Congratulations to our Dynamic Rosehill Trainers RICHARD & WILLIAM FREEDMAN on the terrific horsemanship they have displayed in being able to turn around the fortunes of Dynamic JUMEIRAH BEACH (4yo g Pride of Dubai x Vormista), who has now won three (3) races from seven (7) starts and won three (3) of his past four (4) races, when successful in Race 4 at Canberra on Black Opal Sunday.
Given the visitors draw of barrier 10 of 11, he was ridden to perfection by jet pilot TIM CLARK.
JUMEIRAH BEACH carried top weight of 60.5kgs in the field of 11 starters to win the Polytrack Handicap, a Benchmark 65 over 1400m on a Soft 5 surface, running a Time of 1:23.53 Last 600m: 35.81.
JUMEIRAH BEACH (60.5kgs $4.20) defeated LOUIE’S LEGACY (58.0kgs $4.40) by 0.38 length with BON FRANKIE (59.0kgs $10) in third by 1.5 lengths.
In a very even race on paper and as confirmed in the betting ring where it was an open $4.00 the field, JUMEIRAH BEACH who is a noted go forward horse, found himself in a race that was full of quick early tempo.
It was going to require a clever ride to steer our boy over somewhere close to the fence without burning up too much petrol early and give him his chance to win under the big weight. Especially on a track that was showing it had an obvious bias towards leaders on the day.
To be fair, the track surface was unacceptable for bush meeting let alone a feature days racing.
Inexplicably they had over irrigated the surface during the week and the track didn’t dry out.
As a result, the fence was off and the surface was breaking up noticeably, dislodging dinner plate size clods as horses thundered over it. This made it near impossible for back markers and by midway through Day 1, the riders were looking out wide to try and get firm footing.
That’s why it’s vital to have top jockeys on board who can think, follow tactics and understand bias, giving our horses every opportunity to achieve racetrack success.
As the gates crashed back the field of 11 stepped away as one, but it was obvious other connections of competitors had the same race plans to be prominent on pace after the first furlong.
It was the charge of the light brigade over the first 150m when all riders wanted to be positive.
After 250m JUMEIRAH BEACH was trapped 5 deep, up on speed. After 400m when passing the 1000m marker, the field thundered towards the top turn, two runners over-racing scooted away in front.
Tim seized on that opportunity and drove across into the one/one position, getting a lovely trail off a hot tempo. Tim had to use a bit of petrol to get there but now had a lovely position and was able to let JUMEIRAH BEACH have a breather and get into a relaxed rhythm.
It was here the race was actually won.
The leaders were ripping along up front, and Tim kept on their hammer just 2 lengths off the lead. However, JUMEIRAH BEACH had put a 3-length gap on the rest of the field giving chase on this shifting ground. The runner-up Louie’s Legacy was carting the rest of the field up, with its pull in the weights, that rider got too far away from JUMEIRAH BEACH and eventually couldn’t make up the ground.
The field remained in their positions from the 800m to the 550m as the field began their swing for home.
From the 550m to the top of the straight, Tim sat quietly on JUMERIAH BEACH as the leaders who had gone out way too fast, both burst to eventually finish last and second last, were yielding back to the field. Louie’s Legacy had started to be ridden along burning vital petrol to catch us from the 500m and tried to eyeball JUMEIRAH BEACH and put us under pressure, as the field balanced for the run home.
Passing the 350m Tim pushed the ‘go button’ and our horse responded gallantly under his big weight. He dashed a length in front and passing the 150m he had safely maintained this break on the field as the swoopers were trying hard to catch us.
Passing the 100m, the margin was still established, but the big weight and early race hard work was beginning to tell as lactic acid built-up and JUMEIRAH BEACH despite being still strong, he was looking for the winning post.
Over the final 25m JUMEIRAH BEACH was running on fumes, and the 2.5kg pull in the weights for the runner-up was staring to bite.
However, JUMEIRAH BEACH and TIM CLARK were ‘poetry in motion’ and in full unison, giving and giving to fight off the challenge crossing the line with a clear margin over the runner-up who had every opportunity.
It is this result that highlights the reason we ask Richard & Will Freedman to train for Team Dynamic.
The always present our horses to the races in magnificent order, fit, well and ready to perform.
However, its their magic that was on display with this victory.
JUMEIRAH BEACH has had a few issues along the way but as he has matured, he has progressed nicely. He was second -up from a spell here, but what was concerning was he was coming into the race off a first-up inexplicable run as a beaten odds-on favourite when resuming from a spell.
Prior to going for a spell, he had won his previous two starts as an even money favourite in his maiden win at Muswellbrook, then backed that up with an odds-on Class 1 win at Mudgee.
When he resumed at Muswellbrook in a Benchmark 66 he was sent out $1.85 favourite. However, he only beat one runner home and finished 4.8 lengths away.
Post-race a vet examination found that our horse had suffered heart arrhythmia in the run and was showing significant signs of distress.
Richard & Will introduced specific horse management to help JUMEIRAH BEACH rebound from that run, and then gave him 3-weeks light work and then 2 weeks back with normal training. Our only worry for this event at Canberra would be ‘second-up’ after the first-up effort had been a challenge, and then the few easy weeks, would he be hard enough in fitness to run a strong 1400m under the big weight?
The answer was YES due to the help of a terrific TIM CLARK ride and the excellent horsemanship from our Dynamic Duo Richard and Will.
