Wow - What a Win! We saw it but we can’t believe it!
As the saying goes:
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
HIGH SUPREMACY winning photo
However, everyone who saw the
incredible WIN by our
Richard Freedman trained 4yo gelding HIGH SUPREMACY (Savabeel x High Chaparral) acknowledges the
win came thanks to the perfect
combination of a
quality horse matched to the
brilliance of
our mate in the saddle,
jet-pilot Nash Rawiller.
Nash was on fire at Royal Randwick on Saturday, grabbing 4 victories, but
without doubt, his ride on
HIGH SUPREMACY was his most impressive, aided by the ability of his
trusty steed beneath him.
HIGH SUPREMACY won Race 4, The Agency Handicap, a Benchmark 78 event over 1400m when jumping from barrier 9 in a field of 13 runners to claim the $61,250 first prize cheque.
HIGH SUPREMACY (58.0kgs) ($8 equal 3rd fav) defeated Taksu (58.0kgs) ($8 equal 3rd fav) by 0.45 length with Five Kingdom ($41) (55.5kgs) 0.79 lengths in 3rd. They ran a slick time on the Soft 5 surface of 1:23.13 with a last 600m clocked in 35.50 secs.
However
HIGH SUPREMACY finished so
brilliantly, he recorded a last 600m of
34.20 secs. That was
1.3 seconds faster than the race clocked, which equates to approximately
9-lengths faster.
From the
600m to the 400m he clocked
11.41 without being asked to improve, then from the
400m to the 200m he ran a slick
11.11 secs and was allowed to an ease down over the last 30m he recorded
11.68 secs for his
final 200m.
To put that time into perspective, of the
three races run over the 1400m on the day, Race 4 was run in
1:23.13 which was
faster than both the two following 1400m Stakes Races where in the
Gr3 Bill Ritchie won by Atishu (4yo mare) carrying only 53.5kgs ran 1:23.74 with a last 600m of
34.94 secs where Atishu ran her last 600m in
34.45 secs. In the
Gr2 Tea Rose won by Four Moves Ahead carrying 56.0kgs it was run in 1:24.74 with a last 600m of
35.98 secs. Four Moves Ahead (3yo filly) ran her last 600m
35.38 secs.
HIGH SUPREMACY had suffered a setback to start of this preparation, including being a scratching for his first up assignment a few weeks ago, when a nasty virus floored him, and it has taken the silky skills of his devoted trainer and the team at the Rosehill stables of
Richard Freedman to get him back on the track to continue the preparation.
We were well behind the eight ball in fitness and overall health heading into Saturday’s race where we feel he has natural improvement. Looking at him, you could see that he had overall fitness to come, and he still wasn’t right in his coat, as handfuls of his winter coat are coming out of him at the moment.
He is still a
few weeks away from being a picture of health and fitness, however what never changes is class.
HIGH SUPREMACY displayed his natural ability and won with authority. Aided by a terrific ride, and the right pre-race tactics, the Dynamic Duo delivered an incredible victory.
What is exciting for his ownership team is that we believe he has a
minimum three to four lengths improvement still to come.
It’s certainly no surprise to Dynamic Syndications Owners and connections that he won here based upon his
class.
Saturday’s victory took the career record HIGH SUPREMACY to:
9 starts: 2-3-1-1 and $187,105 prizemoney.
He is a now winner at 1300m and 1400m. 6 of his 9 race starts have been in stakes races. He ran:
2nd ATC Frank Packer Plate Gr3 2000m, NJC Spring Stakes Gr3 1600m, Canberra Guineas LR 1400m, 4th ATC Carbine Club Gr3 1600m.
Both his wins have been first-up from a spell.
We had huge belief last preparation that he was a
Gr1 Queensland Derby prospect based upon his pedigree and conformation and racing style, so that whole preparation was about arriving at that Derby target.
However, it was not to be. After his run in the
Frank Packer Plate over 2000m, rider James McDonald thought he struggled over the final furlong when runner-up by 1.3 lengths to Senor Toba.
