heat, as the runner-up Maktabi (Written By) was laying in over
Saroyan the final 150m and had this been a race the result would have been overturned in the Stewards Room.
In summation,
from his four runners TRAPEZE ARTIST should have sired 2 Winners and 2 Seconds, however the 1 Winner; 2 Seconds; 1 Third has announced that TRAPEZE ARTIST appears a highly promising young sire and will have his progeny hitting the track early.
Dynamic Syndications are naturally delighted with these TRAPEZE ARTIST results after purchasing a stunning filly from Gr3 Winner WOWEE just 10 days ago.
Importantly, she has been placed into the care of CIARON MAHER Racing and is already 70% Sold at just $3,935 per 5% Share inc GST and ALL COSTS to 1st January 23.
