Major Hiccup for Breeding Industry as Super Sire THE AUTUMN SUN to miss 2024 Season
Major Hiccup for Breeding Industry as Super Sire THE AUTUMN SUN to miss 2024 Season

Arrowfield Stud's
leading young sire
THE AUTUMN SUN
sadly will
miss
the 2024 breeding season
after sustaining a
pelvic injury
in his paddock in late March.
THE AUTUMN SUN - injured
He has been under close veterinary care and restricted to box rest at Arrowfield since that time.
A scan earlier this week revealed his injury is healing but not to the extent necessary for him to be able to serve this coming season.
The Autumn Sun
is otherwise in good health and coping well with his recuperation. Arrowfield are confident he will make a full recovery and resume stud duties in the 2025 season.
This is a massive loss to the Australian Breeding landscape for the 2024 breeding season.
The spectacular racetrack star of his generation, a
5-time Group 1 winner at two & three, The Autumn Sun
, was the best racing colt by his sire Redoute’s Choice.
THE AUTUMN SUN in full flight
Australia’s Champion 3YO Colt of 2018/19, The Autumn Sun
has made an
immediate impact as a sire
with six Group 1 performers including three first-crop Group 1 Classic winners from just 104 starters to date.
His three (3) first-crop G1 Classic winners are:
Autumn Angel
,
Coco Sun
&
Vibrant Sun
.
The
significance of this feat
is underlined by the fact that his three are
G1
Classic
Winners
and that he
leads All Australian Stallions for Group 1 winners from the 2020 foal crop.
He sits ahead of
Dundeel (2)
and
Zoustar (2).
Few stallions make the kind of
impact
that
The Autumn Sun
has made during the 2023-24 season when he sired these three first-crop 3YO Group 1 Classic winners in a
three (3) week period.
First came
Autumn Angel
who beat both the VRC Oaks G1 winner Zardozi and the New Zealand Derby G1 winner Orchestral to win the Australian Oaks G1. Autumn Angel had also won the Kewney S. G2 & Ethereal S. G3 and ended her season as her sire’s first millionaire.
The Autumn Sun then dominated the finish in the G1 Australasian Oaks when incredibly he sired the trifecta
when Vibrant Sun defeated Private Legacy & Coco Sun.
A search of stallion records reveals
there has
only been
two
(
2
) other Australasian Group 1 Classic trifectas
in the
past 40 years
, achieved by sires;
Sir Tristram
in the 1986 New Zealand Oaks and
High Chaparral
in the 2010 Australian Derby.
More G1 success was to follow for
The Autumn Sun
when
Coco Sun
went on to take out the
South Australian Derby G1
by 1.3 lengths, defeating subsequent Queensland Derby G1 winner Warmonger.
These three Group 1 Classic Race Winners head
11 stakes-performers
that
The Autumn Sun
has compiled for his resume this season. They are:
AUTUMN ANGEL
1st Australian Oaks Gr1; TAB Kewney Stakes Gr2; Ethereal Stakes Gr3;
2nd TAB Adrian Knox Stakes Gr3; Seven Rough Habit Plate Gr3; 3rd Entry Education Stutt Stakes Gr2;
VIBRANT SUN
1st Australasian Oaks Gr1; Alexandra Stakes Gr3;
COCO SUN
1st South Australian Derby Gr1; 3rd Australasian Oaks Gr1;
AUTUMN BALLET
1st Darley Silver Shadow Stks Gr2;
Tutta La Vita
2nd Vinery Stud Stakes Gr1; 3rd Darley Flight Stakes Gr1; Surround Stakes Gr1;
Tulsi
3rd New Zealand 1000 Guineas Gr1; Soliloquy Stakes Gr2;
Private Legacy
2nd Australasian Oaks Gr1;
Know Thyself
3rd Winx Guineas Gr3;
Sneaky Sunrise
2nd Taj Rossi Series Final LR;
The Autumn Belle
2nd Clare Lindop Stakes LR;
Kosgei
3rd Roderick Insurance Brokers 3YO Geelong Classic LR;
As at
25 July,
the champion son of Redoute’s Choice is holding
2nd
position
on the
Second Season Sires’ by Earnings
Premiership from 95 runners with
$6,110,729.
Also, he
leads
the Second Season Sires’ by Winners
Premiership with
45 winners
, wins (
68
), stakes winners (
4
), and stakes wins (
7
).
Overall
from
104 starters
he has sired
49 winners
of
75 race
s and over
$6.8million
He has also earned
5th
spot
in illustrious company on the
3YO Sires’ Premiership,
behind,
Zoustar, Dundeel, I Am Invincible
and
Snitzel.
The Autumn Sun’s breakthrough season
produced a
$249,000 average price
for his 25 yearlings sold at Inglis Easter & Magic Millions Gold Coast, and a top price of $650,000 for a filly ex Missybeel.
But the real fireworks came at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, where US owner John Stewart needed
$3.2 million
to secure multiple Group 1 placegetter Tutta La Vita and 2YO & 3YO Group winner Autumn Ballet was knocked down to Coolmore for
$1.6 million.
The Autumn Sun’s six Group 1 performers
from his first 100 runners encourage excitement about 2024/25, with almost all his best performers still in training, a promising group of almost-3YOs headed by stakes-placed Flemington winner Sneaky Sunrise and rising 2YOs in most of Australia’s leading stables.
The team at
Dynamic Syndications
purchased a colossal colt by
THE AUTUMN SUN
from the mare
GRAVITY ZERO
– a daughter of
More Than Ready
and our purchase was just before the sire embarked upon his awesome run of success.
To our team this colt was an
equine Adonis
and we chose to give the colt straight to our (
almost private
) trainer
Jason Deamer.
Jason
has
eleven (
11
) active boxes
in his stables in Newcastle and
10
of the 11
are filled by
Dynamic Syndications horses.
We are
thrilled with the progress our colt has made
through the breaking-in and education process and into early training where the
wraps are huge.
Shane Rose (28/6/24) has a huge opinion that this colt has an exciting future!
Our belief in the colt is now
materialising
through
his deeds and progression
under saddle.
We know we have a highly promising colt
with a
wonderful hands-on horseman
who
rides the colt
in trackwork. Therefore, we believe the
co-ownership team
will be
highly satisfied
with their anticipated success on the track as
Jason gives the colt every opportunity to flourish.
A great type
with a
super horseman
, bred to be a
star genetically
and with the
looks of an Adonis
.
Add-in
the fact that he is
great value
and with
Jason Deamer at Newcastle
, the ongoing costs are
significantly less
than in a city stable.
Dynamic Trainer - Jason Deamer
Jason Deamer
is a
valuable member of Team Dynamic
and we only want him to have young horses that represent the
"best of the best”
in his stable.
We invite you to join us racing a special colt bred at Arrowfield Stud by their Boom sire THE AUTUMN SUN.
