NORTHERN METEOR How Sad it was that he left us too Soon

Widden Stud have stood many Champion Stallions over the years, but in modern times, NORTHERN METEOR is the stallion our industry would have desired to have seen much more of his progeny. Tara Madgwick from Breednet.com wrote a story about how the sire is continuing to leave its mark despite being gone for 11 years.

He stood for only four seasons, but what a lasting legacy he is leaving.

He retired lightly raced after winning the Group 1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes and within his first crop he produced two (2) colts that would go on to become Champion Sires in ZOUSTAR and the now sadly retired from stud duties – DEEP FIELD.

ZOUSTAR and DEEP FIELD are now both looking to extend the sire dynasty through their myriad of sire sons, but it is the Daughters of NORTHERN METEOR that were making news on Saturday.

NORTHERN METEOR is the sire of the dams of two of Saturday’s stakes-winners that are headed on Group 1 paths this spring, being Buenos Noches and Charm Stone.

BUENOS NOCHES won the Gr3 ATC Show County Quality (1200m) and will look to secure an Everest start.

CHARMSTONE won the Group 3 MRC Quezette Stakes (1100m) and will head towards the Gr1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes and possibly the Gr1 Golden Rose.

NORTHERN METEOR sired 24 stakes-winners from his four crops to race, with six of these Stakes Winners winning at Gr1 level.
