It took
Team Dynamic 773 Lots to break through at the
Tattersalls Horses-In-Training Sale for 2020, but thanks to a Good group of people around us, Due Diligence, Discipline and a lot of Patience, we were rewarded with an
exceptional buy from Ireland’s Glebe House Stables of Trainer Jim Bolger.
We have been able to secure an absolute
excitement machine with the terrific racing name:
JACK DUGGAN (USA) - is this 2yo Australia’s next
“Wild Colonial Boy?”
JACK DUGGAN breaks clear to win easily on debut
JACK DUGGAN is a Winning 2YO GREY Gelding by the promising young USA based Sire
JACK MILTON (USA) from the mare
UNBRIDLED TREASURE (by Unbridled Song).
From only
3 starts:
JACK DUGGAN won his Maiden on Debut by 1¾ lengths over 7.5 furlongs (1500m) on the 7th August at
Tipperary.
TIMEFORM Ratings awarded the exciting youngster a high
87+ score for his awesome effort.

His trainer thought so much of
JACK DUGGAN that he threw him straight into
Gr2 Company for his second career race start, this time he lined up at
Leopardstown over 8 furlongs (1600m) on the 12th September. He raced without luck in this event and according to TIMEFORM definitely had excuses.
Not to be deterred, trainer Jim Bolger backed him up for a third race start, again he was sent back to
Gr2 company over 8 furlongs, this time at
The Curragh on the 26th September.
That’s his racetrack history to date.
Looking at him as an individual, he is still quite raw, and physically immature to behold which is perfect for us because when he lands in Australia, and gets onto our pastures and gets our Aussie sun on his back, he will grow and develop into a magnificent horse.
His Sire
JACK MILTON (USA) was a top-class racehorse and
JACK DUGGAN is one of his progeny from the stallion's second crop.

Dr. Michael Shepherd, a partner at Rossdales, the leading vet practice at Newmarket.
The prices have been through the roof at this year’s sale, as demand has outstripped supply despite market expectations being the opposite prior to commencement.
A quick clip of JACK DUGGAN being sold in the sale ring:
Tattersalls HIT Sale: JACK DUGGAN from Dynamic Syndications on Vimeo.
We had a shot at one lot on Day 1 but were left stranded as the underbidder when our bid of 75,000 Guineas was countered at 77,000.
On Day 2 we had 6 lots of interest but missed on the first 5 of these, and only once were we the underbidder. On the other 4 lots we had tapped out when we reached our ceiling, but saw them just keep going and going and going.
Over the next few days, we will arrange for some professional photos and videos to be taken, but as an interim, here is a video of the horse in the sale ring.
Also, we have a couple of pics from when he won his Maiden at Tipperary.
The process now is to have the horse flown to Australia. IRT will fly him out which costs 17,500 GBP or on todays exchange rate AUD 33,699.
Other costs to be budgeted for will be need to be: GST on the Australian Dollar landed value of the horse, Insurance for Transit and for Mortality for 90 Days and once arrived in Australia, there will be road Transport and Agistment costs. An itemised set of accounts will be created once we have received all supplier invoices, however as an indication, we suggest a budget amount of $7,500 per 5% Share.
A full set of documents have been created and lodged with Racing NSW.
JACK DUGGAN (USA) will be trained by Rosehill based trainer
RICHARD FREEDMAN.
If you would like to know more, Adam and Dean would be delighted to chat with you about our expectations with
JACK DUGGAN.
At this stage the horse commences quarantine in England on
18 November and
departs on 7 December arriving into Melbourne on the
8th December. He will remain in quarantine there and be released on the
22nd December where he will be transported to Bimbadeen Park just in time to spend an
Aussie Christmas.
We would love to see you in the winner’s circle with us !
So, What’s in a Name?
Every Champion has a Story:
Bred and raced by his trainer Jim Bolger, it’s
poetic that
JACK DUGGAN will shortly make his way to Australia.
Bolger is a unique figure in European racing as a major trainer who breeds most of his own horses.
Bolger said after winning on debut with his flash 2yo:
"What I was most asked when the horse won was, 'Who’s Jack Duggan?'"
Bolger explained that the name
JACK DUGGAN was inspired by the character in the
“Wild Colonial Boy” a miscellaneous Irish folk song about an Irish outlaw who causes havoc as a Bushranger in Australia and is eventually shot.
The equine
Jack Duggan has had a journey of his own, although his trainer quickly managed to tame this boy.
His sire is Jack Milton, is a son of top sire War Front, who won the Grade 1 Maker's Mark Mile on turf at Keeneland in 2015. Standing at Crestwood Farm, his first two crops have received acclaim in his homeland, but of 52 runners,
Jack Duggan was his first in Europe.
The dam, Unbridled Treasure, is a half-sister to Saiorse Abu, who was trained by Jim Bolger, and won the Gr1 Moyglare and finished third in the Gr1 Guineas for before being sold as a broodmare to Godolphin for
1,950,000gns (AUD $3.95m).
Bolger jokingly explained of
Jack Duggan, "He’s the result of exasperation.”
"I bought the mare in America many moons ago and we didn’t have much luck with her. The mare was boarding in Kentucky and when it came to covering, I must have been busy when they phoned me. They said the mare would take a cover the next week and where did I want her to go. I’d said, 'Oh I don’t know, where do you think?' So, they decided.
“I went along with it and we’re very happy with this result."
Bolger described
Jack Duggan having been "a little on the small side to start but he has done well since. We started training him only a few weeks ago and he came to hand fairly quickly.
"I thought he might take a run but he was probably a bit fitter than I thought he was - I thought he might run greener than he did, so there could be a nice bit of improvement in him."
Jockey
Rory Cleary reported the trainer
"He’s definitely a stakes horse.”
"I haven’t really thought of a target, but he’ll probably go for a Group race. He will stay well; he’ll have no problem getting a mile in a few weeks’ time."
Now, JACK DUGGAN has the opportunity to create his own history with his personal deeds in Australia.
