A very promising horse plus top trainers plus the most in-form rider in Sydney combined in Dynamic Fashion to romp home in Race 2 at Rosehill on Wednesday afternoon as the Arrowfield Stud bred PINCER (3g Redoute’s Choice x Pretty Pins) gave his peers a lesson in sustained speed and stamina.
The Gai and Adrian trained PINCER was a $160,000 Magic Millions buy for Dynamic Syndications in 2018 and has shown he could be well above average as he matures.
Purchased to be a middle-distance prospect, our 3yo took on the older horses in the Bowermans Office Furniture Set Weights Maiden over 1900m and lead from the moment the gates crashed back until the camera flashed and at no stage was he under pressure.
He was well found in the market to start as a $2.10 favourite as they jumped, and from there, the only horse you wanted to be on.
In a race on paper with no obvious pace and no go forward horse with the exception of PINCER, tactics were very simple – “Go to the front and improve your position” and leading rider Nash Rawiller did exactly that for Team Dynamic and our loyal owners who race this promising horse.
However, Nash didn’t get things all his own way as the Hawkes trained long-shot Planet Warrior proved almost uncontrollable for its rider Brenton Avdulla. As it fired up trying to attack for the lead over the first 400m, that caused Nash to slip PINCER a little bit more rein than he wanted to early to get comfortably away from the erratic Hawkes runner.
Once clear, it became a Nash Rawiller masterclass in horsemanship as Nash allowed PINCER to peel off 12.5 sec sectionals before upping the ante at the 600m, getting all those chasing off the bit and under the Set Weights, with PINCER having a 3.0kg pull off his older peers, they were never going to catch him.
In fact, the only 3yo filly in the race Shadow Girl whacked away into the runner-up spot 1.8 lengths away, a head in front of Wristband in third.
Nash advised connections he could feel PINCER was starting to tire over the last 100m, having had to burn petrol early to establish his lead but despite running low energy, was still able to have a soft time to the line to post a big margin.
It’s a fantastic result for our Dynamic Ownership Team of PINCER which is chock-full of Dynamic VIP Owners.
Special mention is reserved for ARROWFIELD STUD who bred and sold PINCER at the Magic Millions. When Dynamic Syndications purchased him as a yearling, the first to buy a share was Arrowfield, such was their belief in the product they had produced.
It certainly appears they were right in their assessment as PINCER is full of promise.
PINCER has now raced on 5 occasions for 1 Win, 2 Seconds and 2 thirds and earned $53,700 to date.
After establishing his foundations in his first two starts down the line at Goulburn, he then ran an honest 3rd at Warwick Farm and then last start was runner-up in the mid-week Sydney meeting that was transferred to Gosford. Therefore, he is a city winner and dual city placed in his past 3 runs.
We had always believed in early training he was potentially a VRC Derby candidate, however whilst he had the size, strength and undoubted ability, it was between his ears that he was taking time to mature and the VRC Derby was approaching quicker than his racecraft was developing denying us that opportunity.
So, we sidestepped that race and gave him a little more time (and a lot more education) and that has paid dividends with this handsome victory.
Whilst the ATC Derby may now be a little closer than we like, we certainly have options such as the South Australian or the Queensland Derby to consider and next preparation we will be focusing towards either of those goals.
He certainly is an exciting prospect and his future is bright.
We will watch how he rebounds out of this run before deciding whether to head to the spelling paddock or head to Brisbane with the view of aiming at the QTC Grand Prix in which he looks capable of being a major player.
