Dynamic Syndications 4yo mare PIGGYBACK returned to the sport after a spell facing a Heavy 10 at Warwick Farm on Wednesday. Ridden a treat by boom apprentice BRAITH KNOCK who was able to take his 2.0kg claim off PIGGYBACK’S “back”, our CIARON MAHER trained mare put in a fabulous feat, swooping from the tail, around the outside of the field.

PIGGYBACK beats stablemate LADY BOSS at Warwick Farm
She spotted the leader a big margin and reeled-in her stablemate (and race favourite) LADY BOSS to arrive when the camera flashed to snatch victory in Race 7, the TAB Handicap a Benchmark 72 over 1300m.

It’s very rewarding when our knowledge and experience combine, and a well-worked plan materialises for our owners, and the result is owners find the winner’s circle. This was the case where we saw our mudlark PIGGYBACK revel in the conditions.
It was an omen tip if nothing else, as we all know there is nothing happier than “a pig in mud,” and our mare gave her all to secure a tremendous win.

Last preparation during the Summer, PIGGYBACK was finding the firmness of the tracks an issue. Plus, off a tremendous previous preparation, she elevated to winning a Saturday race over 2000m at this same grade, but last prep during the summer, she was not 100%. We decided to abort that prep early after the 3 starts and wait for the winter hoping we found tracks with plenty of moisture.
A mare bred to run a trip, with her own Dam - WOWEE - having been a Stakes Winner out at 2500m, PIGGYBACK had only one trial in preparation to resume.
Knowing she was underdone for her preferred further distances, we elected to run over a 1300m trip to kick off where there would be faster early tempo and allow our mare to settle off speed and run-on over the final furlong.
Then with her being a Benchmark 69 mare into a Bm 72 that equalled 59.5kgs, then taking a further 2.0kg mare allowance, she was in with 57.5kgs. She was well placed in this event, especially at Warwick Farm.
The masterstroke was Adam from Dynamic being able to grab leading apprentice BRAITH KNOCK who still has his 2.0kgs claim available.
This dropped PIGGYBACK to a luxury 55.5kgs for a mare who has won at this grade over 2000m.
Then with drawing the widest barrier, this was ideal for a get back horse, because we were able to come away and find our feet without bustling to find a position.
At Warwick Farm with a one bend, you can travel 3 deep without losing ground and maintain momentum which is vital on Heavy tracks to keep horses in a rhythm.
We were obviously concerned that our stablemate LADY BOSS who was a heavily supported favourite, would be in front in the run and she had a 1.0kg pull in the weights plus race fitness, so we were concerned giving away weight and a head start on a mud heap.

"Piggyback in pre-race parade has her game face on"
However, win, lose or draw, we knew we would see PIGGYBACK strong to the line, and this would establish a terrific base foundation for further distance increases deeper into this preparation.
As the gates crashed back PIGGYBACK was well away with the leaders, but Braith dropped his hands and PIGGYBACK eased out of the early tempo battle to settle at the rear in second last spot, but 3 deep without cover. Again, this was ideal as Braith could allow our mare to go through her gears without issues.
Nothing changed until the 650m when the runner underneath wanted to push out and checked our mare, causing her to fire-up. However, Braith grabbed hold and got her to settle again to the 600m. Then they began to sneak up onto the back of the leaders as the field started to swing into the home turn.
Keeping PIGGYBACK with momentum, Braith hooked out to be the widest runner at the top of the straight, whilst LADY BOSS had stolen a 4-length break by cutting the corner and she dashed away.

From the 300m PIGGYBACK began to lengthen stride and step by step attacked the line.

Such was her finishing speed, she would not be denied and with Braith keeping her well balanced, she caught LADY BOSS in the final stride and stuck her “snout” out to claim a courageous win.

JOB DONE ! A Dynamic Team Effort.
To be able to achieve this first up gives us confidence for deeper into the preparation.
She will be certainly looking for further next time out as we build-up her stamina and muscle culture.
However, she is a tricky mare to train, as a naturally lean framed mare, she is a challenge to keep condition on, she lightens off quickly.
It was a terrific training effort by Ciaron Maher, Aussie Joh and all their team, with all the one percent's done, to have her ready to perform first up.
It was great placement to choose this event by Adam and the use of Braith was a winning move.

This win by PIGGYBACK was Dynamic Syndications 44th Race Win for the current season and it was our 934th Race Win overall.
PIGGYBACK was one of the cheaper horses we have promoted, and it proves again that horses don’t know how much you pay for them. She was sound and right and well conformed. From a Stakes Winning mare, and genetically, we were aware that the mating cross of Snitzel over Danehill Dancer is one of the rare Danehill over Danehill crosses that works.
A Magic Millions purchase, 5% shares were $4,120. PIGGYBACK has put 4 photos on the wall including 2 city wins and banked $213,150. Now after patience and educated placements, her 10 starts have earned 4 wins and 1 placing.

A Happy Braith Knock gives the thumbs-up as our well worked plan comes off
Upon returning to scale Braith Knock reported: “Very good today, positive out, began quiet well, I got into a nice 3 wide position, we travelled good, got a little bit inconvenienced and bumped and a little check at the 600m and from then on, I just put her right into the race and obviously she gets through the wet so done a good job today and a good place to kick off.”

Aussie Joh added: "Yeah, well done, she was very good. We just had a good chat (with Adam at Dynamic) and that’s why we decided to go 1300m with her. Obviously, it was a very heavy track which would suit her better. It was just a better starting point, and Braith rode her well. She was wide, she just gained some confidence, just wanted to make sure she travelled, and the further she was going the better she was travelling, and the better she was fitting in. Obviously, she had to fight late to get her head in front, but I think she has come back very well, obviously (last prep) we put her away thinking about this time of year, and she’s going very well, so hopefully she can have a good prep now. Up in trip next time, but great to come back with a win.”
