Richard & Will Freedman produced our 3yo Filly LONRIOLI in spectacular order for her resumption run from a spell over 1000m at Kembla on Tuesday and she didn’t let her Owners and Supporters down with a dominant display on a Heavy 8 surface.
LONRIOLI our 3yo Black Filly by LONHRO from ANDRIOLI won Race 5, the LOCH EAGLE CLASS 1 Handicap. Ridden by Brett Prebble, on the Heavy 8 they ran a slick time of 58.05 with the Last 600m in 34.43
LONRIOLI defeated FREE ENTERPRISE by 1.5 lengths with 0.1 length back to TEST OF FAITH in third.
LONRIOLI took her Career to: 5 starts = 2:1:0 & Prizemoney: $55,450.
Originally the race was set to be a field of 10 runners when there were 14 acceptors including 4 emergencies. Incredibly with the Track put out as a Heavy 9 and the forecast of rain during the day, there were 9 scratchings reducing the field to 5 runners.
We had the belief that our filly would handle a Heavy track based upon a couple of solid runs on soft tracks in her first preparation. However you never know for sure until you race them on it and with the prospect of a wet winter ahead, we wanted to tick off that box.
LONRIOLI has grown and matured into a tall and leggy filly with an extravagant long stride, so she needs the big tracks rather than the tight turning circuits.
At her first preparation, she was close up at Randwick on debut over 1100m, then was a runner-up over 1200m at Hawkesbury.
At her third start she won over 1300m at Goulburn, before unplaced in the Reginald Allen 1400m LR then spelled. She had trialled well twice leading into this first up run and this good foundation had her wound-up enough to get the job done in a stylish manor.
We had the speed map showing that Test Of Faith would lead the fence from barrier 1, and we didn’t want to get in a speed tussle with it, so tactically we would sit at its girth and the logical only other chance Acappella Sun from barrier 5 with an apprentice on board from barrier 5 would want to go forward but would be trapped 3 deep, working hard.
The map worked out perfectly. Lonrioli was away perfectly from gate 2 and as expected Test of Faith pushed hard to hold the fence whilst Acappella Sun worked to try and eyeball us but didn’t have the speed. From here we were very comfortable but just needed to see her stretch out on the Heavy surface.
The race didn’t change complexion until the field swung for home. Here Brett Prebble released the brakes and she dashed to the front. It was a line of three chasing. Whilst Lonrioli wasn’t 100% comfortable in the ground, she was kept balanced by Prebble and under hands and heels increased her winning margin to 1.5 lengths when the camera flashed.
