The final race meeting of the 2025 year in Canberra was run on Sunday 28/12 and the final race on the programme was won by Dynamic Syndications 4yo mare NOVEMBER AIR.
Resuming from a spell, she looked in sensational condition in the pre-race parade and ran right up to those looks, proving too strong for her peers, scoring a gutsy, determined victory.
NOVEMBER AIR 4yo Brown Mare by PIERATA from CHICKALETTA won Race 8 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY & ALL THE BEST ROBERT HILLS Class 2 Hcp 1300m.
On a Good 4 surface she recorded a Time of 1:16.68 and Last 600m: 35.05.
NOVEMBER AIR is trained by Annabel & Rob Archibald and was ridden by local jockey Pierre Boudvillain.
Our duo were sent to the barriers as the $4.60 second favourite behind $2.70 Callenem Thru, and the two market leaders would fight out a thrilling race. The pair went hammer and tong the length of the Canberra straight, before the class of our mare and the polish of her trainers would emerge. NOVEMBER AIR showed true grit, putting in a determined effort and displaying a will to win.
As the gates crashed back, NOVEMBER AIR (barrier 6) was brilliantly into stride and Pierre pushed forward to contest the lead with Kotashi (barrier 1) wanting to hold the paint and favourite Callenem Thru (barrier 4) wanting to push forward trying to keep NOVEMBER AIR posted 3-deep.
These three injected a quick early tempo into the race, and Pierre realised he was going to have make a decision to push on or yield and come back to get cover.
Choosing to push the handlebars down, NOVEMBER AIR responded and dashed forward at a pace the favourite couldn’t match, and its rider pulled out of the speed battle.
From the 1000m to the 450m the race didn’t change until the point of the home turn.
Kotashi began to gas out whilst Callenem Thru who had been in our mare’s slip stream, peeled out off our heels and began to give chase.
As the field balanced for the run home, Callenem Thru moved up to eyeball NOVEMBER AIR and the titanic battle evolved.
Stride by stride, every muscle and sinew straining, our mare refused to be dominated, and she fought with tenacity. Finally at the 100m NOVEMBER AIR proved too strong.
It’s here, first up over a trip short of her best, she should have been full of lactic acid and tying-up, but the attention to detail of the Team at Annabel and Rob’s stables had our mare strong through the line.
Over the final 100m NOVEMBER AIR gained superiority and started to pull away.
As the camera flashed, NOVEMBER AIR (56.5kg) had a 0.37 length margin over Callenem Thru (55.0kg), with Brazen Crime (57.0kg) 0.88 length third.
