Group 1 Targets for Dynamic Wandjina Winner

The juvenile maiden at Warwick Farm on Wednesday looked a strong affair on paper with victory going to the Dynamic Syndications purchased Wandjina colt Deep Chill, who will now be aimed towards Group 1 races such as the ATC Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes.

Trained by David Payne, Deep Chill was fifth to subsequent $2million Inglis Millennium winner Castelvecchio when making his debut at Canterbury last month and then finished a good third to McLaren in the Group 3 ATC Canonbury Stakes on February 2.

Stepping up to 1200 metres and dropped back to maiden class, Deep Chill came with a well-timed run under jockey Hugh Bowman to score a stylish long neck win over More Than Ready filly Still Single, and third was Deep Field first starter Bullet Fly.

A Dynamic Syndications purchase for $120,000 at the Magic Millions, the colt went to a long-time of David Payne stables client John Cordina.

Deep Chill is a half-brother to Group 3 winner Dreamforce and is the fourth winner from former top class mare Eskimo Queen, who won both the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and STC Coolmore Classic.

David is excited about the prospects of Deep Chill.

"He's a nice horse and look at his pedigree… he'll get out to 1600 metres and further," said David.

"We'll look at the Sires and Champagne Stakes for him now."

"He's very raw and doesn't really feel like a Slipper horse, but it was an above average maiden and I think you'll find that in six to eight months time when this horse gets out to 1600 metres and beyond he will be top class," said Hugh Bowman.

Dynamic Syndications has the honour of purchasing the first winner for Newgate Farm's stallion Wandjina, who is also the sire of another stakes placed horse in Grand Scholar from just 10 runners to date.

Dynamic Syndications actually purchased 2 Wandjina yearlings in 2018 and whilst the colt Deep Chill is very promising, the Team at Dynamic are extremely confident they have a filly from the mare SPOOKED with Gai Waterhouse that goes better again.

She showed enormous ability in training last preparation and the temptation was strong to push on for a crack at the Inglis Millennium.

However experience over rules desire and the filly was instead sent for a short break and she has returned to training with a view of having a genuine tilt at the Brisbane Winter Carnival. On what she showed so far she deserves to be considered at that level.

The Wandjina progeny as yearlings never looked like being precocious 2yo types.

They all looked slower maturing 3yo types but as we get later into the season and then into the Spring as 3yo’s that’s when we expect to see the breed come to the fore.

With what Deep Chill has done and with the ability our filly from Spooked has shown us, the future certainly looks promising for both the Dynamic Wandjina progeny.
