In Dynamic Deamer We Trust! Newcastle based horseman JASON DEAMER and Our Dynamic Syndications Team performed yet again as we were back in the Winner’s Stall on Wednesday at Wyong with our USA Bred - UK Import JACK DUGGAN (5yo Grey Gelding by JACK MILTON (USA) from UNBRIDLED TREASURE (USA)) who delivered a determined win under the urgings of in form jet pilot TIM CLARK.
Tim Clark had ridden JACK DUGGAN his past two runs for a good win at Gosford before a nice effort, but things went astray at Rosehill last start.
Dropping back from a Saturday Midway Bm72 to a Provincial Bm64 event at Wyong was a significant slide in class, and despite the race not panning out as the speed map predicted, Our own WILD COLONIAL BOY had too much class for his peers when winning Race 1, the Mainstream Finance Services P/L Bm 64, 2100m, carrying 58.0kgs starting $2.50 Favourite.
JACK DUGGAN defeated Youthful (58.0kgs) ($3.90) by 0.3 length with another 0.39 length back to Chappelli (56.0kgs) ($7.50) in third spot in a time of 2:09.73 Last 600m: 0:35.77
Tactically, on all the speed maps, JACK DUGGAN would lead for fun and control the race up front. However, that is not what happened after the gates crashed back, and everyone’s speed maps were thrown out the window.
JACK DUGGAN was cleanly away and rolled forward as expected, but an inexplicable rider on the $26 chance Vintage Diesel saw its rider take off to lead which was fine, as it gave us a bunny to follow, allowing Tim Clark to get our horse to settle into a rhythm. Then as the field swept out of the home straight the first time, the eventual runner-up Youthful took off 3 deep around the field ,to sit at the girth of the leader, putting JACK DUGGAN into third trailing these leaders, sitting on his own, 3 lengths off the lead.
The field stayed in their established positions until the 600m when the race was livened up.
The longshot leader stopped like a burst balloon, as Youthful swept to the front but Youthful rolled off the fence into the centre of the track, this took us unnecessarily much wider on the track costing us ground, as we were trying to improve on its outside. When it went wide, this left a gap as big as Sydney Heads which allowed Chappelli the eventual third placed horse to save several lengths when cutting the corner closer to the fence.
It became a real battle of attrition over the final 200m and whilst JACK DUGGAN always looked in control, the runner-up fought valiantly, but class prevailed, and over the last 50 metres, stride by stride Timmy and JACK extended their lead to be in front by a Neck on the line.
Importantly and beneficially, we learnt a lot from this race win, as this was the first time JACK DUGGAN was calm in the parade ring and also behind the barriers. It was the first time he hasn’t pulled in his race, and it was the first time he has been extended out to 2100m and he prevailed in a great battle despite things not going to plan.
It’s always a terrific sight to see grey horses in a tussle, and JACK DUGGAN and Youthful put on a show in a two-horse war. It was a strong win, and our Dynamic Galloper has now won three of his last 4 starts.
Well placed here sliding back down in class, the horse still needed to turn up and perform which he did.
Gavin Carmody interviewed our Trainer JASON DEAMER post-race and started by saying to Jason, “That was a real staying test there.”
Jason Deamer replied: “Yeah it sure was, Timmy rode him very well, once the other grey horse went around and gave us something to follow, he ws really good and went to sleep then and relaxed nicely. Timmy obviously just sat there and smoked his pipe, until he wanted to push the go button, and when he did JACK DUGGAN had that little dash and then the others fought back, but to his credit he was strong at the finish. It was very good, first go at 2100m and its just a good start to the day and a good start for Dynamic too.”
Gavin then said, “Dynamic are good supporters of yours.”
Jason said: “Yeah they’re huge, they have really come on board the last 4 years, and just kept on giving me better quality horses too, like this horse, when he first came to me, he didn’t have much form on the board, but they obviously thought something of him to persevere with him, and to their credit he’s come good for them.”
Gavin then said, ”You took him to Quirindi to get that confidence boosting win and he’s gone on with it.”
Jason answered: “Yeah that’s right, we thought he would go there and win but we didn’t think he would win by 9 lengths, but as you said, he’s really come ahead since that win, its given him that confidence, he was very good at Gosford, he was a bit unlucky in Sydney the other week but back to the winners stall today.”
Timmy Clark bought JACK DUGGAN back to the winners stall then had a quick debrief with Jason before heading across to be interviewed by Chantelle Buckley who asked: “Early what were you thinking?”
Timmy Clark said: “He was quiet relaxed before the race today which I was happy about, he just did too much the other day, and over raced badly, but toady he relaxed a lot better and even when Youthful went round, to find his back he switched off and it was a real test from just before the 600m to home and he really had to fight for that win and he was able to put his head out where it countered.”
Chantelle then asked, “That was his first step out to 2100m, do you think he might get out to say 2400m?”
Timmy answered: “I don’t know, it probably depends upon him a lot, his racing manners, but at the moment that’s probably as far as he wants to stretch, he was out on his feet there, that last little bit, but he’s won three out of his last four so he’s starting to put it all together, and build his confidence.
