LOVE TAP (3yo g TAPIT x SMOKEY’S LOVE) made it a one act affair as a
$1.65 favourite when delivering the knockout blow to his rivals with incredible acceleration at Goulburn on Friday afternoon when claiming Race 6 the Shaun Guymer Jockey of the Year Bm58 1200m on a Heavy 9 surface.
Love Tap ran a slick 1:13.01 on the boggy surface and home in 36.91 eased down.
To put that into perspective, the only other trip over 1200m on the day was a Class 2 in the following event and they ran
1:14.29 home in 37.29.
Dynamic Duo - Christian Reith and Love Tap
Ridden by jet pilot and Dynamic Team Player Christian Reith who drove down to Goulburn for just the one ride for Team Dynamic, the race was never in doubt from the time the gates crashed back until
Love Tap crossed the line having been eased down but still recording a
4.28 length win over a competitive field.
Trained by the all-conquering
Richard and Michael Freedman Training Team and being based with
RICHARD FREEDMAN at Rosehill, the master horseman had our youngster turned out in
magnificent condition and the horse
raced right up to his looks.
Tactically the track had been racing a bit leaderish in the early races and having drawn wide with an inexperienced young horse taking on older hardened horses, we didn’t want to get back in the ruck, so Christian was asked to come out neutral, then roll forward into a handy position heading into the 800m marker.
Christian rode Love Tap a treat and after 400m was sitting in third spot one back, two deep smoking his pipe until the field swung into the straight.
Then in a blink,
Love Tap powered to the front and Christian asked our
big grey flash to find the line and he
streaked away to such a margin he was able to
coast to the post with the horse’s ears pricked
winning for fun.
Post-race Christian said
“he’s a real nice horse with loads
of potential. He did that so easy and he is so light on his feet. He
accelerated today on that heavy track as if he was on a Good 4 and there
was so much more to give."
We have our dreams for this promising son of Tapit.
We are adamant that the horse wants
2000m plus, and today’s 1200m was more like a pipe opening barrier trial for some of the better class 3yo races over the Spring Carnival.
With lofty ambitions, his main target will be the Spring Champion Stakes Gr1 2000m at Randwick.
Being a gelding there was no need to put him up in class to quickly because he’s not a stallion prospect.
He’s now raced twice for 2 wins both at 1200m in the bush and we can’t wait until we can stretch him out in trip to a more appealing 1600m next time out in provincial class before following that up with the 1800m of the Gloaming Stakes then into Spring Champion before deciding upon a trip to Melbourne.
However, he is also nominated for the Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate and the VRC Derby may also come into contention.
We are just building his confidence and building his benchmark rating, as we pick off some easy races before rising in grade.
Whatever happens, it’s always just one day at a time. We know the future belongs to those who plan for it and we are adamant the older he gets the better he will become.
With Richard Freedman’s skills polishing Love Tap into a competitive prospect for Team Dynamic,
the future looks bright, but Love Tap must keep raising the bar as he takes on better class horses’ race by race.
Christian Reith brings Love Tap back an easy winner
Richard Freedman has been training a lot of winners for Dynamic Syndications over the past 12 months and it’s appropriate that LOVE TAP was the first yearling we purchased for the gifted trainer.
