The
big mover this year in
Adelaide has been
young gun trainer MICHAEL HICKMOTT who has laid down a challenge to his established peers, whom are now scrambling to reel in the
Dynamic young Trainer in the shadows of the post.
MICHAEL HICKMOTT
It will prove to be fascinating to watch as both
Tony & Calvin McEvoy and Phillip Stokes are likely to
flood Adelaide with runners from their Victorian operations, trying to
ambush local
Murray Bridge trainer MICHAEL HICKMOTT.
Michael Hickmott has had a
break-out season and
leads the premiership having trained
38 city winners and leads by 4 wins with 27 Saturday races remaining for competition this season.
Last season, Michael trained
10 metropolitan winners to finish in
12th position on the premiership.
However, a
change in priorities from preparing horses to head to the
Asian racing scene, to
training horses to stay and
race in Adelaide, along with
moving into a new, purposely built facility, and the stability that comes with becoming a father for the first time, has focused the young trainer on
achieving success in his own state.
McEvoy has made it known in recent press interviews that he
desperately wants to win the Adelaide premiership, despite
abandoning South Australia recently to chase more
lucrative opportunities in Victoria.
This has seen the local racing fans
galvanising behind
Hickmott as he tries to fend off those chasing.
McEvoy started 6 runners last Saturday for
one win,
Michael Hickmott had 7 runners for
1 win, whilst
Phillip Stokes had 3 runners without success.
This coming weekend
McEvoy has 11 nominations, Hickmott has 9 nominations and Stokes has 5 nominations
McEvoy with 247 starters for the season sits on 34 city winners but has had
68 more runners so far than
Michael Hickmott whose had 179 runners for 38 Winners whilst
McEvoy has produced
45 more runners than Stokes who has started
202 runners for 33 Winners.
The big question is will the
tidal wave of firepower moving interstate from these chasers
prove too much or will the brilliant young horseman Michael Hickmott, who clearly has the best strike rate with
21.2% Winners:Runners over McEvoy at 13.8% and Stokes at 16.3% be able to hold off and defeat his peers?
Michael Hickmott trains for Dynamic Syndications so naturally we are
cheering loudly for Michael in his
bid to achieve his first premiership title.
It’s a numbers game and the task Michael faces is herculean - because Michael hasn't got the numbers of high price horses in his yard compared to those chasing - but if anyone can achieve it - Michael will.
The next table of statistics further highlights the wonderful deeds of MICHAEL HICKMOTT this season.
Just comparing the winners trained to the total starters, the Strike Rate percentage highlights Michael's overall success from significantly less opportunities.
With Michael Hickmott's affordable day rate, its little wonder that owners are flocking to send their horses or take shares in horses with this stable.
