Congratulations to a Top Team of Co-Owners that own and race Winning Dynamic 3yo gelding JOHNNY DASH (I Am Invincible x Dash Off) who is trained by gun young trainer ANNABEL NEASHAM.
JOHNNY DASH getting the Cash + BOBS Bonus for his Dynamic Owners
JOHNNY DASH was facing the starter for the first time in Dynamic Syndications colours and is now a winner after our Team purchased the gelding at a recent AQUIS Dispersal Sale at the Magic Millions.
JOHNNY DASH won Race 1, the ORIANA ORANGE CG&E MAIDEN PLATE 1100m run at Bathurst on 18/10/22, an Orange meeting transferred to Bathurst due to the rain.
On a Soft 6 surface, JOHNNY DASH (56.5kgs) ($2.0 Fav) stopped the clock over 1100m in 1:04:64 which was very slick. JOHNNY DASH won by 0.91 length over The Impact (59.0kgs) ($2.90) with Hoorini (59.0kgs) ($41) back 4.49 lengths in third spot.
JOHNNY DASH had been a $300,000 yearling buy for AQUIS who gave the then 2yo Colt to Annabel to train.
He had 4 starts for a second with Annabel with earnings of $11,500.
He was a headstrong individual as a colt who was determined to do things his way displaying traits of an Alpha male.
He started his race career as an odds-on $1.65 fav on debut but failed at Ipswich on the 6th April beating 2 home in a field of 8 beaten over 7 lengths.
He next went to Doomben on a Heavy track on 23 April but didn’t beat a runner home after he refused to stretch out and try on a bog track beaten 18 lengths.
Connections lost hope but the stable didn’t. Annabel knew his problem was his temperament caused by him hyping up at the races as a colt. She believed he would be more than handy as a gelding but owned by AQUIS, they want to only race stallion prospects.
For his third start, he went to the Sunshine Coast on 22 May over 1000m on the synthetic track and was backed from $26 into $12 and just got pipped by a nose.
The stable then backed him up 5 days later, on the 27th May at the same track and distance where he started $3.70 fav, but he didn’t back-up as well as they expected, and he got beaten 3.8 lengths
Tipped out for a spell, he came back as a gelding and had three barrier trials prior to this first up run.
He had a soft time in his first trial at Hawkesbury when 7 of 8 beaten 5.16 lens but this was just used as a tick over fitness trial.
Then to Annabel’s surprise, AQUIS entered the horse in their online dispersal sale.
Being a member of the Annabel Neasham stables, ADAM WATT at Dynamic had identified the horse, as a potential buy. Having dug deep into the formlines and noting the form that had come out of some of his races he rated well. We also knew, he was sound and right of wind and limb.
He had the training fees already spent on him to get him through to having his first trial back and as a 3yo gelding he still had his career still in front of him.
Adam spoke with Annabel and she was shocked the horse had been entered and was keen to get him back to train if Dynamic wanted to buy him for her – which we did!
We had Dr Tim Roberts and Dr Greg Nash both inspect the horse for us at the saleyard.
He had been floated from Warwick Farm to the Gold Coast prior to the sale, because he was part of a large dispersal and AQUIS decided to have their horses in one central place for buyers to inspect.
With our due diligence completed, and a trainer keen to have the horse returned, Dynamic Syndications purchased the 3yo gelding JOHNNY DASH for just $45,000 + GST. Well short of his $300,000 yearling price.
We then returned JOHNNY DASH to Annabel at Warwick Farm and created a promotion to syndicate the horse to our owners. 19 of the 20 owners who jumped in are loyal owners with Dynamic Syndications and we are delighted that their horse won this event first up.
Due to wet weather, Annabel gave JOHNNY DASH another barrier trial on 23 September as just a conditioning event and it was our intention to give it another trial, being his third trial, to ensure he was a fit as he could be when we went to the spot.
Forced to trial on the synthetic due to the heavy rain, JOHNNY DASH had another quiet trial when running second beaten a pimple.
We were ready to go; it was just a matter of finding the right option.
We nominated him for a race at Orange over 1000m, a race at Gatton and a race at the Sunshine Coast. It was just a matter of weather and opposition which way we would head.
The race at Orange looked very winnable if we had a fair track surface so we accepted there and drew barrier 1. This was where we would head. Then the rain came, and Orange was out of play but the meeting was transferred to Bathurst.
This suited us better as it is closer to Bathurst than Orange, but the race was 100m longer at the Bathurst track.
We also came up with the plan, thanks to Andrew Adkins and his manager Liam Prior, that Andrew - a Sydney Saturday class rider would drive up to Bathurst for just one ride, to sit on our horse for his Dynamic Ownership Team.
Sent to the barriers a $2.00 favourite, there was heavy support for the eventual runner up but those who fell into that horse, left it with the bookies.
We were extremely confident that this was our race to win, barring any bad luck, and our ratings men had him as a very short $1.45 chance so to us, $2.00 was a luxury.
The ticks all lined up: (1) A lovely horse on type, (2) Returning a gelding, (3) Having had 3 trials he was fitter than most expected, (4) He was in a Set Weights maiden - so he only carried 56.5kgs as a 3yo against the older horses with 59.0kgs, (5) Barrier 1, (6) First use of the track, (7) True city class rider on top against the country boys, (8) Perfectly bred son of the best sire in Australia, (9) Trained by one of the best stables in Sydney, (10) Poor formlines of his peers in the race.
Our instructions to Andrew Adkins were that we wanted to use barrier 1 to advantage, and try to hold the fence but if they went hard, let them go and take a sit on the back of the leader, then angle for a run into the home turn and JD will do the rest.
JOB DONE !
With an 11 out of 10 ride by jet pilot Andrew Adkins, after the field had run 50m there was no stress from our team as we watched the race unfold as predicted.
As the gates crashed back, JOHNNY DASH was a half length slow to react from the inside draw as the two Warwick Farm trained horses Surround Step and Ostwind tried to make every post a winner. Andrew asked JOHNNY for an early effort, then relaxed as he controlled the fence perfectly, one pair back off a slick tempo.
800m Johnny Dash one pair back the rail
600m
The field spread out over a dozen lengths mid-race and Andrew just allowed our horse to keep to his rhythm, as the field passed the 400m heading into the tight home turn.
400m
Andrew angled off behind the heels of the front pair, tracking up 3-deep on the point of the turn which sling shot him to the centre of the track.
Home Turn
JOHNNY DASH hit the front at the 300m and the it was here the runner-up who had saved ground hugging the fence, made a charge along the rail.
Andrew asked JOHNNY DASH for his effort at the 200m, and our horse raced a little green, still learning his craft and was looking about. However once the urgings came on in full, JOHNNY DASH did exactly that – he dashed away full of running.
Hands & Heels
The race was over at the 100m and Andrew was afforded an easy time of it in the run to the line under hands and heels.
Easy Win
Return To Scale a Winner
The camera clicked and JOHNNY DASH had got the cash!
ANDREW ADKINS being interviewed
Upon returning to scale Andrew was interviewed on Sky Channel and said:
“He was a little fidgety in the gates, there was a little lot going on. He didn’t jump the best, but I ended up in a great spot.
“He travelled really sweet throughout, then I was able to find a bit of clean air coming around the corner, I elect to let him get into his reserve because I didn’t think he would really sprint that quick, but he surprised me a little bit, he actually let down quiet well.
“He’s got more in store for him to go on with now, he’s probably a horse that’s going to appreciate blinkers in time, but while he is here learning his racecraft, I don’t think he needs them. He’s done a pretty good job today. Thank you.”
