Only 30 minutes after recording our
500th Dynamic Race Win, we achieved our
501st victory as the magnificent mare
PLEASANTRIES scored at Kembla Grange.
Team Dynamic and the Brad Widdup Racing Team have been clocking up plenty of winning results over the past few months and again on Saturday, we were back in the Winner’s Circle as
PLEASANTRIES made it 2 Wins in 2 Starts after she prevailed in a tough fight to claim Race 2 the ASSETT PROFESSIONALS SERVICES 1200m Class 1 Fillies and Mares Hcp.
Having already won on debut at Hawkesbury over 1100m,
PLEASANTRIES was stepping up in distance to the 1200m and up in class, which is hard to do but she prevailed and now has 2 Wins on the board from 2 runs.
We rolled the dice with her on Wednesday morning when we decided to scratch from a race at Warwick Farm where we thought we could be a competitive hope.
However we had also nominated for Kembla Grange and when the nominations closed, we thought we were a competitive each-way hope in both.
However we weighted-up facts and figures and without knowing what would be the make-up of the Saturday race at Kembla as acceptances were not until Thursday morning, we still believed we were better placed as a winning hope at Kembla.
What we were not to know was, when the final field of acceptances were released, there was only a field of 4 runners and one of those was a dual acceptor. It scratched to run in the other race, so left a field of 3 starters.
Whilst that seemed an easy assignment, the lack of genuine tempo and tactically, how the race would unfold would become paramount.
Add in the fact that
PLEASANTRIES was only having her second race starts and had to give not only experience but also half a kilo weight to both the other competitors, whom both had good form around them, suggested it was going to be a close match-race and tactics as much as ability, would be vital to secure the win.
We believed we had the right rider to take advantage of this. We had engaged Blake Spriggs – A Gr1 winning rider, to be our pilot and there is little doubt that this assisted our team to victory.
We devised the plan to lead early and control the tempo from the front and with Pleasantries relative inexperience, the benefit of the rail to guide her around would be advantageous.
We knew that despite wanting to go forward, the Gai Waterhouse trained runner Flame Of Love, didn’t have the early natural gate speed to keep us out whilst the other runner Mollyfied trained by Gerald Ryan, liked to take a sit in the slip stream, so wouldn’t challenge.
From the moment the gates crashed back,
PLEASANTRIES jumped half a length in front and in a couple of strides was clear as Blake Spriggs worked her across to take the lead and then asked our mare to settle, which she did beautifully, whilst Flame of Love settled a length off us and Mollyfied settled a further length in third.
They ran along for a couple of furlongs like this before Flame Of Love eased out to sit at the girth of
PLEASANTRIES whilst Mollyfied was pulling and not happy with the slow tempo up front, back in third spot, tracking the leading two.
As they swung for home the pace went on early. Flame Of Love went up to eyeball
PLEASANTRIES and at the 300m had pulled half a length in front, whilst Mollyfied was on its outside. However, Blake Spriggs had been sitting patiently and then, pushed the go button.
PLEASANTRIES responded like a good horse does and pulled back that half-length and at the 200m mark, was a neck in front with Mollyfied chasing hard and Flame Of Love was still plugging away. Over the final 100m any of the three could win however, despite giving the half-kilo and doing all the leading work,
PLEASANTRIES class kicked-in and she rallied to hold off Mollyfied by a head (0.2 lens) with Flame Of Love finishing third ¾ (0.7 lens) from
PLEASANTRIES.
All runners had their chance and there were no excuses,
PLEASANTRIES was superior.
Despite the small field, the tactics and the slower early sectionals,
PLEASANTRIES ran 1:11.05, sizzling home her last 600m in 32.87 which was the second fastest last 600m of the day.
Tactically that made it near impossible to run her down and that’s how it panned out, however Gerald Ryan’s mare Mollyfied put in a huge run and in a future race where there is genuine early tempo, she will be hard to beat next time out.
Full credit goes to our Trainer BRAD WIDDUP and his Team at Platinum Park Stables at Hawkesbury. Regular rider Christian Reith and Brad had this mare ready for the assignment and Christian rode her last Saturday morning in her final hit-out before this race and was impressed with her efforts and how she had improved off her first up win.
Whilst further,
Blake Spriggs efforts in judgement of tempo and tactics was an 11 out of 10 ride.
BRAD WIDDUP was on duty at Randwick but the boys from Team Widdup were on hand at Kembla. Both Brad’s boys preferring to go to Kembla and see their Dad’s horse win for their Team Dynamic Owners – and they were right !
Also, special mention to co-owners Matrix Racing (Michael, Gail, Brad Crismale and daughter Deanne Holland) who bred and sold PLEASANTRIES to Dynamic Syndications at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale and then purchased equity back into the filly to race her with us. That always gives our Team great comfort when breeders buy into their progeny they sell and we are particularly thrilled for the Crismale family. Many will remember Michael is the immediate Past Chairman of the ATC.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Dynamic Team that races PLEASANTRIES:
