Freshman Sire Vancouver the talk of Randwick 2YO Trials
Freshman Sire Vancouver the talk of Randwick 2YO Trials

At Monday’s traditional first Randwick 2YO trials of the new season,
Ticket To Ride, a filly by Freshman Sire
Vancouver
(Medgalia d’Oro) put a quick time on the clock for trainers Richard and Michael Freedman over 852m.
Running on the Kensington circuit, the first crop daughter of Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver recorded 50.17secs. Adjusted times (see below) would have her as the fastest filly on the day.
Vancouver was the only Freshman Sire to have a winner on the morning. Vancouver also produced the highly impressive Postcode who was runner up in his heat and Easy For Me who ran 4th.
VANCOUVER - Made his presence felt as a Freshman Sire at the 2yo trials
Whilst the
Waterhouse-Bott stable
seems to have a smart colt on their hands in
Belieber
by Zoustar whose last 600m of 33.66 sec was almost half a second quicker than any other juvenile.
Hoofnote on trial times:
The first five heats were conducted over 852 metres and the remaining six over a trip 5 metres shorter at 847 metres due to damage the 2yo’s were causing to the course proper as they jumped away.
5 meters is considered to be just over 2 lengths and with 1 length = 8 feet / 2.4 metres x 2 is 4.8 lengths plus 0.2 metre = a Nose.
So when comparing times, the rule of thumb is
7 lengths = 1 second.
Therefore 1 length is equal to 0.14 second so
2 lengths = 0.28 of a second + a Nose
=
0.30 secs.
With these
amendments
,
Heat 4
for Fillies becomes the best time
49.87
(Ticket To Ride – by Vancouver)
Heat 5
for the Colts becomes the best time
50.17
(Belieber – by Zoustar)

REVIEW:
HEAT 1 = 50.59 (adjusted 50.29)
- First trial went the way of the Godolphin homebred
Beyliks
, a powerful
Lonhro
colt, the first foal from Exceed and Excel's former brilliant Group 3 winning juvenile Ottoman. He did everything right for James McDonald and found the line strongly under a hold to win by a length and a half over Remorseless and Osamu, the $1.7 million Inglis Easter purchase.
Beyliks is bred on a highly successful nick with Lonhro and Danzig combining in the pedigrees of nine stakes-winners headed by Group 1 winner Bounding, who produced that $4.1 million Curlin colt at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, also Manicure, a stylish Group 3 winner last Saturday.
HEAT 2 = 51.04 (adjusted 50.74)
- A royally bred
Fastnet Rock
filly
Goddess
covered ground and kept coming all the way to the line to score a strong neck win over Super One Susie who closed off well after travelling on the fence behind the pace.
Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Goddess is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Manuel and half-sister to Group 3 winner Taking Aim and Group 2 placed Witherspoon.
HEAT 3 = 50.81 (adjusted 50.51)
– This heat was won by
War Memorial
by
Fastnet Rock
. Three colts battled it out to the line with early leader Mr Colorful swamped late by Aftermath and then War Memorial pounced and was too strong.
A $680,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Edinburgh Park draft for China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock, the Snowden trained War Memorial is a full brother to handy three year-old Eleven Eleven. He is from well-bred import Smokin Alice (USA), a grand-daughter of US stakes-winner Adarling, who is also the grand-dam of blue hen Mica’s Pride, the dam of Group 1 stars Criterion and Comin’ Through, whose also by War Memorial's sire Fastnet Rock.
HEAT 4 = 50.17 (adjusted 49.87)

Standing at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $44,000, Vancouver has his first two year-olds running this season. Later in the morning he had his only other runner on the day step out in the fastest colt heat of the morning named Postcode and he also looks a fabulous prospect.
HEAT 5 = 50.47 (adjusted 50.17)
– The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt
Belieber
by
Zoustar
looked one of the more stylish wins of the morning when he presented as a typically ultra-professional youngster when leading all the way to win by 2.3 lengths.
Belieber was passed in at the Magic Millions shy of his $200,000 reserve and is the first foal of Sense and Reason, a smart metropolitan winner by Exceed and Excel from the family of former slick two year-old filly Burning Sands, who won a Group 3 ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes. Dynamic Syndications were very keen on the filly at the sales but identifiable x-ray concerns contributed to the colt not reaching the asking price.
***** Distance reduced 5m to 847m *****

– Flashy chestnut Choisir filly
Every Rose
, was well educated and lengthened nicely off a very hot early tempo to win by just over a length.

The win was flattered by the big efforts of the leading pair Duchess (More Than Ready x Tenant’s Tiara) and Twilight Affair (Zoustar x Sunset Affair) who dashed forward and set up the time but the early work told and they hit the wall with 100m to run and Duchess is the one to follow from the trial.
HEAT 7 = 50.32 FASTEST COLT
– The Snowden stable produced an eye-catching winner here in
Deep Field
colt
Nitrous
, who was sharp to begin and led all the way to win by just over a length over another very impressive colt by Vancouver named

Bred by Gilga, she is the first foal of Group 3 placed Denman mare Igraine, a Darley bred sibling to Group 2 winner El Cambio, stakes-winner Complicate and stakes-placed Cataclysm, the dam of Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond winner Earthquake.
HEAT 9 = 50.88
– Outstanding sire
I Am Invincible
gave us the winner of this heat, with the Snowden trained colt

finishing off with strongly to run past the leaders under a hold and win by a length in the China Horse Club colours.

He is from former top racemare Mimi Lebrock, who won a Magic Millions 2YO Classic and trained on to win multiple Group races.
HEAT 10 = 51.40
– Godolphin produced their second trial winner when

filly

, a descendant of Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay, steamed home from off the pace to win by half a length.
