The Peter Moody trained Magniloquent will attempt to make it three wins in two days for Dynamic Syndications when he lines up at Hawkesbury today. A victory would be a fitting result after what has so far been a faultless trip up to Peter Moody’s Sydney stable at Rosehill. Magniloquent has been knocking on the door for a victory this prep and can be considered extremely unlucky in both races that he has competed in.
Magniloquent will be out to break his maiden today
For his first up assignment, Magniloquent was pocketed and only saw clear running the final 100m to storm home into 4th beaten only 1.1 lengths. Despite having no luck whatsoever we were extremely happy with his return to racing over the 1416m trip at Sale. Magniloquent had only a couple of runs both over 1100m as a 2yo and the longer trip seemed to suit him perfectly. This performance told us not only that he was looking for more ground and he was clearly capable of winning races.
His second run in saw him compete at Ballarat over 1600m in miserable conditions. After jumping with the field, he settled 4th between runners despite over racing before rounding the turn four and five wide on a shifting track. Although he chased gamely in the straight, he lost momentum in a bumping duel coming round the final turn and this coupled with the fact he was still not at his fittest this early in the campaign, saw him finish three quarters of a length 2nd over the line. We were very happy with his performance however were left scratching our heads when a protest lodged by the connections of the 3rd placed horse against Magniloquent was subsequently upheld, much to the shock of punters and pundits alike. Although this put a slight dampener on the result, we were still extremely happy with the effort of our 3yo Magnus gelding and knew we were getting closer.
Magniloquent has been knocking on the door
Looking back at both races, we decided to review our plan with Magniloquent to ensure that we were giving him the best possible chance at winning. We then looked closely at the facts and figures over his last two runs in provincial Victoria and what happened in the lead up.
1. Both races he ran in had received over 50 nominations and ended up with big competitive fields of 12 horses;
2. On both occasions, he had things that went against him in running due to the large field;
3. The races didn’t pan out as we had anticipated largely due to the majority of first starters we saw in each event running about through inexperience.
4. It was becoming harder to gain entry in races with the large numbers nominated.
5. There were only a small number of races that were of the appropriate class and distance for him in the provincial Victorian circuit.
With these predicaments in mind, we quickly went to work deciding what would be the best plan of attack. To the credit of Peter Moody, he had been on the same though as us and was already devising a plan for this improving 3yo. Through Peter’s extensive research he recognised that the nominations in NSW for Magniloquent’s appropriate races did not seem as strong. After a discussion with team Dynamic, the decision was made for the son of Magnus to head up to Peter’s Rosehill based stable which have been extremely successful since operation began in January of this year.
Peter Moody and Dynamic decided to move Magniloquent to his Rosehill stable
Today at Hawkesbury, he has found what looks to be a fitting race for his first attempt at racing the Sydney way of going. He will line up in a field of nine where the exposed form looks to be fairly even and possibly not as strong as it was in his previous two races. Although Magniloquent is ultimately looking for more ground, the 1500m looks a good place to start. He gets in well with 56.5kgs under set weights and will jump from barrier 7 which should enable him to settle in a forward position.
Whatever the result from his first race in the Sydney direction, the decision was made with both the horse and owners best interest at hand.
Careful consideration was put in to devising this plan and we are very happy with decision that has been made. With every Dynamic horse, we put in hard work and perform our due diligence to give our horses every opportunity to be at their competitive best each and every start for their clients. This has certainly been the case with Magniloquent and we wish the best of luck to all our owners.
Make sure you keep an eye on the website for our plans with Magniloquent going forward. This race will give us a good indication of where we are at and enable us to set a plan for him in the coming weeks.
