Coolmore Stud’s USA based operation Ashford Farm have announced they will
not be sending to Australia their
superstar Northern Hemisphere Sires AMERICAN PHAROAH (USA) and JUSTIFY (USA) this breeding season, with the official decision taken to
“rest both stallions” with a possible view to their return in 2023.
Both sires are
“white hot” in the Northern Hemisphere, so it doesn’t take much
"reading between the lines and joining the dots", for you to conclude that the Irish based powerhouse consider their US based operation’s
“breed shaping” assets “far too valuable” to be
risked shuttling to Australia this season.
However, Coolmore’s Irish based stallions Churchill, Magna Grecia, Saxon Warrior and Wootton Bassett will still be shuttle to Australia, as planned.
So, what does this message confer about their
all-American boys?
AMERICAN PHAROAH
With
American Pharoah’s oldest Australian progeny rising four-year-olds,
American Pharoah has sired
39 winners from only 93 runners down here, highlighted by
five (5) stakes performers being Stakes Winners;
Head of State, Pretty Amazing as well as this season’s exciting 2YO Stakes-Winner
Tijuana along with stakes placed
Sword Point and
Mrs America.
American Pharoah is based at
Coolmore’s Ashford Farm in Kentucky for his Northern Hemisphere seasons and has skyrocketed to
30 stakes winners including 5 Gr1 winners and 23 stakes placed to date amongst 250+ individual winners and the definite trend with his progeny is that they
get better with age and distance, much like himself.
This 2022 calendar year he has sired
10 stakes-winners worldwide already and three of those are Group 1 winners –
As Time Goes By (USA), Café Pharoah (Japan) and Above the Curve (France).
Dynamic Syndications purchased two (2) yearlings this season by the
champion First and Second Season sire American Pharoah.
We have sold out of our filly ex In Times Of War with Ciaron Maher & David Eustace
AMERICAN PHAROAH x IN TIMES OF WAR
whilst we only have a
few shares to go in our Colt ex War Heroine (by Lonhro) with Jason Deamer.

Justifying The JUSTIFY Phenomenon
It was an absolute
“No Brainer” for USA based
Ashford Farm to hang onto their
super sire Justify at their Kentucky base, rather than risking sending the
mega-multi-million-dollar stallion on another adventure to Australia.
JUSTIFY
The oldest Australian progeny for Justify are yearlings (rising two-year-olds) and many are already in work with leading trainers in preparation for the season ahead.
The undefeated champion son of Scat Daddy has made an exciting start to his stud career in the Northern Hemisphere with
seven of his eight runners being placed.
Four (4) of them are winners headed by Group 2 winning filly Statuette and Winner and Stakes-Placed runner-up Tahoma plus Churchill Downs winners Just Cindy and Prove Right.
Whilst Justafever and Just An Angel have both been runners-up on debut at Churchill Downs and Unless was placed at Leopardstown in Ireland on debut.
Few if any of the professional buyers considered Justify progeny would be
such precocious 2yo types but his deeds to date have him
sitting in second position on the Northern Hemisphere’s First Season Sires Premiership.
Dynamic Syndications went “all-in” on three magnificent Justify yearlings this year and they have our team very excited.
We have sold out of two of these yearlings,
the filly ex Pickin’ Time
the colt ex Savapinski.
We only have limited shares remaining in our fabulous filly ex Tingu (FR)
being trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.
Our JUSTIFY x TINGU (FR) Filly
Our filly is closely related to Justify’s sensational unbeaten Gr2 winning filly STATUETTE.
STATUETTE
No other first crop sire in the Northern Hemisphere is off to a better statistical start than Justify, so with the earning opportunities based upon an increased service fee and covering approximately
220+ mares next season in the USA, this outweighs the cost-verse-return Coolmore would make by shuttling the sire back to Australia and if the stallion was to become sick or injured the loss would be
catastrophic.
Business is business, but there is understandable disappointment for Australian breeders who won’t be able to send mares again, and to professional buyers who won’t be able to attain his stock in the years to come.
Just imagine the commercial worth of the Justify progeny in Australia, especially his fillies, if his first crop can emulate what is happening in the Northern Hemisphere?
Particularly with our Australian emphasis on 2yo racing!
And who might be driving away in a Red Ferrari for owning his first Gr1 winner in Australia?
On how our Dynamic Justify yearlings are – it could well be our Loyal Owners who get the keys!
