Facing the starter at just his second career start, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained FRENZIED placed his Dynamic Owners in a heady rush of emotions, as he powered to the line to score a dominant victory in Race 1, the HMA Group 1600m Maiden Handicap at Wyong on Thursday afternoon.
FRENZIED as a Yearling at the sales
The cleverly named 3yo gelding FRENZIED (Americain x Paris Tryst) never looked in danger.
An excellently judged ride by jet pilot Rachel King with Frenzied carrying 58.0kgs, allowed an eased down 2.24 lengths victory over the $2.90 2nd favourite Lady Legend (Redoute’s Choice) (54.0kgs) with $2.70 favourite Royal Captain (Lonhro) (59.5kgs) a head back in third.
FRENZIED with Rachel King win Race 1 at Wyong Thursday 2 May
As per most Gai and Adrian trained gallopers, the plan was to jump and lead and as the gates crashed back Rachel pushed Frenzied forward however inexplicably, the Hawkes trained Georgina Gold raced erratically and took-off at a suicidal pace. So Rachel allowed that runner to disappear and rated Frenzied beautifully in second position.
At the 800m, Frenzied was slipped some leather and rapidly closed the gap on the tearaway.
Then in a lightning dash from the 600m to the 400m, Frenzied increased the tempo significantly and dashed 3 lengths in front, getting those that were chasing off the bit.
FRENZIED leads them home
As the field swung for home, Frenzied was 4 lengths in front and in no danger.
FRENZIED returns to the Winners Stall
Rachel was able to be kind in the run to the post and Frenzied rolled along under his own steam to claim the race with ease whilst those chasing were under heavy pressure to claim the minor spoils.
Rachel King
FRENZIED is bred to run all day. He is by Melbourne Cup hero AMERICAIN whilst his grand-dam is Melbourne Cup heroine LET’S ELOPE.
A particularly attractive horse, big, strong and correct, he was bred at Colleen and Kevin Bamford’s Daisy Hill Stud in Victoria. Colleen and Kevin were co-owners of Americain.
Purchased by Dynamic Syndications to be a middle distance galloper as an older horse, it was terrific to see Frenzied be so strong through the line at 1600m at only his second career start.
On debut, he ran 4th over an unsuitable 1300m and that run gave him the foundation in his legs to be an impressive winner here over a mile. However we are under no illusion that we won’t see the best of Frenzied until he is out at 2000m to 2400m or even further.
It’s exciting to see horses that are bred to stick like chewing gum to a blanket record early career success because it sets up nicely for future endeavours.