We still continued to Brisbane and ran in the
Rough Habit Plate Gr3 2000m where he finished 6th only beaten 2.1 lengths to Criminal Defence and Kukeracha. Nash rode him that day and told us he didn’t quite see out the 2000m.
So, we aborted our dreams of the 2400m Gr1 Derby and spelled him in Queensland where he had the warmer Queensland climate on his back. He came back into work the best we could have hoped for, and then he trialled sensationally.
First trial he had an easy time when just as a pipe opener behind
Masked Crusader, that horse franked the form by winning
The Heath Stakes Gr3 1100m first-up at Caulfield.
We then trialled again, when 1.9 lengths behind
Giannis. Then
Giannis trialled a second time defeating
Ranch Hand. Giannis came out and won the
Dulcify LR 1500m whilst
Ranch Hand went to Flemington and won the
Poseidon Stakes LR 1100m.
HIGH SUPREMACY pulled-up lethargic out of the trial of the 26th August and within 12 hours had a high temperature suffering a virus which put us behind in a few vital gallops. Whilst we knew we had the foundation fitness in his legs, we knew he hadn’t been extended in his trackwork for this first-up assignment.
Prior to winning this event, in his past 8 runs, his last 6 of these 8 races were in stakes grade.
Here he was dropping back a long way in class to a Benchmark 78 grade and he was very well weighted here with only 58.0kgs on his back.
Nash was unaware of the easier time we had given
HIGH SUPREMACY over the previous 21 days and when he presented from the jockey’s room
Richard Freedman reported to us, that he asked Nash did he have a pre-conceived race plan?
Nash responded positively that he
“wanted to be sitting at the girth of the leader on this track the way the bias was unfolding after the first three races.
Richard retorted:
“OK, so what’s Plan B?”
Nash was puzzled but Richard explained the setback we had leading into the event and whilst he was fit enough to run well, we couldn’t go with Plan A as he didn’t have that fitness in his legs. He needed to give him as easy time as possible during the race and let him finish off.
Nash said:
“ok I will go right back and ride the fence for luck.”
Richard was unsure if that was the right Plan B and asked:
“do you think you’ll get a run through them doing that?” to which Nash replied
“oh yeah.” So, Richard said
“good luck.”
Our pre-race ratings had him statistically a
6/4 chance ($2.50 favourite), due to the massive class drop, good weight, excellent rating figures and a previous first-up win.
Sent out an
$8.00 third favourite, whilst we believed him to be superior to his peers on ability, he would need to overturn both the track bias of the day and give them a huge head start in what looked an open event.
“In NASH we Trust!”
As the gates crashed back, as expected in Plan B,
Nash grabbed hold and allowed HIGH SUPREMACY to drift back toward the tail so by the time the field had travelled 200m, he was already 7-lengths off the leaders but true to his
Nostradamus like prediction, he had found the fence.
Great Pic! The field on the infield Screen thunders past the 1000m with HIGH SUPREMACY well back
After running the first 600m, as the field swept past the 800m peg, Nash and
HIGH SUPREMACY were
3rd last, 5 pairs back and 10 lengths off the leaders. Flicking past the 600m post, nothing had changed, except Nash was further back,
9-10 lengths off the leaders, and the
Dynamic Duo looked like he had lost sight of the bunny.
The field swept into the home turn and balanced up into the straight, and passing the 400m as they flattened out, they were now in last spot, still 7-8 lengths away, and Nash was riding so patiently, not showing any urgency to ask
HIGH SUPREMACY to improve.
What was about to unfold was simply scintillating.
Still with a wall of horses across the track in front of them, and spotting the leaders
5 lengths at the 300m, Nash simply gave
HIGH SUPREMACY one tap on the shoulder and our horse picked up the bit however the race looked well and truly over.
