Our Gorgeous Grey LORD PARAMOUNT went out $2.30 Favourite and
WON accordingly the first event at
Moonee Valley on Friday night’s New Year Eve’s meeting, the Ladbroke It! Maiden Plate 1000m for 3yo’s.
Dynamic LORD PARAMOUNT the only male in the race carried
58.0kgs in 38-degree heat, whilst the girls carried 56.0kgs.
He was turned out a treat by the leading stable of
CIARON MAHER RACING (Ciaron Maher and David Eustace) and raced right up to his brilliant physique suggested he should.
Sent out a firm favourite and selected as the
Racing.com “Pick of the Yard,” LORD PARAMOUNT was ridden by
Jye McNeil who gave our horse an
11 out of 10 ride, to ensure he crossed the line at the head of the field.
Whilst barrier 1 can often be an advantage, it is not always the case especially when you have a long striding horse who likes to settle and peel off slick closing sectionals.
This was the case for
LORD PARAMOUNT, who drew the one marble and despite being cleanly away, didn’t have the natural gate speed to match the leader, who crossed from deep and then dropped the pace, resulting in
LORD PARAMOUNT over racing from the 800m to the 600m.
Sitting one pair back on the fence in fourth spot, Jye used his horsemanship talents to extract our galloper off the heels of the leading pair, to get into the running line 3 deep, as the field swung past the 500m.
As they swung off the final bend,
LORD PARAMOUNT was unbalanced but full of running. At this point the second favourite named
“The Globe” (Damien Oliver) who had been tracking our horse throughout, cut the corner saving ground and then tried to push out underneath us as they straightened.
Jye was a wake-up to that tactic and pushed The Globe back into behind the leader, closing the door on a cheeky attempt by Ollie to get out. With 150m to run, Jye pushed the go-button and
LORD PARAMOUNT quickly lengthened stride to give chase and rapidly reeled-in the leader and eventual runner-up with 50m remaining.
Such was his finishing speed, Jye was able to ease down and ride under hands and heels the final few strides to maintain his winning margin.
LORD PARAMOUNT (3yo g Frosted ex Antarctic Miss) defeated MESCHEVER by 0.2 Length with THE GLOBE 1.95 lengths away in third spot.
LORD PARAMOUNT did it easy yet still recorded a slick 58.40 secs for the 1000m flyer.
It was a lucrative result for our
Loyal Team of Dynamic Owners.
There was the
$33,000 first prize cheque plus a
$10,500 Super VOBIS bonus.
This was our galloper’s third race start and his first race back from a spell where he was also gelded.
LORD PARAMOUNT now has a career record of
3 starts: 1-1-0 and $50,940 prizemoney.
LORD PARAMOUNT did his foundation work under the eye of
Jack Bruce at the
Warwick Farm stables before heading down to Victoria to their
Cranbourne facility to chase the lucrative
VOBIS bonus money.
LORD PARAMOUNT had only seen Soft and Heavy tracks in his two previous race starts and four barrier trials and whilst he showed he could handle those surfaces, he is far more effective on top of the ground and for the first time, he saw a
Good 4 surface.
Owners and connections are fully aware that he wants further than this 1000m scamper, and his long stride is looking for big roomy tracks, however when this race presented itself in the calendar, it was too rich to turn our back upon such an event.
We are confident that he has several lengths improvement to come in fitness and racecraft and we are excited about his prospects in the coming months as we target further races with VOBIS Bonuses on them.
