STOP PRESS: 19-10-24 WEST INDIES runs 4th in 2000m Gr3 Sportsbet Classic at Caulfield

Our ALMANZOR (IRE) 2YO Colt from ANCHOVY (IRE) saw his 3yo Half-Brother WEST INDIES run 4th in 2000m Gr3 at his 3rd Race Start.

WEST INDIES returning to scale after winning over 1400m at Kembla

A $500,000 yearling, the now 3YO gelding, WEST INDIES (by FASTNET ROCK from Galileo mare ANCHOVY (IRE)) showed promise of exciting things to come next preparation, as this talented staying prospect put in a Black-Type performance to finish 4th in the Gr3 Sportsbet Classic (traditional racename: Norman Robinson) at Caulfield on Saturday 19 October.

A Winner at his second race start over 1400m, this was only WEST INDIES third career race start and all starts have been this preparation.

WEST INDIES was fourth on debut at Newcastle over 1300m on 12 September, then won a Super Maiden at Kembla over 1400m on a Heavy track on 3 October, before heading to Caulfield over 2000m and led the field up in a sit and sprint affair on a Soft 7 surface before just not quite being seasoned enough for the 2000m at his third start.

The stable acknowledged it wasn’t a traditional lead-up foundation for a Group race at ten furlongs, they would have preferred an 1800m event or at least another mile before stepping up in trip, however the horse had done so well after his second race start victory, and his data from the science lab at the stables was showing he wants to stick like chewing gum to a blanket.

So, they elected to run at Caulfield as a continuation to foundation with the view of eyeing off another black-type race over the carnival before a spell.

The Ciaron Maher stable were adamant that he promised tremendous middle-distance performances in the autumn as a 3yo and would be trained with the 2400m ATC Derby in mind, before being a potential 2400m Cup style prospect as an older horse.

However, the horse was raced by Coolmore Stud and partners and having already been gelded, they no longer wanted to keep racing the horse as they wish to only race colts as stallion prospects, so the horse was sold to a NZ based buyer on 23 October where he promises to be a standout.

Our ALMANZOR 2yo Colt as you can see on the photos in his website comparing him to his siblings, is a bigger, stronger style of individual, who is bred to aim at this style of racing and in the Ciaron Maher stable he has set tongues wagging on what he has shown to date.

On type, our colt was certainly the best looking individual the mare has thrown to date, and genetically, it is a superb A+++ mating.
