Dynamic Syndications 3yo Filly
SPACEBALLS
(Dundeel x Ludicrous Mode by Snitzel)
had shown our horse breaker
SHANE ROSE
from the time she finished breaking-in that she had ample talent and it was just a matter of letting her grow into her frame and mature between the ears to allow her Ownership Team to have a bit of fun.
Since then, the
Team at
Ciaron Maher
have been polishing the filly to get her ready for a career path on the track.
At her first preparation she had two starts. She debuted at Kembla over 1200m where she got back in the field and finished 5th beaten 2 lengths and was strong through the line.
Then she was the best of good things beaten when runner-up at Hawkesbury over 1400m, when she had the race at her mercy, she ran off the track and was very wayward the final 100m having taken fright of the infield TV screen.
Funny how things work out. That race was worth
$20,550
to the winner whilst she banked
$7,450
as the runner-up.
She was immediately spelled to let her mature and develop further. By being the runner-up as opposed to the winner,
she remained eligible for a Maiden
and when looking at the programme for her to be coming back to the sport, we identified this event being a
Super Maiden at her home track.
Ridden by
Tim Clark
,
she resumed at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in Race 2, the
2025 STUD AND STABLE STAFF AWARDS PLATE (1200m),
a
Super Maiden worth $100,000 + BOBS
with a first-prize cheque worth
$48,000 to the winner + the BOBS Bonus.
SPACEBALLS (Tim Clark) wins Race 2 at Warwick Farm
SPACEBALLS
launched a dazzling display over a trip well shot of her best when peeling of a slick
1:09.64
coming home in
33.71
and was pulling away from her peers when the camera flashed.
SPACEBALLS
(55.0kgs) ridden by
Tim Clark ($4.20)
posted a
1.37 length
easing down win over Conchiero ($3.70) with
Wal’s Me Mate
($3.10 fav) 2.52 lengths away in third.
Whilst not totally comfortable at the sprint trip, and despite still showing she was a little bit
feisty
; our filly is still learning her race manners and tractability which will continue to improve with racing experience.
SPACEBALLS
was simply in
another orbit
above her peers which was no surprise to the stable and connections as we have held this filly in high regard for some time.
As the gates clanged back, the field was away as one. Showing a good turn of foot,
SPACEBALLS
went forward to match motors with the Waterhouse Bott pair Conchiero and Supreme Statement, whilst Fleeting Spirit chose to push the handlebars down and fight for the lead.
After 100m Tim could see what was developing and allowed our filly to come back a length and tuck in behind the leaders.
Supreme Statement crossed over in front of
Spaceballs
to lob onto the paint whilst Fleeting Spirit worked across to head Supreme Statement, with Conchiero at its girth.
Tim pushed up a length and ideally found the one/one on the back of the logical danger Conchiero. From the 800m to the 400m the field had established its running order and Tim could be seen with a lap full of horse passing the 350m at the point of the swing into the straight. Tim was stalking Conchiero, and eased off its heels 3 deep as the field straightened up for the run home.
At the 300m we were 2 lengths off the leaders but were starting to wind-up down the centre of the track.
At the 150m
Spaceballs
hit the front and despite wanting to still run around like a drunken sailor, Tim Clark kept her balanced and drove her forward.
Inside the 100m
Spaceballs
dropped Conchiero and stride by stride the margin was lengthening.
Over the final 50m it was an armchair sit for Tim as the
Dynamic duo
glided to the camera under their own steam to post a dominant victory.
JOB DONE!
Returning to scale
Darren Flindell’s call over the final furlong summed it up:
“Spaceballs closing in, Spaceballs looms on the outside, Spaceballs hits the lead inside the 75 and Spaceballs pulls away to beat Conchiro.”
Sky Channels Ben Way surmised:
“The eight prevails - Spaceballs. There was a minor flat spot from about the four to the three, but from that point on, Tim Clark was able to put the handlebars down and Spaceballs has done it pretty easily in the end. $3.90 and $1.60 about our winner.”
Then fellow commentator Brad Gray added:
“She was better today. You can see down the straight, she did still get a little bit lost, she's a very much a work in progress, but 1200 metres was always going to be the punt.”
“Tim Clark rode the perfect race there. He got her to begin cleanly, found that lovely spot one out, one back, plenty of room to wind-up knowing that she'd be the one of the strongest late, and that's how it proved. I'm looking forward to following her throughout her career. Won't be the last time we see her in the winner’s stall, particularly as she gets out over more ground. But the winner is pretty smart. Spaceballs; She's on the board.”
Ben Way then interviewed
Ciaron Maher's Stable foreman
Johann Gerard-Dubord
and said:
“Fantastic performance first up from Spaceballs. Well done.”
Aussie Joh
Aussie Joh answered:
“Yeah that was very good. Obviously good prize money, it’s good. It’s a good way to start the prep. She’s always been showing plenty of talent, both runs last prep were very good, while still doing a lot of things wrong. She's a very “spicy” girl. Typical Dundeel but she would have had a good day out today and she will improve on the back of that, but it was a good win, very dominant. Obviously it was very good to get a win for Dynamic, they are very good supporters. We just wanted to find the right starting point especially at home, and now we can compare things.”
Ben Way added:
“Shanny (Chantelle Buckley) said there was still a couple of convictions in the yard, how did you see it watching in the yard? Did you feel as you watched, you still had a few things that maybe you could tinker with?”
Ausie Joh said:
“Yeah, she’s just spicy more than anything else. She's hot, but she wasn’t sweating-up, on a hot day like today, she's just got a little attitude which is not a bad thing. Going forward, we just have to manage it, work with it for the time being. But I think she will mature too. She still big baby. Yeah, that was good. And she will get plenty of confidence out of that. Thank you.”
Ben Way then said:
“Thanks very much to Aussie Joh for chatting to him, representing the Maher stable. Let's go to Tim Clark now chatting with Shanny.”
Chantelle Buckley from Sky then spoke with Tim Clark:
“
She looks like she's got a lot of upside to her when she puts it all together.”
Tim Clark answered:
“Yeah, that's right. She still definitely a work in progress, but a talented filly in that I'd say that 1200m is probably the bottom of the distance range. So, she's going to be a better filly when she steps out, but she just needs to learn to race a little bit, but the talents there for sure.”
Chantelle then said:
“It seemed a lot better than last preparation, I know you didn’t sit on her back, but you go back and watch her replays and she's all over the place.?”
Tim confirmed:
“Yeah, I think she is slowly getting there. I still think she is far from the finished product. So, to be able to win races whilst she is still learning, is always a good sign. The way she got out on the track today, she gave me a nice ride and, in the run, she was terrific, so it was a good first up win.”
Ben Way summarised the race:
“There's no shortage of ability there - no doubts, and as you can hear from the stable and hear from Tim, a work in progress but with plenty of prizemoney now in the bank. So that race was worth $100,000, it was $48,000 for first, not bad for the midweeks and Spaceballs picks up the vast majority of it there. So, a three-year-old daughter of Dundeel. She did get out to 1400 second-up last prep and by the sounds of that, they can't wait to get her out over a trip once again. That was quite well back late Spaceballs, a filly by Dundeel.”
An $80,000 Magic Millions yearling
she has continued to grow and strengthen from her yearling sale days into a lovely racehorse. Out of a Snitzel mare, she is bred on a highly effective cross for Dundeel and this filly looks to be well up to A Grade.
We have ambitious plans for our 3yo filly
who will be a far better prospect at 1600m and further, than she was ever going to be at 1200m. However, she won’t be rushed, and we will take cautious steps with her progression pathway.
