A promising new recruit for Australia’s Leading First Crop Sire JUSTIFY
CALIFORNIAN
scored on debut on Thursday when CALIFORNIAN (2c Justify x La Pomme de Pin, by I Am Invincible) overcome significant adversity to score at Hawkesbury.
LEARNING TO FLY
Whilst the sire’s glamour daughter Learning to Fly (2f Justify x Ennis Hill, by Fastnet Rock) may not have ended her season quite as connections would have liked when losing her rider in the Golden Slipper, the sire has been quick to post his next 2yo Winner.
Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, Californian had been given a good education with two trials last year before a spell, and he had another two trials leading into his debut run at 1100m against older rivals.
Ridden by Tim Clark, CALIFORNIAN was the victim of a tardy get away and then he found himself travelling deep, 5-wide at times, and he never saw the inside fence at any stage and was then run off the track by the second horse over the final 200m causing CALIFORNIAN to finish on the outside panels as the camera flashed! He was tenacious to the line and won by a long head.
Californian was a modest $125,000 Magic Millions purchase for TFI from the Torryburn Stud draft and is the first foal of well-bred I Am Invincible mare La Pomme de Pin, who won the Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic at her second start.
She comes from the family of the former brilliant Torryburn Stud bred and raced sprinter Deploy, a multiple Group winner of over $800,000.
Californian is the second Australian winner for Triple Crown hero Justify, who has sired seven stakes-winners from his first crop in the Northern Hemisphere that are now three-year-olds.
JUSTIFY - Leading Sire
The older the JUSTIFY progeny get the better they will be.
JUSTIFY himself was unraced as a 2yo but was unbeaten as a 3yo in six starts.
JUSTIFY has a near insurmountable lead in the Australian First Crop Sires Premiership with only Harry Angel a possible danger but he is over $750,000 in arrears to JUSTIFY.
Dynamic Syndications purchased 4 yearlings by JUSTIFY last year and we backed up again in 2023 when joining forces with CIARON MAHER on a spectacular colt ex Orontes from the Magic Millions.
