“Little fish are sweet” and “Never cry over spilt milk” are two well-known phrases, however connections of Dynamic Syndications galloper JOHNNY DASH were left “all dressed up and nowhere to go” on Saturday when JOHNNY DASH was kept on the sideline after he was an emergency and didn’t gain a start at Rosehill in the TAB Highway, having drawn barrier 5 with Tim Clark in the saddle.
Exceptionally upbeat about his chances on the day the feeling was hollow, but the Dynamic Ownership Team only had to wait 72 hours before “DASH got the CASH” at Gunnedah on Tuesday afternoon.
JOHNNY DASH was ridden by Clayton Gallagher and carried 55.5kgs, 0.5kg over his allotted weight of 55.0kgs.
Johnny went to the barriers as a $2.10 favourite having held that price most of the day and met for strong late support to be backed into $1.80 favourite.
Our Mudgee based trainer MACK GRIFFITH who prepares a small string of horses from the private facilities of Gooree Park, has done a wonderful job with JOHNNY DASH since the horse arrived from Annabel’s stable at Warwick Farm.
A horse that wasn’t coping with the sausage factory of a big city stable, JOHNNY DASH has thrived since being able to get out of his box and into a paddock through the day and only be boxed at night.
Mack Griffith & Adam Watt
Two starts back Mack took Johnny to Dubbo for a Class 3 over 1400m and they Smashed the Track Record when winning eased down by 7.41 lengths.
Then last start at Scone, he was the best of good things beaten when the horse in front of him ridden by an inexperienced apprentice, ran him off the track allowing the leader to steal a break and the margin was too much then to run down.
A few easy days and taking his time with JOHNNY DASH, Mack had freshened him up well for this assignment and JOHNNY DASH did not let connections down.
JOHNNY DASH won Race 6, the XXXX GOLD Benchmark 74 at Gunnedah over 1300m in a slick time of 1:16. 58 with a last 600m in 35.78.
JOHNNY DASH defeated TOULON FACTOR by 0.87 length with SEDITION in third spot 2.56 lengths behind Johnny.
From the time the gates crashed back it was a competitive affair. Clayton drove JOHNNY DASH forward to control the early speed and take a forward position before the anticipated speed came into the race, as those out wide tried to cross the field.
After a furlong, Clayton took hold and allowed the leader Sparks to work to cross to the fence whilst Foreign Brother the other designated speed, drove over at the same time to sit at its girth.
This pair were full of running and set a solid tempo upfront which allowed JOHNNY DASH to sit two lengths back on the fence in third spot, in a rhythm and just waiting until the home turn.
As the field swung for home with 350m to run, it started to look very ugly for a while as we were in a tight pocket behind a yielding leader and the horse to its outside were not taking us into the race. We were strung up her for 100m until a gap developed at the 200m marker.
By this time a few runners were sweeping down the outside full of momentum and it was looking like for the second race in a row we had “missed the bus.”
However, when the gap came, Clayton drove JOHNNY DASH through the tight opening and when they saw daylight, JOHNNY DASH quickly accelerated and claimed the lead with such authority that the race was over and our Dynamic Duo had the chance to roll softly to the line.
JOB DONE.
JOHNNY DASH is a 4yo gelding by I Am Invincible ex Dashoff and has taken his Career Record to:

JOHNNY DASH working on the grass at Gooree
He is a nice bush horse and has won at Bathurst, Goulburn, Dubbo and Gunnedah.
We expect he is more than capable to win some higher-grade races next preparation.
A big thanks to Mack Griffith and his great Gooree Park Team for the tremendous job they are doing with our horses.
Had JOHNNY DASH secured a start on Saturday, we were extremely confident he would have been well in the mix at Rosehill. Still, this is a nice consolation.
