Dynamic Syndications 3yo Filly OTTILIE (b.f. Air Force Blue x Angora) demoralised her peers when
breaking her maiden in
fine style, as she
resumed from a spell at
Hawkesbury on Thursday to claim
Race 3 the
Australian Thoroughbred Breeders Club Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap over 1100m.
OTTILIE recorded a time of 1:04.86 with an all the way eased down victory.
To put this gallop into perspective, the Males division ran
1:05.69 which was
0.83 sec slower, which equates to approximately
5.2 lengths behind the effort of
OTTILIE.
Our Gai and Adrian trained filly has always shown promise, and she was resuming here, facing the starter for just her third race career start.
In her first preparation,
she raced twice for two second placings and was then sent for a spell to mature and strengthen.
She came into this event off two barrier trials. The first was an easy time when second over 740m on 17 February, and then she fronted up over a 1080m trial on 3 March which she won.
However, despite this being a more than competent field based on form, the handicapper gave her
Top Weight of 59.0kgs on a 55.0kg limit, which is a
significant burden for a light frame filly to carry, especially when spotting all her peers weight.
Add to the difficulty of the task, we are
first up from a spell, and the trip is 1100m down the
long straight at Hawkesbury. We were concerned she may have been
running on fumes the final 100m. Especially as the
rain kept tumbling and the track had been
downgraded to a Soft 7.
However,
Owners and Punters alike should never question the bone and muscle Gai and Adrian impart onto their horses.
This race was a
classic Gai and Adrian battle of attrition, where the
best horse on form took control, and gave her peers a
galloping lesson, despite blowing in the market from
$2.80 to $4.20 due to
heavy support for three other runners in betting who ultimately proved no match to our filly.
Drawing barrier 2, as the gates crashed back, the second favourite and eventual runner-up Tempestas (Barrier 3) jumped straight right and
cannoned heavily into Ottilie, which pushed our girl at a 45 degrees angle, causing
Regan Bayliss to grab hold and straighten her up so she didn’t fall.
This got our filly over-racing and she pulled her way to the lead with Tempestas sitting right on our girth, as the field settled into their positions behind the speed.
Ottilie showed she had matured during her break, as she dropped her head and went into a balanced rhythm under Regan.
That was it – race over, join the Que. From the 800m to the home turn Regan was able to control the tempo and as the field swung into the straight, Regan steered
Ottilie to the centre of the track. She had all those chasing well off the bit and struggling.
Tempestas tried to go with her, but lacked the class and at the 180m Regan pushed the
“go button” and
Ottilie instantly responded dropping those that were chasing to go on to record a soft win, posting a 1.68 length eased down margin over the favourite Tempestas ($3.60) with second favourite Why Doubt ($3.70) back in third spot 2.96 lengths away from
Ottilie.
What was interesting was the form out of the
Canberra “Lickety Split” 1000m event under set weights 10 days earlier
won by Dynamic Syndications filly I AM ME held up. Tempestas ran second there, beaten 2.8 lengths with Why Doubt 4th beaten 3.48 lengths back and 0.68 length behind Tempestas.
Whilst here in this Hawkesbury race, Tempestas had to give Why Doubt 0.5kgs and has run second by 1.68 lengths and Why Doubt runs third 1.38 lengths behind Tempestas.
All the other horses had their opportunities, however Ottilie was far too good, too strong, and had too much class for her opponents.
OTTILIE became the
12th Individual Winner from 34 Runners for her sire
AIR FORCE BLUE (by War Front) who stood one season in Australia at Coolmore Stud. He was a precocious 2yo and a Gr1 winner at 1200m and 1400m.
OTTILIE has now taken her Career Summary to 3 Starts: 1 Win, 2 Seconds and Prizemoney: $32,105
