First Winner for CAYLX Coolmore Studs First Crop Sire

Calyx (GB) was a brilliant Group 2 winning sprinter by super sire Kingman, who was shuttled to Coolmore Australia for just two seasons.

Having had just one of his progeny face the starter previously, who was a fast-finishing fourth at Saint-Cloud in France behind impressive winner Myconian (by Magna Grecia).

On Wednesday in France, Caylx had his second runner represent him when his daughter Classic Flower (2f Calyx - Crown Of Flowers, by Garswood) provided Calyx with success as a first crop sire when running out a convincing debut winner at Salon-de-Provence.

CLASSIC FLOWER - first winner for new sire CAYLX

Having been setting the training tracks alight, Classic Flower was facing the starter for the first time sent out favourite over the sprint trip. She settled in behind the leader and was travelling with ease into the straight. Kept under a hold before being let off the bridle and then when asked, she slid up to the lead a furlong from home. Pushed out to the line, she denied Aquila Volante by half a length, with another two and a half lengths back to the third.

Kingman at stud

Calyx himself provided Kingman with his first winner at stud. He stormed five lengths clear at Newmarket. Trained by John Gosden, Caylx went on to win the Group 2 Coventry Stakes ten days later, beating Advertise into second. He made an impressive return in the Group 2 Commonwealth Cup Trial over course and distance the following season.

A Juddmonte Farm homebred, Calyx is out of dual Stakes winner Helleborine, herself a full-sister to Group 1 winning sprinter African Rose.

Champion two-year-old Native Trail also features under the second dam, whilst Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes victor Distant Music features further down the page.

Calyx’s first yearlings sold for up to €205,000 last year in Europe and are now in training with the likes of Andrew Balding, George Boughey, Karl Burke, Joseph O’Brien and Paddy Twomey, to name just a few.

Calyx has had yearlings sell for up to $230,000 in Australia this year, with his highest priced yearling being a colt from Without Saying at Magic Millions.

AQUA D’AMORE (by Danehill) (5 wins) was a winner of 9 races including the Gr1 MRC Futurity S., AJC Villiers S., Gr2, Summer Cup Gr3, MRC Eclipse S., Gr3. She was Gr1 placed a further 5-times and was 4th in the Cox Plate.