Passing the 200m, still no urgency from Nash but steadily gaining ground, at the 180m Nash saw the gap appear and pushed the
“go-button.” It was unbelievable to watch. All his peers were in full flight across the track and all at maximum speed as their riders believed they were on winning hopes, fighting for the camera to flash.
Under Hands and Heels no pressure as he extends for a terrific win
HIGH SUPREMACY - He's flying!
In a brilliant display of pure natural speed, HIGH SUPREMACY lengthened as only top horses can.
Riding hands and heels, Nash drove him forward, picking up the deficit and going past them as if they were standing still.
Cruising to the line
Such was the display of speed and power, Nash was able to sit up over the final 30m to allow our horse to glide the post with an increasing margin to record a 0.45 length victory.
WOW – What a WIN.
Returning to the winners stall
Post-race a happy trainer grinning beneath his COVID mask like a Cheshire cat was interviewed by
Greg Radley:
“Well done Richard. Well for the last couple of weeks for Dynamic, you’ve had LOVE TAP return and now HIGH SUPREMACY, both returning in great style.”
A happy RICHARD FREEDMAN
Richard replied:
“Yeah it’s been great for them. You know Dynamic are good supporters and they have got some well managed horses, they buy nice horses, so it’s good to have them in the stable.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t give you a better push for him before the race. He surprised me a little bit, but it was an 11 out of 10 ride.”
Greg Radley chimed back in:
“It’s worth going and watching again.”
Richard responded:
“You know he (Nash) told me he would do that!
“I said I don’t know if he’s fit enough to go forward Nash and he just said ‘umm, umm, I’ll go back and ride for luck’ and I said do you think you’ll get a run through them and he said, ‘oh yeah.’ So (laughing), he (Nash) has premonitions I think.”
Greg Radley then asked:
“You’re convinced, to stay at a mile?”
Richard said:
“I think that’s what he is, a run on 1400m, mile horse. He gives you the impression he’ll go further, but I don’t think he does.”
Interviewer Corey Brown then spoke to Nash Rawiller:
Incognito - NASH RAWILLER returns a Winner
Corey said:
“Ten out of ten Nasher! You’re in good form mate, were you always confident in the run?”
Nash commented:
“I always travelled well. He relaxed really good today. He’s been a quirky type of horse, he’s gone to win a few races and just, more mentally than anything, just hasn’t put them away and today, I was very mindful of that, and Richard felt he would improve with the run, and I have gone back, found the fence and rode for luck and when he got that split at the 100m, he really accelerated well. I still felt there in the last 100m he was floating a bit; he’s hit the line full of running.
“Look, he’s a nice horse on his day that horse, don’t underestimate him, he’s shown us a bit, but that’s the first time he’s put it together, and it’s pretty exciting the way he did it. It’s good.”
HIGH SUPREMACY - A Handsome Lad
Congratulations to our wonderful team that own and race HIGH SUPREMACY: Dynamic Syndications Racing, Mr J R Carter, Mr R B McKay, Mr S R Freeman, Mrs A May, Mrs G P Allan, Whitby Bloodstock Pty Ltd.
A big shout out to co-owner Steve Freeman who experienced the excitement and thrill of his first Sydney Saturday winner.
HIGH SUPREMACY returned to the track this preparation as a horse to follow.
Only challenged against the leaders of his generation last preparation and proved up to them having
earned black-type on four of his six starts at stakes grade, there certainly appears to be nicer races available for him as we get deeper into this preparation.
A shout out to trainer
RICHARD FREEDMAN at Rosehill and his team of riders and ground staff who despite the trials and tribulations they were forced to endure in the lead-up to this return to the track, have done a marvellous job with
HIGH SUPREMACY, LOVE TAP, and
all our Dynamic Syndications horses Richard has in his care.
Whilst we also
stand and applaud the mastery of jockey Nash Rawiller, who gives our horses the best of opportunities in every race.
Having
Nash in our team, as our
“go-to” rider when our horses have his weight, is a
huge advantage.
We thank Nash and his manager Liam Prior for their commitment to our Dynamic Syndications runners.
