Came, Saw, Conquered.
PURE FAITH added to her
effortless last start win when going
back-to-back to score with ease yet again, this time in race 1 at Gunnedah on Thursday afternoon, the
#LOVENSW F&M Class 1 Hcp. 1400m recording a slick 1:22.85 with a last 600m at 34.65.
Third-up from a spell and stepping out to 1400m, Pure Faith relished the increase in trip from her last start win over 1200m on a Heavy track, to go up to the 1400m on a better Soft 5 surface.
She turned the race into a one act affair when jockey Ben Looker as the gates crashed back, took our Dynamic mare to the front and improved on their position, running the field along at even sectionals, before kicking off the front, going on and score with ease under hands and heels, posting a 1.77 length win over the $1.75 odds-on favourite Solar Panel with Gerwig ($21) a further 5.17 lengths further away back in third spot.
Heading to the post at succulent odds of
$3.00, in a race that mapped out on paper we would lead and comfortably control from the front, and in doing so, ensuring the favourite needed to
(a) give us 1.5kgs,
(b) would be wider on the track and
(c) be behind us in the run, it looked like we should win with ease and that’s how it panned out.
PURE FAITH was sent to trainer Brett Cavanough this preparation, after being forced for a spell when suffering from debilitating bone bruising the previous preparation.
Given time to overcome that issue and this also allowed the mare to mature, she has continued to impress her trainer in trackwork since resuming.
She went to the races for her first run with the Cavanough stables and ran well before tiring late over an unsuitable 1100m at Wyong.
Then we were starting to get a little anxious that such a magnificently bred mare with brilliant conformation, at that stage had raced 5 times for 5 duck eggs in the results column.
So, placed to advantage at her next start, ensuring her residual value would be protected as a broodmare post racing, we took her up the line to Gilgandra for a confidence building win for both the horse and her owners. Starting two’s-on (
$1.50), she sat off the leaders before jogging up on the outside and then
running away under hands and heels to score by 2.41 lengths.
With the job done and pressure off, we believed we should give her another confidence win and identified and then accepted with her at Thursday’s Moree meeting, which was subsequently transferred to Gunnedah due to the state of the track.
We were supremely confident that the mare could win again, and she didn’t let her owners and connections down.
Now her career reads
7 Starts: 2 Wins, 1200m-1400m.
Carrying 57.5kgs, jumping up in both Class and Trip,
PURE FAITH (4yo mare Pierro x Faith Hill) having now posted
2 wins on her resume has ensured
